Lost for words when I saw - Underpaid and Unappreciated
Posted: Oct 30, 2012
a report done by an MT that has been with the company since 1994 and spelled lichen planus with a K, e.g.,"liken planus." Not a good sign.
Damn ASR - how did it make it through spellcheck?
[ In Reply To ..]
I totally blame ASR. It tricks your brain into seeing what you hear. If this were a straight typing job, that MT would not have typed that.
Just curious, how do you know how long - the MT has been with co?
hey, if its good enough for MModal, its good enough for me - they get what they pay for

If the client isnt happy, take it up with MModal... Its their spellcheck!
Besides, how the heck do you know all this? If you are my supervisor, get to work and stop talking about the empolyees like this! Make a suggestion to MModal to cut the pay of upper management and provide better spellcheck and raises if they want better quality. Oh wait, you dont want better quality, you have INDIA!

I am not a suit. I had to refer to other reports because the idiot doctor I was transcribing for could not speak English. Ever had that problem?
You are an embarrassment to the MT profession - with this attitude.

This is directed to the post that I replied to, not the post from Underpaid and underappreciated. I have no idea why she is being so brutalized by the people on this board.
Thanks - Underpaid and Unappreciated

I guess there are a lot of cranky, ill-minded people on here. I make mistakes too, but I own up to them instead of complaining about being picked on. I guess my first mistake was commenting on this board of whiners.

Hey, you said it SISTAH! Bunch of whinning, angry, sad little people .... I read these for entertainment, certainly not factual in any universe! Take Care!
I agree with your point, but "liken" is a word. - Spellcheck would not have caught it.
[ In Reply To ..]
Listen we all make mistakes like that. I cringe when I have to go back and look at an old report of mine, because I might see something like that. And it got past spellcheck because liken is a word.
If she is working in cornerstone that info is - readily available when looking up reports. NM.
See the MTs info in the system - mt looking for a new job

You can do a search on MTs in the system and I know I can see my own information and when I was hired, etc. But maybe she personally knows the MT.

Hey, we have all done dumb things-we sometimes get in "the zone". I am guilty too. That is why reading your work every few sentences is a good thing. I had a friend who had been transcribing MANY years- for below-knee amputation she typed bologna amputation. She couldnt believe it when it was pointed out to her-she must have been hungry or again, just typing what she heard not thinking!!!
Absolutely agree. No one is perfect. - gamt

We have all typed something wrong or silly in our lifetime, no matter how long you have been transcribing. We are only human. Try not to take other peoples' mistakes anymore serious than your own. That is the way I try to keep my head on straight.
Not to mention ... - anon

Can you imagine what handwritten notes by doctors and nurses, etc., look like? Not only now, but particularly back when much more was handwritten. That's probably why doctor's handwriting was so back - to hide mistakes and so they could claim it really was what they intended to write.
Why lost for words? It is obviously a typo, not a reflection of her skill level. NM - anon
I had a report from an MT working since way before - 1994 and she put

0P instead of Zero-P for instrument. I guess quality just doesn't matter anymore. Morale pretty low these days. You just guess and keep typing.
Couldn't resist, but... - MT Gone

it's supposed to be "WHO has been," not "THAT has been." Oh, please don't flame me, I just couldnt pass the temptation up!!! Maybe the MT who typed the report is just plain fed up and MM is getting what they pay for?
I need advice. I have just recently gone from employee (for over 35 years) to independent contractor. This has probably been asked or discussed before, but I never paid any attention to the discussions as it never pertained to me; now I wish I had read the posts. I feel lost here. I was hired in the usual manner, and told what my line rate would be. I understand the part about no taxes taken out, no benefits, etc. I was also told what hours/days they need ...
I trained for 5 days and was called today and told I was terminated. No explanation but their instructions on page breaks sucked and I had off and on problems with them. They sent a video to watch and and would not play on my computer and I told them about it. All they did was send it to me again and still didn't work. These companies are all about greed and do not want to take time to really train someone who really wants to learn their job. ...
I just received an email that was addressed to us ladies stating that as of Friday this week, we are not needed anymore because all doctors in a certain place are switching to EMR. It was a whole city. This is the first I have heard of this, that is, all their accounts in this city are switching. God Help us All ...
After 14 years of transcribing for a medical practice, suddenly, without notice, I was "dumped." My client implimented the required EHR mandated by President Obama. I guess I was somewhat naive in not seeing this coming, but I assumed transcribed documents by a "real person" would still be wanted by my client. Now I find myself at age 57 without work. My next step is to inquire about verbatim transcription, but the idea of not correcting improper grammar and using "yeah" ...
Last week I was told that the account I was working on went to EMR and they do not need any of the MTs on that account anymore. :( I have been sending out my resume but no bites. I have 12 years of MT experience. Where are the jobs? ...
I was doing something on the internet in Explorer and I did something that made my toolbar at the bottom go away. Can anyone help me get it back? Thanks in advance. ...
Just heard today my local town's clinic will be going to EMR in September so those MTs will be losing their job (we are only 2000 people but the clinic is going EMR), another town 125 from me with about 100 MTs have just lost their jobs and a bigger town from there has lost about 100 MTs because of EMR. These are rural America and not big hospitals by any means compared to some of the bigger cities in the country. This is just not right and so, so, so sad.
I also jus ...
From an article written 2 days ago regarding MQ's settlement of a lawsuit filed by Kaiser against Medquist (which MQ settled for 2 million, by the way):
The company reported net revenues for the three months ended June 30, 2010 as increasing $20.1 million or 25.9 percent to $97.5 million compared to $77.5 million for the three months ended June 30, 2009. ...
This lost accounts business is b.s. They have been pushing overtime in QA for a long time because they needed people and now they have the nerve to lay people off. Nice way to do business. I actually feel sorry for the workers left there with all of that work. They are going to drill those employees into the ground with work. ...
Has anyone else lost their job with MxSecure because of the independent contractor going to employee only status. I was informed that they are not hiring in my state and several others, but they would let me know if they decided to later. Any information? ...
My normally caught-up to NJA area has been frequently going out of TAT this last week with an outrageous amount of work, even after losing a huge account to the ILPs. I suspect these new expectations have caused many to quit, obviously. ...
Hospital I work for just switched over to Epic. I was informed this week that I will be laid off as a coder - I am no longer needed. Instead, they will hire coders as data analysts, document improvement specialists and managers. But, in order to get these jobs I need a degree. I do not have a degree, just my CCS as well sa my CPC. I feel like crying and giving up on this career. First as a laid of MT to a laid off coder. I don't want to be in this b ...
Well it was bound to happen. Our doctors have gone with VR 360 and we have about a month to "get out" basically. Yep us five ladies have been evicted. Some have been there 20+ years. It was only a matter of time I guess. Get this..the department head started the meeting with a prayer (probably praying we wouldn't kick his butt) and then at the end they handed us employee assistance brochures for counseling services. HA! I guess I should be happy they gave a notice but it was like "wel ...
Well, It is now finally official. Just got my termination letter through an Email today from K&R Consulting due to loss of contracts. I would really like to express what I feel but it would not do any good. They had already let some go and at least I got to work for a few weeks longer. ...
It is quite a shock the first pay check? I have always made it - lost the QA one but that one always seemed to be half tax anyway, so did not mind so much, but now that will be $100 (typically was my production bonus) less for me a week and also no incentive whatsoever to type more per line OR any more at all.
I am certainly NOT going to spend 3 months trying desperately to get "back on top" and get the production bonus again. It just seems so arbitrary, and the errors have been ramped up, both ...
I can't believe I got a letter in the mail today stating that they've cut off my health care benefits because my hours have been cut. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I work the same number of hours every week and have since Nuance took over. On paper they have me down for 29 hours and I work 32. All of a sudden I'm not working enough hours and now being told to get COBRA!!!! This is the absolute last straw! ...
Did work from health system with numerous sites in the south get sent to India or did they dump MM? Either way, how will there be enough work for those of us left dangling in the wind here? ...
Just heard that we lost one of our biggest accounts because of TAT. I'm sure this means no more overtime, probably will be running out of work a lot too. Too bad 'cause I loved all the overtime. ...
Hi everyone:) Hope some of you can help me out. I am new to the company, and boy am I confused. I have repeatedly asked for some things to help me out, but I rarely hear from my TSM, and I feel I am being avoided. I am totalliy worn out, the dictators are horrible! I have so many blanks in some of the reports, I feel like I am doing a horrible job, and I have a lot of experience. No feedback at all. ...
I just recently started with a company that I am overall happy with, but they seem to have a lot of errors with their computer program and we lose reports. My concern is that we get absolutely no compensation for these lost reports and are just basically told "so sorry; it doesn't happen often." I just typed a 3 page report that was just lost and have been on the phone on hold with the Help Desk for 30 minutes and for this almost hour I will not be compensated. My old comp ...
We lost our account because an MT had a disagreement about how long she was put on QA for. She decided to quit and demanded all money be paid right then. When she was told that she would be paid for that pay period when payment was originally due she wouldn't have it and went to the main company worked was subbed from, started a big mess and to make a long story short, nobody has a job now cause we lost the account. Why does 1 MT have to ruin things for everyone. I r ...
How do I save my expansions so they will not be lost. I have some save on a thing I bought at Wal-Mart, but back in the days when 1-800 Dictate was a real help, they saved it for me. I do not remember how to do it. TIA. ...
Regarding the English slang for Management being termed as a "SUIT." On a forum/bbs/chat board it is not uncommon to find shortened variations of words in slang terminology being used. There seems to be 2 classifications of work force/individuals on this forum and one would NOT need a certification in education to realize them to be Production and Management classifications.
The general consensus of "Production Workers" seems to have been approp ...
There is rumor that Transcend has lost a huge account and I see someone further down on the board figures this to be true since she now has work in this account, only she is working for a different MTSO. Anyone care to elaborate? I say this is only the beginning for them, the way they push and shove until TAT is down to about 3 minutes. You only get what you pay for in this industry. Plus you also get what you have coming, after the way Transcend treats their MTs. ...
