MM - Corporate/American Greed - ea

Posted: Oct 17, 2013

All that matters to companies nowadays is how much money they can make for their stockholders and for their yearly bonuses.  They dont care about the American worker anymore.  In India, when they want to fire you, they have to take into account the family you are taking care of, will you be able to get another job.  America?  They will throw you out on the street without a notice and not give a darn.

In my town, the main hospital wants to let Chinese women come over to America to have their babies and their babies will be American born citizens.  The hospital will get anywhere from 30 thousand and up for each Chinese lady to give birth and that is the point.  You can get anything in America if you have the money.  America can be bought for the right price and that is shockiing.  Selling out American citizenship for the right amount of money.  What happens in 18-20 years when the Chinese children are born, they come back to America and get into the best colleges, get on Social Security, welfare and so many other American programs.  Sad thing is our mayor and the head of the hospital board, a doctor, is all for the program.

I am so glad my working life is almost over..not that I want to rush the years..but I am on early retirement right now and I have a disability claim in with Social Security Administration due to a few diseases I have had since a teenager which have gotten worse and 2 newly diagnosed diseases.  I feel sorry for the American worker who still has years to go to have to deal with this type of work climate.

ea - just read your post and there are a few things you might want to check on - anon

I read the part where you mentioned you are receiving early SS and have applied for disability. I hate to tell you this, but more than likely, your claim for disability will be denied as you cannot have both SS and disability. It has to be one or the other. I have also just recently applied for SSDI due to finding out that I had a condition present since my birth that unfortunately gives me little to no options for obtaining employment outside of medical transcription.

Early retirement and disability - ea

I spoke with SS Administration and told them I took early retirement but now my 2 new diseases make it impossible to work at all in the future. She said what they do is review my case and if I am approved, they would switch my early retirement to disability until I turn 66, my full retirement age, then I would be put on full retirement. This is because I was planning on working PT while receiving early retirement, which SS already knew about, but with the new circumstances, it will be impossible to work even PT in the near future. She also told me usually you are denied the first time and then I should consult an attorney. I already consulted an attorney and he basically said the same thing, they would switch my early retirement to disability and then back to full retirement at 66.

ea - my situation -- sorrry but rather long - nn

I was born with "slight" cerebral palsy. About 2 years ago, before even filing online with SS for disability, I consulted with an attorney, told him of my situation and he stated he would take my case. At that time, I was living in the Miami area, and this attorney scheduled me to see a neurologist in the Miami area. This doctor did NOTHING in terms of an exam except made me walk in the exam room, do some reflex testing and if I remember right, finger-to-nose testing. About a month or so later, I was informed by the attorney's office that they would not take me on as a client.

This past June, because of losing my job and having difficulty being able to use the keyboard for VR, I came back to my home state in the Midwest. My family wanted me to get into "disabled housing," but as I tried to explain to them, it wasn't a matter of just walking into the office of the housing complex with a limp, but that I had to go through the proper channels.

In June, I went to the SS website and started reading up on disability and cerebral palsy and called an attorney because of the fact that it mentioned wearing braces, etc., and my condition was not quite that severe. At the time that I called him, I had just undergone a routine eye exam and found out that I was losing the peripheral vision in my right eye, which the eye doctor felt was due to "trauma," and not due to macular degeneration or glaucoma, which I also explained to the attorney and told him that I had an appointment scheduled to see a neurologist with regard to this problem. He told me that I should definitely go ahead and file.

About a week or so after that conversation, I saw a local neurologist, who scheduled an MRI for me and the results of the MRI showed that I had been born with one-third of my brain missing, as well as having suffered several small strokes, that nothing could be done to correct the problem and that with time, it would only get worse. He also encouraged me to file (which I had) and he said he would help me out in any way he could.

I received further paperwork regarding my income, etc., that I had to fill out and return by a certain date and unfortunately, I got the paperwork into them late, due to be hospitalized for almost a week on an emergency basis; however, when I contacted SS, I was told to go ahead and send the paperwork in any way.

About a week after that (first week of September or so), I received a denial letter, which had been sent to my old address in FL (SS had used the previous information from the "attorney" being involved). I had a telephone interview on September 19th and they told me that a decision would be reached in approximately 120 days.

My cousin, who just turned 63, applied for disability about 7-8 years ago, and was "immediately" approved; however, he went into the SS office in person. He has now switched from diability to regular early SS.

I know one of the things that I have wondered about is the fact that if you are closer to "retirement age," (I just turned 58 last week), if SS takes that into consideration as far as reaching a decision more quickly. I have not heard of them wanting me to see another physician, although it hasn't been quite a month since the second telephone interview after my initial denial. It has been a bear, and while I have been applying for work, have not heard anything back with the places that I have applied to. Because of the spasticity I have on my right side, it is extremely hard for me to use the keyboard to do VR and I have a better time with straight typing. I could probably look on the "outside" for a position; but again, that would entail a professional wardrobe and a lot of walking and standing, which I really can no longer do comfortably. I am really sending up a lot of prayers that things will be resolved quickly and that I can stop stressing as much as I am right now. With no income or savings whatsoever, it has been extremely difficult and thank heavens, I have a couple of wonderful friends whom have helped me out with housing and small amounts of money to get me through the month.

I think with you already being in the system with receiving SS, it would just be a matter of transferring you from one to another, but I know when I checked on my earnings through SS, I would actually get more with disability than I would if I were to take early SS.

Good luck!

Yes, they do take into consideration the closer you are to retirement age, the easier they will pass you, the attorney told me.

I know someone who was denied 3 times but kept trying and was passed on the 4th try. So keep trying. I know I am going to as there is no way I am going to be able to work much longer. I have gotten my records from my different doctors and got the paperwork to fill out from SS, or do it online, and my appt is 10/25. Good luck to you also and do not give up the fight.

A prime example of that is when I work every holiday for time and 1/2, but low and behold, there is mysteriously no work in the system.  Because they press a button and send it all overseas for some poor sap to do for 5 cents a day, instead of paying me time and 1/2.  There is no appreciation for the MT and our expertise anymore.  Used to at least get an Xmas card, not even that anymore.... :(   Save Yourself! ...

Afro-American Versus African-American

Afro pertains to a "hair style" usually worn by black people or African-Americans. African-American refers to a group or nationality of people whose decendants originated in Africa. Has anyone ever been corrected on that when getting audited? Just curious. I see this a lot. P.S. Not trying to stir the pot or offend anyone so please, no racial slurs or offensive posts. This is a ligitmate question. How do you type it? or do you think it matters? ...

Greed In The MT Business
May 04, 2010

I believe greed has taken over the transcription industry.  If the client is charged so much per line, does he only have to pay half for voice recognition?  I doubt it.  The voice recognition should have been a tool for the transcriptionist to be able to produce a lot more lines . . . instead I believe it is so the higher ups can line their pockets with gold and stomp on the MLS.  Transcend is now sooooo greedy they are sending almost half of the work overseas at night.  ...

Corporate E-mail About New CCM

Just received e-mail from corporate stating that as they had previously stated they would be rearranging management, ccm's, etc.  It went on to state that if you had been reassigned to a new CCM they would be contacting you in the future, but Thank GOD at the bottom it lists who your CCM will be and I am lucky enough to have the same CCM who I love and has always been good to me.   Today is my lucky day.  So glad she is not one of the ones to go. ...
