Can anyone recommend a FREE antivirus program or even ... SM - Ann

a free-trial antivirus? My current one is expiring very shortly & I cannot afford what they're asking just right now.

Some anti-virus programs will advertise FREE when you google them, then will require you to pay up front. Some will let you upload them and "Save" them, but then won't open or work when you try. Will appreciate any advice. Thx.

Microsoft has one that is free. I used one from them several years ago that worked well. I have posted the link. Norton also has a 30 day free trial on their newest version.

I have used this for several years. I really like it. There is a free version and there is also a pay version. I have used both the free and the paid version.

It was one of the ones my tech guy advised after I spent $250 getting my laptop hard drive redone after picking up a virus while using Norton. There was no fixing it other than wiping the whole thing.

MS Security Essentials and AVG were the 2 that he really recommended and both are free.

Malwarebytes has a good one that is free and there is also a paid version that gives you a little bit more. If you get to the point where you have an extra $40 and want to spend the money, then Spyware Doctor from PC Tools is also a good one

I've used it for nearly nine years after spending six eight-hour days clearing my PC of a nasty little virus. Never found anything better.

I work full time for a company where I am on a platform with a built in expander program, but I recently started picking up jobs for a friend's company when she gets too busy and her staff can't keep up with it. All of the work there is done on Word and would be so much easier if I had an expansion program. Somehow I have gotten this virus on my laptop and when searching for ways to remove it on the internet (on my desktop), all the sites are either extremely comlicated or want you to download things in order to remove it.
