ASR lph requirement - newbie

Posted: Oct 20, 2009

I'm going to start ASR shortly and am wondernig about line counts.  I'm required to do 150 lph of straight transcription.  My CCM keeps saying not to worry about lines and that I'll be able to easily do 300 lph or more with ASR.  Does this mean I now will have two different line counts to meet.  Will I be required to do 300 lph for ASR and 150 lph for straight reports?  I'm confused on this.   Thanks

I've been doing ASR for almost 5 years now and have never done 300 lph. I can't imagine a newbie attaining that. The best I've ever done without sacrificing quality is 240. With ESLs the line count drops to less than 100 and I have over 20 years of transcription experience. They tell us that ASR will double your regular typing line rate, which is just not true. They also told us that their best MT can crank out 600 lph with ASR. That just isn't humanly possible either.

It is possible for the 600 on VR - VR lover

Just finished my first hour and 655 and 44 lines of straight. It can be done. I am not saying I keep this up 24/7 but entirely possible and I have more than 35+ years of this. It is possible. What system do you work on?

So sorry, on the wrong board - Pardon me

Oh, my, having trouble getting these boards straight.

VR lover, didn't we establish yesterday that you don't work for MQ? - Foz

Don't know what company you work for or what system, but 300 lph is not realistic here.
I said I was sorry, got the wrong board - VR

Sorry you have trouble with your VR but this was certainly just an oversight on my part.
Actually, it is. I do that here at the Q. nm - Multi-MTSO MT

*eye roll* - Not possible without large amount of templates!!
[ In Reply To ..]
Once I got up to 544, fast clear talker, as fast as the speed would go, no corrections, several reports in a row. That lasted for 1 hour. Then it was back to ESL. Has never happened since.

The only way it's calculated possible to get 600 lines is if you had the same dictators all the time that said the exact same things with no corrections and you were able to insert huge templates in. The only way. Outside of that, you are flying at 300 lph and 250 is a very good speed here at MQ on ASR. And that's if ASR is cooperating and not spitting out things like, "An event" for "Ativan."

But I'm guess the poster above is just messing with us, the one who can get 600 lines per hour but can't figure out what board they're on even after being told repeatedly.
Okay. That's more like it. - Scooby-Doo

That 600-liner must be a Stepford Wife. I wish I could feel so sunny and fresh when I can never, ever make that line count. That number hangs over my head every time I check my line count. I continually fail myself. Thanks, MQ, for saying it's possible and making us feel so sub-par.
Not so. Just love how a person's limitations means others have the same. - Multi-MTSO MT

I've been working at MQ for several years. I have one account that has some canned text but the others are just editing.

I would say most of the problem tends to be with the user. If you don't want to do it, you won't be good at it. I have some so-so accounts and some horrible accounts.

It took work on MY part, skills and attitude, to get good at it.

Heartily sorry for those who cannot make ASR work for them. However, to say it is impossible is a lie as I do it every single day. To say there is a trick or that you can only do it on so-called gravy accounts is a lie - I can do it on all of my accounts and they are NOT the gravy accounts.

Good night.

You must every sentence correct then? - Sunshine

[ In Reply To ..]
I would pass out if I just had one, just one correct sentence let alone 3 words in a row that were correct. I have been an MT for 25 years and I make minimum wage. YOU MUST HAVE A GRAVY ACCOUNT. My accounts SUCK BIG TIME! I pray just for 3 words in a row to be correct, but most of the time I am constantly correcting words. Must be nice to get GRAVY ACCOUNTS. I want YOUR ACCOUNT!!!!! I'll trade you. You can have my account and make minimum wage.
She doesn't work for MQ, that's why. - nm

You must every sentence correct then? - Sunshine - Bev
[ In Reply To ..]
To have 3 words in a row - and punctuation correct would be a great report in my ASR world at MQ! I think minimum wage is bragging when I get a run of ESL when not one word in the sentence makes any sense! I have random words and punctuation, I have to correct Emergency Room to Emergency Department, temperature 35.VII. I have worked for 8 hours and made less than $100.00. So the other woman is definitely not working at MQ.

I think you just have to do either MT or ASR at 150 lph, which can be mixed together. I'm FT with bennies and as long as I stay at 150 (and I usually have mostly ASR) no one says a word.

Hope that helped

You can do it! (see message) - Multi-MTSO MT

[ In Reply To ..]
First, no - you don't have to maintain 2 separate line counts for payroll or production standards. As long as you maintain 150 LPH on all your work, you are meeting production requirements.

Second, you CAN make the same hourly average doing ASR here as you do transcribing. It takes WORK and you have to WANT to and you must work at it but you can. Do NOT listen to any of the hum-drums here who state you can't -- I know because I DO IT EVERY DAY.

What you need to do is recognize that ASR is VERY different. I work on 3 different ASR-type platforms.

I am not going to into detail here but I am about to post on the VR/Speech Recognition board about steps to take for your best editing no matter what platform you work on.

I agree that DQSpeech here at the Q is not as good as others but you CAN do as well or better. It just takes some dedication and concentration on your part.

You can do it! - oops

So why not share with us on this board? I think a lot of the success factor has to do with the account. Don't judge us all as hum-drums. We would jump at the chance to be successful on ASR. Why hold out on us if you know something we don't? We are co-workers and should support each other.

Why are you still at MQ if you work on 3 different platforms?

Seriously, don't call us hum-drums, share your success and give us a chance to see if it works on our accounts.

My tips have been put on the VR board. (sm) - Multi-MTSO MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Why am I still at MQ if I work on 3 different platforms? Because MQ is one of my part-time positions. LOL

I'm not posting any more help or tips on the MQ board because of all the negative responses. Since I do well with VR here, I KNOW it can be done.

Wish everyone well with it.

Thank You Multi-MTSO MT!!! - newbie

300 LPH ASR?/MQ 2004 again? - Viking Lover

[ In Reply To ..]
300 LPH for ASR? I assume she made it sound like it was nothing to achieve that, huh? Wait until you get "rock mouth doctor" or "Dr. I never bothered to take English as a second languange and only know the terminology", or "Dr. I've been on shift 36 hours and want to go home and sleep so I'd better get these 26 charts done in the next 5 minutes." And let us not forget the doctor who talks so fast that he stumbles over his words. What's crazy is that if he only talked a little slower, he would not have to keep repeating himself and I'm sure he'd finish up sooner.

When I first ready your post about ASR and 300 LPH, I almost fell out of my chair. Is the person who told you that hallucinating? Perhaphs he/she got some bad mushrooms in their salad? That's gotta be the best one I've heard yet.

Unless things have changed, your LPH will stay at 150 lph for full benefits regardless of whether it is ASR or regular MT, or 100 LPH for limited benefits with both ASR and regular MT.

However, I would not be surprised to see the ASR go up to maybe 125 LPH for ASR in the future for those doing 100 right now. As it is, my lines are declining and I'm working as hard as ever. I even installed some reputable line count software as a trial offer, and will probably purchase it, and set it exactly to MQ's standards (characters per line, not counting blanks in between paragraphs, etc). Guess what? The software is showing I'm doing anywhere from 20-50 or so more lines PER REPORT than what MQ is showing.

I was driving myself crazy, wondering how I was still typing like crazy, nothing had changed, and I was doing the same amount of work and even trying to type faster, previously getting about 1,100 to 1,200 LP day, regardless of how much ASR or MT there was and now I'm lucky to make my 800. It made no sense until I downloaded the software. 2004 revisited? Only time will tell. I am just biding my time and documenting EVERYTHING - job numbers, dictation ID numbers, whether it's ASR or transcription, MQ's line count, the software's line count, etc. etc. etc. I am compiling a paper trail a mile long.

Cable/ DSL Only Requirement

It is very annoying to see so many companies with a DSL or cable only requirement to apply for a position with them.  I use a fixed wireless connection with Doc-Q-Scribe and with ChartNet with absolutely no problems at alll.  In fact, I am consistently one of the top...or THE top producer of lines every month and I am up against MTs who mostly have cable and DSL.  That cable and DSL only policy is keeping some excellent MTs from applying for positions.  Many of these compan ...

Accuracy Requirement
Mar 09, 2013

Very shortly our accuracy requirement will be 99.6%.  Since this company cares nothing about accuracy, my conclusion is two-fold:  1) As they always have, they are going to use this as a marketing tool.  2) Anyone who falls below 99.6% will have their pay docked thus reducing the company's labor costs even further and will probably result in administrative bonuses.  For new employees - welcome to MM.  For everyone else - get out if you can.  ...

I have been offered a position with InScribe and am really on the fence regarding accepting the position or not.  I currently work for Webmedx/Nuance and positively HATE Nuance and looking to get out of there.  The presentation for InScribe says they require all their MTs to maintain a 99.5 score or better and you are only allowed 1 time a year to fall below 99.5.  This scares me to death to be honest.  I am a good transcriptionist and consistently have reports through FIESA ...
