Noise-cancelling headsets

I am looking for a good set of noise cancelling headphones- i don't want the kind that you have to switch on because i always forget to turn them off and the batteries die. My friend has a great set of Sony headphones that go over the ear and totally block out sound. I don't think they make them any more, however. They were sonyMDR-V600.
