I started to apply for a job at Medquist, but saw right off the bat they required my Social Security number to be given. I feel uncomfortable giving out my number before I even fill out an application or take a test. It didn't appear to me to be a secure site, and I don't like that floating around in cyberspace. I wrote them back and asked if I could give my SS# after I took a test, but have received no reply. I've put in several applications recently and have taken a few tests, and no one else has asked for my Social Security number beforehand. I can see how that would be an advantage to them, weeding out certain undesirables up front, but it's risky nowadays to just send you Social Security number out freely. For those of you who work for Medquist, is that what you did?

write in "will give upon hire" or something of that sort. They do not need it for hiring unless they plan to run credit checks on every applicant (which I doubt). Unless they are total idiots they will realize the 555-55-5555 is not a real SS#. Then put in a notation somewhere on the application that you will provide you actual SS# if you are hired. In this day and age it is smart to be secure, just like HIPAA laws, etc. Should work in your favor I would think.

Must not fill out too many apps. That is a requirement in all the apps I have seen for anything. Many places do background checks on you before they even call you. Anywhere I have ever applied they want SS and Driver's license number. Been that way for many years.

You should feel uncomfortable about having anything whatsoever to do with Medquist. Giving your SS number is the least of it. Do a background check about the transcriptionists' lawsuit of several years ago before you make your choice.

I was going to apply there last year and stopped the process when I saw they wanted my ss#, but I did email them about it and got this reply.

Thank you for your interest in MedQuist. When you apply feel free to use your phone number for you social security number and just drop the last digit. As you move through the process, you can then put in your real social security number.

If they acknowledge the SS# isn't needed, why do - they even bother to include it?

If you've been to a hospital where they outsource the transcription, it's mostly likely offshored also, that means all your identification information is probably out of the country already. No laws over there for SSN.

I'm going to start ASR shortly and am wondernig about line counts. I'm required to do 150 lph of straight transcription. My CCM keeps saying not to worry about lines and that I'll be able to easily do 300 lph or more with ASR. Does this mean I now will have two different line counts to meet. Can somebody explain this to me? I know you can work up to 40 hrs weekly, but what is the required line count? I'm wanting to go to PT so I can get another PT job somewhere else, as the NJA drives my nuts. I'm currently required to get 100 lph at FTLB. Is this also my requirement if I go PT? Very shortly our accuracy requirement will be 99.6%. Since this company cares nothing about accuracy, my conclusion is two-fold: 1) As they always have, they are going to use this as a marketing tool. 2) Anyone who falls below 99.6% will have their pay docked thus reducing the company's labor costs even further and will probably result in administrative bonuses. I have been offered a position with InScribe and am really on the fence regarding accepting the position or not. I currently work for Webmedx/Nuance and positively HATE Nuance and looking to get out of there. Can any of you share with me what your LPH requirement for editing is? Our hospital just switched to Epic and they told us 225 LPH which none of us can make unless we take a hit of speed first.
