Feeling lost and alone - Exhausted MT

Posted: Apr 29, 2015

Hi everyone:) Hope some of you can help me out.  I am new to the company, and boy am I confused.  I have repeatedly asked for some things to help me out, but I rarely hear from my TSM, and I feel I am being avoided.  I am totalliy worn out, the dictators are horrible!  I have so many blanks in some of the reports, I feel like I am doing a horrible job, and I have a lot of experience.  No feedback at all.

don't know if I can help... - mmbop

Can you tell us what kinds of things you have questions about? If it's something more general and not account-specific, we might know. Have you phoned or Spark-messaged your TSM (rather than emailing)? Otherwise, make as much use of the written teaching materials they provide as you can, before asking your TSM, because it was fairly thorough. When I started, I had to spend a TON of time studying the instructions about how to use my typing platform, along with things like the AI account rules. I wrote up a personalized set of summary notes and reminders to help myself, which took awhile but was worth it. But I also had a helpful TSM. That was 7 years ago. But if it's important and your TSM really won't respond, I'd talk to your regional manager.

dont know specifically what you need - but

What works for me is looking in history at those docs previous reports, looking at other people's templates that might be out there - pop a template into the job then cut & paste to notepad for future reference and revise it to "your way" as you learn. After you finish a difficult job, copy it to notepad even with those blanks (I put s/l blah blah, what it sounded like at the blank) - eventually you will fill in those blanks. I keep all my own templates on word pad, N system too slow!

Any and everything I find on google like devices, catheters, classification and grading systems, etc, I also keep lists of on notepad, a folder for each specialty cardio, onco, etc. I try to make sure I find the ones with TM or R symbols to be certain. I add to these daily, only takes a sec to copy & paste.

Hope this helps! :)

copy and paste not allowed - did you take HIPPA?

[ In Reply To ..]
Also in employee handbook. NO copy/paste allowed. Ever.

No, I did not take HIPPA - but I did take HIPAA

[ In Reply To ..]
and I read emails from TSM that tell me to cut & paste to notepad then cut & paste from there! Just had another one the other day. Where cut & paste is not allowed, it won't let you copy anyway.
You know you are right - if there is a tech problem
[ In Reply To ..]
Going on, they suggest you copy and paste to wordpad so if you lose the report you can paste it in. It's a whole lot of hogwash that you can't copy and paste.

Honestly. She is talking about - normals and they ARE allowed

[ In Reply To ..]
That is a pretty darned stupid rule anyway. It is just to cover their butts. What is a normal if not a copy and paste?

They just don't want anyone to ever figure out a way to go fast enough to do a decent line count is all. It's all about cutting down our profit and maximizing theirs.

Again, I see very little patient safety in not allowing cut and paste, simply covering their butts for HIPAA and cutting our line counts, but I DO make sure I only use my text expander or normals since they would probably arrest me if they caught me cutting or pasting or something.

Still think it's stupid though.
normals are not cut and paste - FG
[ In Reply To ..]
Copy from any word program is not allowed.
basically they are, as poster said, they just don't call them that - for HIPAA purposes
[ In Reply To ..]

normals are created by dictators or hospitals. - xx
[ In Reply To ..]
You can not be sure by copying and pasting what you are calling a normal is correct. The original transcriber may not be correct. True normals are pulled into the document and are created by dictators.

The employee handbook says no copying and pasting and suggesting it to someone seeking advice is irresponsible.
There are heaps of normals created by - transcriptionists too
[ In Reply To ..]
I myself have created a few way back when we were doing a lot of straight typing training the speech engine.

Pulling these MT-authored normals in is NOT illegal in any way or against HIPAA. We have NOT been told we can only use "true" normals.

If that's what you want to do, you do it, but it is perfectly fine to bring in normals that are not official! If I am stuck I try to see what normals are there for the dictator. There are a lot of ones that were developed before the ISR was much good that can really help, so there!

I for one refuse to be "scared" by this claptrap. I find these ominous warnings ridiculous.
anything, no matter who created it, that can be popped - into a report in seconds
[ In Reply To ..]
as a time and quality saver, is definitely a cut & paste, no matter what you call it - template, normal, etc. And, like one poster said, if the system will not allow you to cut or copy, then it cannot be cut or copied!

My TSM frequently reminds us that we CAN cut and paste from notepad, so she must not have the employee handbook memorized.

Further, you can also screen print a report into "paint" format as a sample and hand copy (type) it from there, but not cut & paste, an example of when cut & paste does not work.
When I pop in an MT created normal - I go through it meticulously
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't expect it to be "correct" - it is just a guide.

So (1) it is NOT copying and pasting, it is a normal, no matter who created it, and (b) if you pull a doctor created normal you just pop it in and fill in the blanks, but it goes without saying that the MT normals are just to be used as guides, not used in the way the dictator normals are.

I have to wonder what the difference is anyway between painstakingly entering an entire PE into your text expander (which I have done many a time) and copying and pasting from Wordpad.

I know it's a rule and I do follow it, but it does seem pretty silly, especially when HIPAA does not specify no copying and pasting.

Nuance just has to go that extra mile to cover their butt and it's no skin off their nose (as per usual) that it makes it more difficult for us to get decent line counts.
Exactly! They are 'guides," you still have to - edit/transcribe
[ In Reply To ..]
gotta wonder why some don't get it?

Copying and pasting is not a HIPAA violation - Claptrap is right

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but HIPAA has nothing to do with copying and pasting.

It doesn't even discuss it. HIPAA violations involve DISCLOSURES of PHI/PII to inappropriate entities.

actually hipaa does address this issue - see link

I also keep a long file on wordpad or word - by dictator

[ In Reply To ..]
This way I can search if I get stuck and 9 times out of 10 you can figure out what they are saying, especially in things like ROS and PE, or that unintelligible last line which is usually exactly the same, but sometimes is utterly impossible to hear because they just rush it.

waste of time asking TSM or anyone at N for help - et al

[ In Reply To ..]
They aren't familiar with any doctors anyway.

Think of yourself as Major Tom, sitting in a tin can far above the world. Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing you can do; your circuit's dead, there's something wrong -

Got A Feeling.
Jun 01, 2011

My boss keeps telling us corporate says we are not producing enough for the number of employees we have, but we have been producing. Every other week, she will call and say increase production. I have been with the company for 11 years. I have a feeling we are going to be bought out. I am thinking about looking for a new job? I need a backup plan. Sad to see that MT is all about the big wigs making money off the little guy. ...

Feeling Bad . . .
Apr 25, 2013

Took a test for a city job and just got notice that I did not pass.  I was on of over 300 people who took the  test.  Happy for those that passed but wish I would have been one of them.  I believe I bombed in the math calculations.  Boy is it ever a kick in the pants with regard to self-esteem to know that I cannot even pass a simple test.  What can an old timer like me do when all I ever have done is transcription?  Feelling about as low as possible right now. ...

Now that the bankruptcy business is taken care of, I have a bad feeling. I don't know why now exactly, I just do, that something bad cometh our way...pay cuts, more firings, the usual chaos. Maybe because things have been a little quiet lately. This place has made me paranoid perhaps.  ...

I just wanted to thank those who shared that have been with this company for more than 10 years.  I have really been feeling unloved by MQ lately.  There have been a lot of changes since I've been here, and I've only been here since early 2006.  Been worried also lately about being let go or being laid off.  I don't know, you just gave me some hope somehow and I wanted to thank you all for that.  I guess my job isn't that bad after all.  And we d ...

New MT...feeling Very Discouraged
Sep 29, 2010

Hi, I have recently graduated from an MT program and have been spending a lot of time on this forum. It has made me think that I may have made a huge mistake. I understand that times are hard, but does anyone have any good advice? I just have been getting discouraged so much lately. I have two young children and want to be able to stay home and help my husband to take care of our family. He already works two jobs as it is (in the health care field) and we just want to get ahead. Did I make a mis ...

Feeling Targeted
Feb 29, 2012

One day the company loves, you the next, they're exacting punishment to make you feel like you can't do your job. I am sure some of you have felt this way and have even been the victims of attempts to bring in other MTs to replace you. That's exactly how I felt today when I got an email today. I thought the manager was a bit harsh, rather than just giving a warning like the email said for the first time the error is made. How do you deal with this? I wish a lot of the times I coul ...

NetMed - Bad Feeling
Jun 21, 2012

Just quit this company. Initially had to fax my personal information numerous times because they lost it repeatedly, etc. Only allowed to type 10 reports per day on QA, unable to get off QA, QA editors never able to agree on policies and procedures. Also required to research dozens/hundreds of previous reports (no search engine available) to find information (QA stated they will not fill in blanks), which is frequently incorrect; not even making minimum wage at first. Even their docs are bit ...

Feeling Very Discouraged
Aug 14, 2012

Good morning, everyone. I know a few of you followed the last couple times I posted about how I had gotten a new job with a reputable company and they would not let me off full QA and how I was getting only three reports a day. I then posted the news was better on Friday because I was let off QA and given two more accounts. This morning I am feeling pretty low. I now have a total of four accounts and no work in any of them. I was hired as an IC and told I would have steady work and that I ...

Ominous Feeling
Jun 27, 2014

Okay, so an email came out this week from TL saying that the company wants as much work done in our accounts as possible before July 1 and expect to work overtime all weekend.  I have been at Nuance for almost 4 years now and this is NOT the norm...Additionally, this morning when account stats were sent out showing where the work was and how many MTs were working a new metric had been added to the chart in the MT category -- GP.  At the bottom this said GP = global partner.  They ...

IMEDX Feeling Behind
Aug 30, 2014

Friend of mine still works in-house at a hospital.  They have two employees out on long-term sick leave and are falling behind so the supervisor has gone with a company called iMEDX to do some transcription on the "weekends."  She asked if I had heard of this company since I worked for MTSOs for years, and when I checked them out, I find that at three of the top administrative people are from CBAY/MQ.  She needs to be worried, right?  My heart just broke for her when I read this.  Their ...

Experienced But Feeling Like A Newbie!
Sep 12, 2011

I have been a transcriptionist for the past 10 years, working in cardiology, acute care and now radiology. I do radiology part-time from home right now and most shifts I do not even average minimum wage because of a shortage of work. The company I work for is small and works two typists per shift when there is only enough work for one. It is so frustrating! I have sent out about 20 resumes in the last couple of weeks and haven't heard a word from anyone. It used to be so easy to get a job b ...

Feeling Very Resentful Lately, Bad Attitude!
Apr 19, 2012

My very own attitude has gone from bad to worse with the 4 cpl and the fact that I am typing over most of the garbage.  I was told by my CCM no F11 unless technical problems and they must be reported. Again today, I find myself really very angry while I wait for a job outside of the house to come through.  I find myself angry that I sit here for 4 cpl and no matter what I won't be able to make bills, b/c I am again straight typing half of this stuff and my skill set/self-esteem k ...

Feeling Beaten Down And About To Be Terminated.
Apr 24, 2013

Is there any way to get unemployment out of this company?  I am not meeting my lines per hour on ebtxt and don't know what to do.  Apparently my hours did not match on Webclock and the system last week. We are getting emails every week stating make sure you check this or that including do ctr + alt + I to check the print, which will only do it for 1 page, so then we have to do it for each page.  Also, check 3 pages in the AI sheet for each job, etc.  I feel lik ...
