Does anyone carry Errors and Omissions Insurance? - BobbyJ

Does anyone carry Errors and Omissions Insurance?  If so, what is the ballpark cost of a yearly premium?  Thanks.

$500-750 annually - onemore

What is errors and omissions insurance? I have never heard of this before.

E&O - Happy MT Robin

Insurance that will provide defense coverage for you if you, in the course of your work/profession, make an error or omission that causes harm to someone else in some fashion. For instance, if an insurance agent lets a policy lapse and the insured has a loss that is then not covered, or if said agent neglects to make sure that a specific type of coverage is included in the policy terms and a loss occurs that is not covered.

I've been pretty vocal about the fact that I do not believe any MT should ever be required to get E&O insurance. The doctors/health care providers are required to sign their reports once they receive them back from the MT/MTSO. That action then puts the burden of accuracy on the health care provider NOT the MT, so any error would fall into the purvue of the health care provider.

From the checking I did, $500 to $750 a year would be on the low end of the scale for this type of insurance for an MT and could possibly run closer to $1500 a year. I would never do it.

Thanks for the Input - BobbyJ

Thanks for the input. I feel the same way. They are the last to see the report and should at least skim it before they sign it. But I have recently learned that some places require MT's to carry it. That's why I was curious as to the cost. Still haven't decided whether to do it or not.

I have never heard of this - and would not get it

Sounds like just another way to part a fool from his money.
Check with your local - onemore

Check with your local insurance that you use for your auto and homeowner's insurance, you can get a discount. This was where I checked for the E&O insurance. I believe they called it something else but does the same thing.
Be very careful with this - Happy MT Robin

Make sure they are indeed calling it E&O insurance. If they call it something else, then it is not E&O. It cannot be combined with your homeowners and/or auto insurance. Those are very, very different types of coverages. I would be surprised if a State Farm agent or another type of agent like that sold E&O. This is very specific insurance that is typically only available through a wholesale insurance market. That means that your retail agent like State Farm, Farmers, etc., has to go to the wholesaler to buy the policy to sell it to you.

1 Point Errors, Critical Errors.
Dec 08, 2012

I get dinged for leaving out words like the, and others.  I am now understanding that this is not the correct policy, that others are not getting critical error, major error, off one point for this.  So, am I being singled out? Because I thought this was the norm.  I'd like to know so that while I am hanging on every word and will continue to do so, I thought I was not the only one with this...thanks in advance for the update.  ...

Can't We Carry Over 40 Hours PTO?
Dec 10, 2012

We just got an e-mail from our TSM that we HAVE to use all our PTO by 01/05/2013.  Now granted, we are a recent buy-out and our TSM is learning all the new polices and procedures, but she specifically states in her e-mail that she was told to relay this to us.  I checked the polices and procedures that I printed a few months ago and it states we can carry 40 hours over.  Would love an answer from someone who has been in the trenches longer than a few months with MModal.  Than ...

IMEDx 2 Days Carry Over Holiday Pay
Nov 14, 2014

My friend says that DH of IMEDx a few weeks ago said that they can carry over 40 hours of holiday/sick/get a life pay to 2015. THEN, IMEDx today announces, 6 weeks before year's end, that only 2 days can roll over, and those must be used by end of March 2015. My question is this:  I highly doubt any Labor Board would allow them to do this 6 weeks before year's end. We all roll 4 to 6 days over, if we can get them, so that we have a shot at a good summer vacation. Now, it will be ...

CRITICAL ERRORS
Jun 15, 2010

Has anyone at the Q been getting hit by "critical errors" on crazy stuff that has never been an issue BEFORE?   All of the sudden, after no feedback for about a month, no audits, nada, zilch, I got my audit and was given critical feedback for not capitilizing a department! (recovery room, radiology suite, cardiac cath lab...)  AND, in a verbatim report, with a client profile that says specifically, DO NOT ADD A HEADING IF ONE IS NOT DICTATED, for NOT adding a heading!  This makes me nuts ...

Documentation Errors
Sep 15, 2010

I work in a surgery center/clinic in medical transcription. I have never worked in the medical field before, so I'm not sure what is acceptable. We get massive amounts of documentation errors from the nurses in the surgery center and in the clinic. Is this usually acceptable?! Is it normal for a transcriptionist to be required to scan over the chart and correct all of their errors or should this be the responsibility of the nursing staff? It's DRIVING me up a wall! I'd say 75 ...

Medical Errors With EMR
Sep 23, 2012

Has anyone heard of complaints with erroneous information in medical records due to EMR or point and click? My mother recently had to get medical clearance for joint surgery. She was shocked and stated she had never taken those meds. Another family member, who does not drink, got a copy of his most recent physical required yearly f ...
