Opinons regarding remote coding jobs - CTMT

Posted: Aug 03, 2012

I noticed a few companies, one of them being Accentus, have coding positions that can be done from home. Anyone have one of these? Is the pay good or is it lower than a job out of the home?

Pay for remote coding is pretty much the same as on-site. Coders who can work remotely with success are experienced and skilled. There are higher requirements in terms of work experience and credentials, and sometimes in terms of productivity. Some companies require an RHIA or RHIT in addition to AHIMA coding credentials. You might not be able to get a remote job unless you have worked on-site for some time.

In my area, 4 out of 5 hospitals have remote coders (sm) - FuzzyWuzAnMT

I see the percentage of hospital coders being able to work remotely only increasing as more HIM departments are getting off the paper charts for good.

Possible To Do Remote Coding?

Are there any companies out there that hire specifically for remote coders.  I saw a few and applied but have never heard back.  I do have my CPC but I don't know if they are looking for anything in particular. Remote Coding Questions.
Jan 31, 2015

I currently have a small IC MT account that I plan to support myself on while I get through coding school.  This IC account is all done via encrypted email and can be done from anywhere I can get a wifi connection.  I have worked on this job while visiting friends in Italy.  It is a wonderful thing.  My question is this:  Are there opportunities for remote coders (maybe not in the beginning) than enable that freedom?  I used to work remotely doing MT for a hospital ...

Are Remote Coder Jobs Hard To Find?
Apr 14, 2014

I am a MT/VR considering training for Coding/Billing and wondering how hard it is to get a remote coding job or if I would be limited to finding a position in an office, hospital, etc.  I enjoy working from home, but in the past few years, just cannot make a decent living anymore.  Thanks for any info you can give me. ...

Opinons Please
Feb 15, 2012

Good morning everyone!  I have searched the boards, but I wanted to see what opinions I could get right here.  I received my certificate in MT in 2007.  I worked for MQ right out of school, but left when things started getting ridiculous (60 different accounts a day).  I then went to a small MTSO, but left there in 2008 when I was pregnant with my third child.  I haven't worked as an MT since.  I worked as an editor/proofreader for the last 3 years until the co ...

Coding Jobs
Sep 21, 2013

I've been tossing around the idea of going to school for coding.  I researched jobs yesterday, though and I saw no jobs paying higher than $18/hr.  For those of you working in the field, can you confirm or deny if you make more than that?  I'm still pulling in $24-28 doing MT and am going to need at least that in a new job (I get that starting out I wouldn't get that, but I do have some experience in coding and would hope that would at least land me mid level).  ...

Do You Think Coding Jobs Will Be Sent Overseas Some Day As Well? Sm
Dec 23, 2009

I really need to get out of the MT profession.  I am a newly single mom and am making less money as an MT than I was 5 years ago.  I just cannot afford to do this anymore.  I always see coding jobs posted at my local hospital.  Do you think these jobs will be sent overseas just like transcription?  I am thinking of going into nursing but don't know yet.  What would be a good healthcare career to get into? ...

Coding Jobs Going To India?
Dec 21, 2011

This is a question for coders.  I am thinking about taking the coding course through Andrews school.  I am just asking about the outlook for medical coding in the future.  Have any coders out there lost their jobs due to it going to India or overseas or to any computerized program like Epic or Amazing Charts.  I am just asking before I take the course through Andrews.  I think there is a future in coding. Thank you for any replies. ...

Credit Report And Coding Jobs
Jul 05, 2013

I have to file bankruptcy in the next month or so. There's no way around that. I am also going to be starting a coding program. HIT Training But No Jobs - Should Have Studied Pure Coding
May 11, 2015

We all learn from our mistakes. Some of us just take longer.  After bumbling around for several years with HIT training, etc., it's time to get serious and go for a coding certificate.  What a waste these past several years have been and still not even close to being prepared for a CCS or a job as a coder.  Starting over again but doing it right this time. In order to get a coding job, you need that CCS. The rest was just filling in time and wasting money. ...

Remote Job After Graduating

I'm curious how many of you graduated from your medical coding/billing course and found a job to work remotely?  I'm currently a transcriptionist looking to enroll in a coding/billing course, but will not be able to work onsite to gain experience that most of these companies are wanting.  I've been doing some research and most of them want you to have 3 years onsite experience.  I will need something remotely after graduation.  I thought I would check here and ...
