Lost my job to VR. I knew it was coming. When you work on a specialty account that is half templates/normals, and your take home pay is at $3,000 a month - as I have said on here many times, there is no way it will last. I socked away a lot of cash in anticipation. When you have been in this business so long, you know people. I am too old to go back to school and too young to retire. I am tired of chasing account after account and pimping myself out to the highest bidder. I am going with a lower paying stable job with a chain of clinics (Doc in the Box, if you will) up and down the east coast, something that I can count on to be there in the future. They have gone from 1 center 30 years ago to 31 centers and growing.
The pay is only 7.5 cpl but you are not working for an MTSO, they are the client. They are on EMR already and all that means is they supply you with a computer and your transcription goes straight into the system. They refuse to use VR. No more BOS!!!!! No Physician Database, no copies. Straight clinic work. You simply have to use their list of abbreviations. I do have to work 1 weekend a month doing simple plain x-rays, 1000 lines on Sat and Sun at 12 cpl, which I am told will take you 2-3-1/2 hours on Sat and Sun only once a month. Oh and get this - if there are system troubles or there is no work - YOU GET PAID an hourly rate for 8 hours. They only require 1,400 lines (you can get 2000 in less than 8 hours), PTO and holidays, not to mention the other awesome benefits and 401 that they contribute to. If you DO NOT use their health insurance, they pay you $25 a paycheck. SWEEEET!! No set schedule. You have from midnight until midnight to do your work!!!! You do not have to do 8 hours unless you want.
This is probably not for everyone - perfect for me!! No more BOS, no more copies, no more audits, no more sitting at the computer waiting for work and not getting paid, and no more losing accounts to another company or new technology!! The cut in pay should not be very substantial but hubby is getting SS now, so we can afford it. I never have to say, "Honey, I lost another account today, no money for a while." I refuse to even look at any other options at this point because I believe offshoring and VR is taking over everything. This site/forum has been very valuable to me. I'm tired of living in fear - so I'm going for it!!!!
