I went to Target to get my flu shot. I usually just pay for it myself. Turns out our Cigna insurance covers the flu shot AND the $275.00 Zostavax (for us older folks). I'm glad I can use up my PPO dollars or whatever it is before I get fired.

Of note, if you run out to get the shingles vaccine, it hurts, and my arm is still sore from 2 days ago.

Wish they had not cut down my hours so I could have insurance too. - nm

The employer decides what they need and hire or lay off accordingly, but you have the choice to accept or not.

Still in school and hunting for an employer who will hire a newbie (other than transcription).

ICs can dictate their hours, but it is hard to find accounts that will pay a rate worth your time IMO. I used to be IC, but India under cut their bid so much that I would not be able to pay for the electricity to work.

I was not given a choice to increase my hours by 4 hours and be full time or get my hours decreased and be part time.

I am only staying until I get a new job in my new career.

And, yes, one can always say no to MM's demands and leave this cesspool. I doubt the grass is greener at other MTSOs.

Currently I'm part-time, but they didn't let me switch to that for 4 years after I initially inquired and required I stay at full-time. Not a big deal for me, but yeah, MModal does determine your schedule, hours and classification based on the nebulous availability/demand of hours/work.

Whether this is done fairly can't really be determined by any of us because we aren't privy to the rationale. Same with most things in most hierarchical organizations.

insurance would cover it, but not having it done at the pharmacy. Doesn't make any sense. It's cheaper at CVS, Target, Walgreens, etc., than my doctor's office, so it would save them money. I guess it's just another loophole.

I think most insurance companies will only pay for vaccines if done in the doctor's office or on a special "vaccine day" at the clinic.

Being the OP, I just went in for the flu shot and - asked how much the

shingles vaccine was. I was fully expecting just to get the flu shot and pay for it myself, as I have for many years. They asked for my insurance card, and I gave it to them. They took forever to check it out, but gave me both shots for no charge.

I have that PPO or whatever where you get $500 every year for your insurance to use. I had around $700 left, and I suppose it came out of that.

If you don't have enough PPO dollars, then it would probably be turned down.

My internal medicine doctor does not give these vaccinations in his office.

MTSO companies. Being a long-time loyal employee/IC means nothing to most MTSO's. I've worked for the same company for around 4 years, through ups and downs, feasts and famines, and the minute it gets a little busy, they hurry up and hire more MTs.
