Incompetent Management - ItsPervasive

Posted: Jul 05, 2011

After years of going through this, finally I have no other conclusion to draw but that it's pervasive.  I am talking about incompetent management.

They talk about "the team" this, "the team" that.  But they have NO concept of what teamwork is, so that is just lip service.

If I make a very simple request for something that will make the work flow more efficient and help everyone, I am either blown off completely or told "we will TRY to do that, but we're really busy."  I am provided with doctors' lists FULL of errors.  I am given incredibly disorganized instructions FULL of typos and other mistakes -- even the IMPORTANT stuff like keyboard commands.  They screw up my schedule.  They screw up invoices.  They screw up my paycheck.  Seemingly they screw up just about EVERYTHING they touch, but they QA me like a hawk and jump my case for some minor stylistic detail that has NO impact on patient care.

Just had to vent!

I have worked as a lead MT for many years and I also worked as a QA supervisor in the past. You need to realize that these MTs and supervisors have a lot of responsibility to handle on a daily basis. They are under the gun from administration/corporate and are trying their best to make everyone happy, including the MTs. If you are working for a small MTSO you have to also understand that the leads and supervisors are only as good as the tools they are given to work with. Many of them have to make due with older systems, inferior software, and lack of manpower to assist them with all the responsibilities these positions require.

If you are unhappy with the way things are run, why are you still working for them? Better yet, if you know that you would do a better job why not apply for a position as a lead MT, QA, or management position? I see them posted all the time on this board. Believe me, you would be singing a different tune when you are under the pressures they are under. You must remember that nobody is perfect and that includes management.

I suggest you move on if you are unhappy because complaining about it here is not going to get you anywhere -- just more frustrated.

I learned a long time ago that if a company is not working out for me, there are plenty of other fish in the sea, and I move until I find my happy place, which I have. Good luck to you.

Incompetent QA-What To Do?
May 09, 2012

I've been with MModal for just a little bit now after being outsourced.  I keep getting conflicting QA's.  Per the instructions I have on the system, I typed cranial nerves 2 through 12.  It comes back QA'ed with roman numerals.  So, I started typing roman numerals.  Comes back QA'ed as arabic. Left a patient's sister's proper name out.  MT style guide said replace it with "patient's sister".  QA sticks the name back in.  ...

Incompetent MT
Aug 15, 2012

I always felt I was good MT until I went to work here. Never had any complaints. Now, constant bad scores from QA and working my butt off to do a good job. I have been a transcriptionist for  20 years and worked for many companies including hospitals and this is about as bad as it can get. Maybe should try a new field, but at my age, not sure I can. ...

Why Do I Feel More And More Incompetent?
Nov 24, 2009

I have 20+ years' experience as an MT, 8 more years as a nurse before that, consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, yet I feel like I'm struggling more and more just to do this job.  I had the most horrific dictators today with the worst ASR, one after the other.  It felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders as I slumped in my chair trying to get the jobs done.  I just could not understand those Indian doctors.  Stutterers.  Clanging backgr ...

Incompetent Dictators
Jun 24, 2012

Has anyone ever considered coordinating with MT coworkers to refuse doing jobs for horrid dictators? Does anyone think this might motivate the MTSOs to have the backbone to contact the doctor to try to resolve the problem? This could be as simple as having them adjust their mic so that everything they say isn't covered by breath sounds from a mic too close, or learning to use the "PAUSE" command while they review a chart. The only reason they get away with this is because we continue t ...

Why The Incompetent Dictators Today?
May 30, 2015

I've been in the business 30 years and when I got my own accounts I rarely had bad dictators, so what has happened?  I know ESL plays a role, but that can't be blamed for the majority of Causacian dictators who don't pronounced anything in the ROS or PE, just mumble on, or just say one word like "Respiratory" and leave it to us to read his mind. My guess is that they are passive-aggressively getting back at the bean counters who forced SR on them.  The other possibi ...

Nuance...are Incompetent Supervisors A Problem For Anyone Else?
Oct 03, 2011

I have been working for Nuance for about four months now. From day one, I have trouble with supervisors and communication as well as stupidity!! It took me THREE WEEKS to get completely trained for ONE ACCOUNT so i could start working. During that time, for 1-1/2 weeks, I was communicating with a person who I was initially told to be my supervisor to find out 1-1/2 weeks later after she finally emailed me back that she was not my supervisor as the account that I had been hired to work on ha ...

Not Management
Mar 08, 2010

I am not management!  You just don't get it.  I hate to say it, but many of you are too miserable here to see the good... for whatever reasons.   I am an MT.  I'm tempted to put my real name and MQ e-mail, but what for.  I've said what I did because I am doing okay, because I have been through frightening changes before with MQ and it has always worked out.  It seems foolish to tell you my real name though, as you mostly are a bunch of whining loser ...

Is It Some New Management Technique Not To Say Thank You To
Sep 22, 2010

I'm a high producer and self starter. I don't need hand-holding.  But, geesh, it's just human nature to want to hear a sincere, individual compliment for a job well done sometimes, if for no other reason than it motivates me to do a better job and make the company more money.  At some point, it seems most management has started to treat the worker bees as enemies instead of part of the team.  It's short-sighted and lazy, and I know it has to be costin ...

Performance Management
Oct 12, 2010

I haven't been put on PM yet but fear I might.  Got an email that said I had a "low-scoring feedback report."  It was for using follow up instead of followup (I know better) and then omitting the word "the."  Now, I will own up to these mistakes, they WERE my mistakes, but by no means life-threatening in any case.  But apparently this caused my score to drop below 98%.  Now I'm terrified they are going drop my pay by 3 cents a line, and I am already in danger of not being able to ...

Dear Management
Jun 09, 2011

Dear Management,  I have enjoyed working for you for the past several years ... best place I have worked in during my 20+ years as an MT.  HOWEVER, why do you find it ethical to find ways to sneak in the back door and take money out of my pocket, thinking I will not notice.   Yes, I understand, you need your own line counting system because the one I type in for the client gives me partial credit for headers and footers, and of course I shouldn't get credit for those after ...

How Do You Get Management To Listen.
May 30, 2012

The MTs on my account have constantly complained about 1 doctor on VR who does not belong there!!  We are simply typing his reports for the lesser pay.  We have complained directly to our supervisor about it and nothing has been done because we do not send the reports to QA.  Certainly, you can understand what he is saying, that is not the problem.  The problem is he will not speak in complete sentences, and spells everything, so how can you send this to QA?  It signific ...

Nuance Management
Jul 17, 2012

After being with Nuance for over 1 year, I am disappointed that all I ever hear is bad news. I strive to make each document excellent, not just good, but no one cares about that, all they want is LPH which mysteriously went from 100 to 200 for the same pay. Kudos is needed for us peons who work so hard to keep quality standards high. How about a raise? ...

Management Positions
Nov 07, 2012

Upper Management
Mar 28, 2013

Nuance has just had a MAJOR announcement!  They are making changes to upper management AGAIN.  It is no wonder we get paid crap.  Look at their structure and they have WAY too many people in this establishment and all making way more than we do and we are the ones that do the work.  Heck, they probably do not even know how to do transcription I bet.  Greed, greed, greed.  And I could care less about it.  Give me the pay I am worth.  They want better qualit ...

My Management Team Is Gone ... :(
Sep 18, 2013

The TSM and QC person I've worked with forEVVVVER in the west is gone, both of them being moved up into new positions, and dividing their accounts and the entire team of MTs/MMEs has been disassembled and moved to other areas.  I am *terribly* sad about this because they were both absolutely amazing to work for, but I'm glad that I'll be staying in the Western region. My question is about my new TSM here in the West.  Her initials are KP ... anyone working with her?&nbs ...

Let's Pretend That Management Comes Here
Nov 22, 2013

What suggestion would you like to make? Try to be more specific than "pay us more money."  Pretend you're on a task force and (this is really a stretch I know) that someone values your opinion.  What would you suggest? One of my top ones would be to fix the fuzzy physician search that has been disabled for almost a year.  Another would be to get India on the same system we use, with Job Search available.  It's obvious they don't have it because they leave so m ...

To Nuance Management
Jun 12, 2014

Dear (and I use the term loosely) Nuance Management:  I know you monitor this board, so I hope you’ll see this and take it to heart, but I doubt you will.  You haven’t yet, so why should one more voice make any difference? There was a time when I cared.  There was a time when I took pride in my work.  There was a time when I really was glad I was an MLS, but no longer.  Nuance has beaten that out of me, through FIESA and their arbitrary QC/QA practices.  I can no longer say that I a ...

To Focus And Transcend Management
Apr 15, 2010

I know management at all levels from both companies read this board.  I have been told so directly by management at both companies. In the interest of providing some constructive criticism, I wanted to give you some simple insight into what you could do to improve your retention rates: Both Focus and Transcend have excellent pay structure, platforms and clear policies. Your QA seems to be fairly solid in their skill sets. The problem lies within your management tactic and a few key perso ...
