Since some of us are uncomfortable taking the survey - What would make it better?

Posted: Dec 15, 2011

I won't take the survey because even though they say it's "confidential", I've owned websites in the past and  I can tell you that surveys are NEVER confidential ... someone *always* has your information and knows who posted what - and quite frankly I don't want my name on any "list" because I'm a single mom and need this job for now.  So, for those of us who don't want to take the survey, what would make things better for YOU at Medquist?  I was just giving this some thought a second ago.  For myself, these are the things that are desperately missing from Medquist that would help with my own personal job satisfaction.  My personal "holiday wish list", if you will.  I know these things are realistic and doable because the MTSO that I work for as a second income offers these things which is a HUGE feather in their cap over Medquist.

Bonus program - bonuses for accuracy, production, and report difficulty.  My second job has a "tiered" production bonus so that if you type between 1200-1500 lines you earn 5% of your earnings for that day in bonus.  Between 1500-1750 lines, 10% - and so on.  I have been known to stay on board and type until I reach the highest bonus which is good for me, and good for the company. They also give small % bonuses for reports that are more difficult.  I.e., OP reports earn more than H and Ps.  This is a GREAT incentive for people to up-train.  Again - good for the company, good for us.

I want one or two primary accounts and "maybe" one or two backups.  I am an "Elite Bouncer" - I bounce from account to account all day long, most days I don't type for the same account twice.  I literally have DOZENS of client profiles open on my desk top at any given time of the day and my production slows down to a crawl when every account has such widely different specs.  If I earn $60 in a day it's been a good day for me.  Some days I bottom out at $5.00 an hour.   Bouncing doesn't work for anyone - it doesn't work for the company's quality standards, it doesn't work for the facility because they don't get consistent quality and it doesn't work for me.  After a few hours of frustration all it does is cause me to log off and walk away - or log onto my secondary job and type away.  I have 2 accounts with that company and I know I produce my best possible work with them.

Work type preference.  I am extremely proficient at a certain work type.  I have heard from every other company that it's the hardest work type to get people to work because of its level of difficulty.  For some reason, I happen to love it.  I could do it all day, every day.  It's difficult and challenging and I love it.  Why not fit me to this specific work type preference and let those who hate it stick to their preference?

Lastly, PLEASE.  Flexible schedule.  I used to be a subcontractor for MQ back in the day.  I absolutely ABHOR keeping such a tight schedule.  Hate, hate, hate it.  I'm not a "schedule" type of person - I work when I feel most productive - sometimes it's mornings, sometimes it's evenings.  Let us do our thing when we can give you our "best" and trust that we're going to do our part by getting our 8 hours of work in.  Some companies are offering a 12-hour window for an 8-hour work schedule - between 12 a.m. and 12 p.m., or vice versa.  LOVE IT.  Why can't Medquist do that?

I'm a long-time MQ'er.  In fact, you are the only company I've ever worked for outside of the job I was just recently forced to take in order to avoid homelessness (literally).  I would LOVE to be able to recommend you to my friends.  I would LOVE to come to this site every day and boast that I work for Medquist and to tell everyone why you are the biggest and line-list all the things I love about you.  Truth is, I can't do that.  Right now, I HATE my job with you.  I wake up in the morning to abide by my ridiculous work schedule, and log on to accounts and work types I HATE for money that barely feeds me and my son.  I can't give you my best if I hate working for you.  You have the ability to make it better for us - but while you are ignoring us, other companies are courting us and some of them are heads and tails above you in the employee satisfaction category.

There.  That's my holiday wish list.  I hope someone who cares, reads it.

What would really help from MQ - frustrated tier 3 MT/ME

[ In Reply To ..]
My MQ Wish list, many of the things posted above are the very same thoughts I have. Incentives, not deductions from my pay, encourage me to work more and work harder, don't detract from me because I have to send a report up for QA because a dictator is having a bad day.

Another think I've long suggested, set up 2 or 3 people only per shift on a new account or an account going to SR. Let us communiate together (Lord knows why we can't know who else is working on the same account so we could help each other out). But let us get all the kinks out, send up properly edited documents to train the editor before releasing it to the general population. Let us perfect it, in other words before its torn apart and such a mess that it takes as long to edit as it does to straight type it.

Before sending out new updates, for corn's sake let an MT work on the system or with the new changes so we can tell you what does or doesn't work. Changes are sent out that make no sense or make it so we have to work harder. Why would any company do this? Just because it makes sense to a tech geek (bless them), doesn't mean it makes sense to the working populace that have to deal with these things every day.

Okay that's my additional cents!

but LOL on perfecting ASR.

Honestly, I'd prefer my ASR to make mistakes - a tiny bit more job security,

If ASR is perfect, then they will need less of us.

I'd prefer my typing back so I can earn a living. Don't worry, ASR will always make mistakes and keep your pay low.

they are not doing this survey to make our lives better - just the opposite

They dont care what will make you more productive. They want 100% TAT and they get that by making you an "Elite Bouncer." I am positive they offer that as a PERK to prospective and current accounts. They not only give the facility a client profile of their choosing, they accommodate every single doctors wants, which will NEVER be condusive to being paid on production. They force this MMOdal thing down our throats as a way to NOT PAY US FOR HEADINGS, ADT INFO, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THEY ARE TAKING AWAY, and try to tell us it is to make us more productive.

This whole survey garbage is a way to JUSTIFY another pay cut and line increase. That is all. Wait and see.

They dont care whether we love or hate them. They just want the work done the cheapest way possible and if we dont do it, India will.

I guess I'm just curious about your own wish list - anon

I hear you, and what you're saying is true. But, what would make it better for YOU? Let's just believe for a second that someone WAS listening. We all (myself included) know and have voiced a million times over all the things that are *wrong* with Medquist. But if you had the chance to ask for something YOU WANT (not us collectively - YOU as an individual) what would you ask for that would give you the job satisfaction you need? This is just a make-believe holiday wish list and it's OK to dream and ask for things we might never receive.

I think the previous poster has a very good point about communication - with my secondary job everyone is on messenger and is just a message away. When I came on board everyone thought it was *so strange* that I wasn't used to it - they couldn't believe it when I told them that I had never spoken to another MQ employee (aside from my CCM) in the entire 12 years I've worked for them. It's reeeeally nice just having someone else working on the same account just a chatbox away. Medquist's lack of communication between employees is not normal.

So if we were to hand a list to the Medquist Santa, what would be on your personal wish list?

The only thing I want for christmas from the Q - is....

Survey Company Name ? - alphamt

[ In Reply To ..]
Some reference was made to the acronym for the so-called survey company, but there is no formal mention of this. Since MQ has lots of these "subcompanies" who knows what exactly this survey is. It is asking the same literally lame questions. I keep hoping one of these CEOs will be a real person and not a corporate feeder. But irregardless, the survey is not "fair" in that it is not being done by an outside party, hence the answer to my sense of doom is here we go again. It is an insult to our intelligence, and a game they play to verify that we are willing participants. Any survey can be slanted to reflect bias. Here we go again!

Just read through the survey without answering the questions.  Waste of time!  No matter how many of us answer it and regardless of what we say, after it is all over they will tell us that MQ employees love the company.  This is just a way to try to placate us and make us think that our opinions count.  You can all take turns flogging me if I'm wrong. ...

My Take On The SURVEY.....
Dec 06, 2011

I am an MT who has been around for 14 years with this company and I have my gripes like all the rest of you.  I took the survey and stuck it to them when it mattered.  For example, when they ask if compensation encourages people to do their best, the obvious answer is "strongly disagree" right?  When they ask if compensation is clearly tied to performance....again "strongly disagree."  Whether our answers matter or not, it's our opportunity to vent our frustrations with ...

Survey Of New Pay
Feb 02, 2015

Before the new pay rule game, I made 7.5 cents (3.75 cents for editing). Then when this new pay game started, I made less at 7 cents. However, I find lately I've been actually making noticeably more money with this pay game. You just got to keep quality and pending to QC under control. In fact, I think I now make a few hundred dollars more per month, if I keep it up, keeping quality up and QC pending down. I know some of you were actually paid 8 cents (4 cents for editing), so there is ...

Why Are We Taking This?
Jun 18, 2012

What the heck is going on here? We're being bought out and paid less than the people cleaning the toilets at the "corportate" offices of the big-three companies. We're scraping by to make one-third of what we used to make. Why? Do you actually believe these companies are charging the hospitals less? We're the only ones getting paid less, and less, and less. The hospitals are getting crappy reports, something they're told can't be helped; there's no other alternat ...

Could They Be Taking Even More Pay
Mar 07, 2014

I checked my pay stubs and, granted, I still was getting production bonus 5-6 months ago, but my pay has decreased so much, like $400-500. Sometimes I wonder what all those "delays" with "uploading the lines" are. Honestly, this company has made me literally into a minimum wage worker. Thanks a lot, Nuance, you will soon get your wish and I will have to subsidize my income with food stamps at this rate. I guess that is your objective, more profits for you, spread the poverty so our taxes are ma ...

New Survey- They Can Stick It
Jul 13, 2010

Every time MQ sends out a survey they use it to justify a pay cut or cesspool or other "great" ideas.  They twist the results of the survey to fit their agenda and then say- see the MTs agree that ASR is better or they are sick of running out of work.  JMHO but I am not filling it out so they can use my answers to make my job worse than it already is. ...

Waah Nobody Wants To Take The Survey
Jul 13, 2010

Less than 10% of us have taken the long, boring, unpaid survey about your latest software tweak.  Maybe its because we're sick of giving you unpaid freebies!  Enterprise sucks.  Until you get better programmers it will always suck.  Any time we report a problem the IT desk diligently finds ways to try to blame the MT's internet provider, or any other way to pass the buck they can scrounge.  There is no point in giving feedback when nobody fixes the obvious.&nbs ...
