With all these posts about getting out of MT, - what jobs are safe?

It seems like when someone comes on here to say that they are getting out of MT and studying coding or nursing or something, someone always has something negative to say about what they are pursuing. Well, what jobs are "safe" or good career opportunities. There has to be SOMETHING that can't be sent overseas or hires someone without experience, etc. Right?!

These days, who knows? Many of the credit companies, internet/phone providers, complaint departments, etc. are manned by offshore operators. Very depressing :(

yet our jobs are drying up, increasingly low paying, with often extremely unrealistic expectations and demands made upon us.

In my opinion, with few exceptions, it can only be up from here!

Also, every person has to weigh whether any new potential job/career will work for their own situation. Some have a lot of years left until retirement and might choose to go for something entirely different from those who are closer to retirement. Then, a person has to consider other factors, such as location (rural versus city), family dynamics (young children, single parenting, elderly parent), transportation, costs, etc.

So, the naysayers might be saying no/bad decision based on their own situation, but it might work for someone else.

I would say jobs that involve making or repairing something, auto, plumber, electrician, etc. nm - mtwith6yearstogo

I am looking to get recertified as a CNA. There are 2 NHs and a small hospital 2 blocks from me. I was a CNA back in the 90s and in Texas I just have to re-test, no need for classes. Anyway, I talked to the DON at one of the NH. We went to HS together and we have kids in the same class. We know each other well so we might have been a little too honest with each other. She said it is a hard crappy job (literally) and there is a big turnover rate because of it. The hours are crappy and lots of times they have to ask their CNAs to work OT. I told her I know but I have to keep the lights on, water running and food on the table until I get my Pharmacy Tech certification in.

internet sales, anything food or pet related are just a few. Don't sell yourselves short. A lot of MTs state they have no experience but they have a lot of transferable skills. There is no need to look for entry level positions.

Web development and programming type jobs can be done offshore. The other problem with computer jobs is there are a lot of people studying for those jobs so there is a lot of competition.

smaller and mid-size companies,start-ups, individusls, NPOs, schools, and govt are keeping the work here.

There is NO safe bet as far as any job - watch the news and see for yourself...I hate this profession, hate it with a passion...loved it 10 years ago...this job is too laced with feast/famine, mostly famine, and loss of accounts all the time, etc...just isn't steady - I am out in less than a year. For sure....so so so done

I am amazed at how many people ask the same question year after year about company after company. Companies have until 1/31 to mail W2s. The bigger the company, the longer it takes to finish up the previous year's books and have W2s ready to print. It takes a lot of time to print, assemble, stuff, seal, stamp and mail an entire company's worth of W2s. Yes, they do need help. The work has gone from NJA to multiple notices of needing help on specific accounts. I'm curious about all the posts regarding getting your 1099 if you're an IC. As an IC, a business person, you should already know what you've billed to clients (services). You don't need to wait for a 1099 to file your income taxes if you've kept good records and already know what you billed out and what you received. Why do people keep posting about being fired? I absolutely love seeing the posts of all the MTs obtaining their own clients!!! Please do not sell yourself short in pricing. It sells all of us short. It is very expensive to obtain and keep these, so do your homework and please do not accept work less than 11-12 cpls 60 cpl.
