Moving and getting a nice new office space - And would love advice or pics

I'm so excited to be moving and actually having a large official office space rather than the glorified broom closet-sized space I've been using for a few years now, lol!

Does anyone have any decorating tips or able to post a picture of your home office setup? I'm actually going to have room for bookshelves, etc., and not have everything precariously positioned on top of a small computer table on rollers.

Anyone who would care to share ideas or even post pictures of your own home office would be greatly appreciated. I need to get inspired and motivated!

try placing your desk sideways to a nearby window. The light glare won't bother your eyes that way but a nice view and relaxing change of eye focus are a glance away. I placed a bird bath under a plum tree so I could watch from my desk, which is fun.

I paid $50 for an old mahogany desk, kneehole type, and bought some hardware on line so my husband could convert the old-fashioned center drawer to a pull-out keyboard tray behind a drop-down drawer front. This gave me a small, high-quality desk for almost nothing, and we saved the poor old thing from decrepitude. I highly recommend it for anyone who can handle a small job with a hand saw and screw driver. Nice-quality new computer desks are expensive, and lower-end ones are junk but also expensive. Plus, all these old desks come in a wide variety of sizes to fit your space. Mine's small to fit what I had, yet still has drawers on each side--try finding that these days. The computer unit sits at the back of the kneehole and is scarcely noticeable with my chair in front of it. I also had him drill a hole so I could put a charger in one of the top drawers for my cell phone.

Regarding decor, mine's a small walk-through room, but with doors (can be HIPAA-compliant when needed), so I decorate it (an ongoing project) as a little sitting room with favorite art, including grandkids' nicely framed, Persian rug from eBay filling the floor, curtains for pretty and blinds for precise light adjustment and privacy, comfy chairs for visitors off Craig's List, old cherry sideboard from a local antique shop for storage, books in the hutch, flea market lamps, throw pillows. Cats. :)

I'm starting with a new company next week. My Windows 7 PC has Office 2013 Professional. The new company's platform is only compatible with 2010 or earlier. I don't have the money to spend on 2010, so I'll either have to decline the offer or try to find a way to install 2010 cheaply. I thought I might be able to download a version for free, since it's not the newest version, but it doesn't look like I can do that. Any ideas? ...

I'm not very happy with my current company due to the loss of several benefits, cost of living pay, etc. and thought about checking out some larger companies, but after reading posts for a lot of major companies, I think I'll stay where I am. At least I have work 90% of the time and I'm paid 8 to 9 cents per line. The grass isn't always greener. :) ...

I, too, was one of the "account specific victims" at SoftScript. I was fired for a QA score of 90%. This score was from 100% account specific errors (same error over and over in four different reports). Rather than counting one formatting or specific error, they dinged me over and over, making my QA score 90.4%. I am pleased to say I have found an open door to a job opportunity that is outside of MT work. It is a job that will utilize my experience in healthcare and my medical terminology. A very nice pay increase, regular holidays off with pay, and vacation and sick time. No weekend work. My old computer's hard drive is dying quickly. I need to move all my favorites/bookmarks from the old one to the new one. I've tried import and Export and it doesn't work. I tried copying the favorites to a CD-ROM but don't know how to get them onto the new computer. I've spent all morning searching for the answer and trying to move them over to no avail. Hello, I work for a local cardiology group and we use Nuance with Dragon (EXtext). I was wondering if there is a way to have the cursor move along automatically while I have the foot pedal down so I do not have to take my right hand off the keyboard to move the cursor with the right arrow button. If there is a way that would allow me to cut down on a lot of errors I am making by having to keep moving my right hand from the arrow back to the keyboard. Thanks ...

I have run into this problem every time I have to switch to a new/different computer. In Office 2003 I save autocorrect entires with the first four initials of the docs last name containing their usual physical exam spiel or sometimes a sample of their entire report. There seems to be no limit to how many autocorrects can be saved or how long the save can be. The problem comes when trying to move them to a new computer. My employer use MedQuist’s DocQScribe software and is moving us all onto its VR. So far, what we’re seeing from the VR is almost completely garbage, but MedQuist claims that our corrections will “teach” the VR to recognize our dictators’ speech patterns.
