I just have to gripe. I work on this clinic, sm - jmn

Posted: Dec 23, 2010

with 1 other girl, and then the QA girl types on this clinic also.  I still have not figured this out.  We keep the work caught up and this QA girl gets on there and types with us when there is nothing to type.  I mean there can be 10 jobs there and she will get on to help us type 10 jobs.  My company makes me type any other clinic that is behind and this being the holiday, we have been given an extra 45-50 jobs to type from other clinics and the QA girl is nowhere to be seen.  What is up with that?  I just don't get it.  Other days, we are sitting here with our thumbs up our butt waiting for something to be put on to type and she types 300-400 lines for the day.  Why?  What is the point in that?  It's not like me and the other girl couldn't have handled it.  I have gotten to where I really despise and resent this QA person for doing this.  It sounds par for the course though.  There are 500 minutes to type and everybody does 1200 lines for the day.  When there is 100 minutes to type everybody jumps on and types it until its gone.  Sorry, I'm just aggravated with the way this is being done.  Thanks for listening

When there are no jobs for you to type, WHERE is the - qa girl finding those 300-400 lines to do?

As stated, if there are 10 jobs, she types them along with the 2 of us - jmn

to QA, when there is a lot of work, she is busy doing the QA.
Yeah you would think that, but since it's just us 2 girls, sm - hmmm

I already know she is not doing QA for us and the extra work we are doing is someone else's work that never got done from another account that we do not generally type. I think she's just an idiot and picks and choses what she wants to do when she wants to do it.
Not too much of an idiot if she is in a position to - do that, IMO. nm

"Other days, we are sitting here with our thumbs up our butt waiting for something to be put on to type and she types 300-400 lines for the day". Where does she find 300-400 lines while the other girl and you are sitting there doing weird things with your thumbs?

Do you know her job description or what her - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
supervisor advises her to do?? Don't jump to conclusions--it could very well be that she is just doing what others in the office ask her to do. If you are that concerned, ask your supervisor what is going on. Griping and letting it eat away at you does nothing to help decrease the stress of the situation.

Thanks for the advice but that's okay, sm - jmn

Been doing this for a long time. My experience, once you have something to say about something, you're treated differently after that. I got a second job to compensate for the days that there are not enough lines, so I don't care anyway. I just find it irritating.

Maybe QA girl lives in India? They seem - to take preference, these days. nm

Sometimes you just cant be happy.   MTs have always had it made. Now that real work is involved, and you finally need to put in a full 8-hour day for your paycheck, like many Administrators do, the whining begins.    I can work in jammies, not fix my hair, save gas, I can eat/drink/watch TV, not leave home unless I want to run to the local department store or walk the mall for hours.  You could come home and put in a couple hours of work it was great  - not so easy anymo ...

Just Gotta Gripe
Oct 30, 2009

I am just so exasperated right now!  I'm a new MT, been at it a little over 3 months.  I think the company I work for is pretty good.  We have mostly good dictators, good platform, plenty of work, and nice QA and staff.  I type 70 wpm, and I add to my word expander and autocorrect daily.  Our minimal required line count per week is 6,000, and I'm only averaging about 3,500 to 3,800.  I'm putting in 50 hours or a little more and still can ...

Gotta Gripe
Jul 19, 2012

I've got a gripe.  I hope this is not too long but would really like suggestions if any of my fellow MTs have been in this predicament.  If you are QA turned MT, don't bother to reply.  I don't need sarcasm to start my day. The company I worked for went into partnership with another company.  The new company even changed the name of the company and the new partner is the president of the company.  We're supposed to make all complaints to her; however ...

My Most Recent Gripe
Aug 27, 2012

Was recently told by two new physicians to "use my standard."  The standards that were provided were virtually unrecognizable as medical reports.  Even though they were eventually fixed by the QC person, they nevertheless had been produced by someone, somewhere in the first place.  Is this what the ILPs are producing?  And they want us to be 99% accurate?  You would have had to see these "standards" to believe what they looked like.  My unedited work looks better th ...

My Latest Gripe
Dec 01, 2012

How many times, I mean how many, really, must we stack the subheading to the left, capitalize it, put a colon after it, and remove the word "is" before this stupid speech engine figures out that's how it's supposed to do it, not all in one paragraph?  I mean, it's a client specific, and I am pretty everyone is doing it this way, every time, so don't tell me this is the MTs fault.  ...

Just A Vent/gripe About Companies And Their Requirements
Jul 24, 2012

I  just had to turn a job down, (after giving it very careful consideration) due to their LPH requirements on VR.  I am in my late 50s, have been doing this for years, mainly straight typing and I also have a slight physical distability, where I am not a "speed typist," but I am accurate.  I  get so frustrated with these companies and the fact that they require "125-150 lph" for straight typing and "200-250 lph " for VR and if you for some unforeseen reason, you can' ...

Clinic Going VR With EHR
May 10, 2011

I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed over and over - I'm just starting to research it a bit.  (I haven't completely been under a rock but I have been in my own happy little world with my job ... until now).  I'm an IC transcriptionist (working from home) for a local clinic of 15 MDs/PAs.   Three of them are using Dragon Speak  VR  with EHR.  A fourth one just started.  What I want to know is if there is a place for me when m ...

What Is The Best Way To Go After Your Own Little Clinic Account?
Nov 13, 2010

My company just lost a huge account.  Since then I have not made much money at all.  I am scraping to get by.  After 10 years in the medical transcription field I am fed up.  I have always worked on such great accounts for good money.  Now, I cannot find something that is even average pay.  I am going to be taking a medical coding course; however, I still need to provide for my three kids.  I want to go out and solicit doctors and try to secure my own account, ...

In-house Clinic Pay
Nov 16, 2010

I have an interview with a local eye clinic (there are six surgeons).  Just wondering what kind of salary to expect to be offered or ask for (!), having been paid as a remote MT/VR Editor by production for many years and haven't a clue about salaries in clinics any more.  It is not as an IC but as member of their staff, permanent, full-time, 40 hours a week. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.   ...

Nuance Took Over My Clinic
Dec 10, 2012

I just found out today when I had no work with my smaller company that Nuance took over all the work starting today.  I found out they knew about it 2 months ago and didn't tell us.  I am waiting on the contact information from the original clinic manager at the doctor's office so hopefully we can go with our work.  Has anyone else had this happen and if so how good are the chances of just going with Nuance.  At this point I just need the work.    Thank ...

Been Doing Clinic My Whole MT Career...
Jul 05, 2013

I've been doing clinic my whole six-year MT career. Now since there are not that many clinic transcription jobs anymore, I'd like to learn acute. But of course, all the acute ads say they want experience. I'm confident that I can pass some of the acute care job tests. Are some employers open to giving you an acute care job if you do well on the test, having no actual job experience in it? I went to a good school and am confident in my abilities. What has been your experience in th ...

Overflow Clinic MT
Sep 19, 2013

No idea who that ad on the Job Seekers board is from (Tracy in Lousiana, but no company name). Am I the only one who wondered if the "overflow" 1 to 2 days a week is some atrocious dictator that the person running the ad doesn't want to have to endure? I never thought of farming out the bad dictators when I had my own accounts.  I just did the worst ones first and got them out of the way.   Anyway, not saying that's what the poster is doing but thought it *would* be an int ...

Question About Clinic Work
Apr 10, 2010

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but....I have been an MT for 20 years doing ER, Radiology and Basic 4.  I'm thinking of taking a job doing Clinic work.  I'm used to lots of lines with ERs and Basic 4, but I was just wondering if you can get enough lines and make enough money doing Clinic work? ...

Clinic Notes = No Money?
Apr 16, 2010

I lost my primary accounts recently and was switched to an account where most of the jobs are really short clinic-type notes (less than a minute).  This pay period, my paycheck will be over $200 less than it was when I had my primary accounts, and I'm barely making my minimum line counts.  I've been doing this job for a long time and have always had really good line counts before.  I've been feely really down in the dumps like maybe I've just kind of lost ...

Setting Up Clinic Account
Jun 07, 2011

I did transcription for a physician about 15 years ago (drove 20 miles to his office, picked up tapes and returned finished product 2-3 times a week).  He is unhappy with his current transcription service and wants me to do it again.  He uses a digital recorder now and I am not sure how to set things up so I can do it online or through email.  I would greatly appreciate any direction or advice in this area.  ...

Question To Those Of You Who Do Clinic Notes...
Jul 28, 2011

Has anyone started to get more work in the last year (in a clinic setting)? It was steady for me a few years ago, and now I am overwhelmed with the amount of dictation I have!! Each of the doctors I work for are seeing wayyy too many patients in one day, thus more dictating, etc.  Im putting in like 10-12 hour days now, whereas I used to only work 5 or 6. They are scheduling the patients all at the same time, making them wait in the waiting room for a couple hours, and ...

Punished For Emdat Clinic 360?
Dec 08, 2014

Do I understand correctly that we are basically "punished" for working on the Emdat platform via the "platform factor" of all lines x 0.95?  When I work each day, I will have lines that I actually typed deducted simply because I work on the Emdat platform?  I hope I am misunderstanding this. If this is the case, can someone please explain why this would be?  I understand that some people have more difficult platforms, and they should be compensated accordingly, but why are they t ...
