I've been tossing around the idea of going to school for coding. I researched jobs yesterday, though and I saw no jobs paying higher than $18/hr. For those of you working in the field, can you confirm or deny if you make more than that? I'm still pulling in $24-28 doing MT and am going to need at least that in a new job (I get that starting out I wouldn't get that, but I do have some experience in coding and would hope that would at least land me mid level).  ...
I really need to get out of the MT profession. I am a newly single mom and am making less money as an MT than I was 5 years ago. I just cannot afford to do this anymore. I always see coding jobs posted at my local hospital. Do you think these jobs will be sent overseas just like transcription? I am thinking of going into nursing but don't know yet. What would be a good healthcare career to get into? ...
This is a question for coders. I am thinking about taking the coding course through Andrews school. I am just asking about the outlook for medical coding in the future. Have any coders out there lost their jobs due to it going to India or overseas or to any computerized program like Epic or Amazing Charts. I am just asking before I take the course through Andrews. I think there is a future in coding.
Thank you for any replies. ...
in my area. A hospital here is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for a FT inpatient coder as well as for a PT DRG validation specialist. Just wondering if that is the norm or if, since this hospital isn't in the greatest area, they are having trouble finding people to work there. Any thoughts? ...
So Nuance bought out Transcend? It will probably come down to only 2 companies left, Nuance and IM*Moral. Then they will either fight to the death or team up. ...
I am an MT and am currently taking a coding/billing course and plan to take the CPC exam after completion. Does anyone know of any companies who hire newbies to work at home as coders? Any sites like MTstars that post coder jobs? I prefer to stay at home, but everything I'm seeing requires experience. Thanks for any help. ...
Once you learn coding, it's fun! I've done so many other jobs in my life that I can't even count them. I can't think of many that were actually fun, but I think coding is. ...
I noticed a few companies, one of them being Accentus, have coding positions that can be done from home. Anyone have one of these? Is the pay good or is it lower than a job out of the home? ...
Has anyone graduating from the Andrews coding course gotten jobs. I know how hard it is to get a job without prior experience. I am 61 and wondering if it is worth the expense and effort to take the couse. I have fifteen years of MT experience and also have worked in a hospital for years before that. Thanks. ...
I have to file bankruptcy in the next month or so. There's no way around that. I am also going to be starting a coding program. A lot of coding employers do a credit check. I guess I'll finish coding school in a year or so, so by that time, after building back up my credit, will the bankruptcy not matter so much to future employers? ...
I wanna switch to coding from transcription after 14 years. I do have an Associate degree in health information technology and know coding, DRGs, inpatient and outpatient, SNOMED and CPT codes, ICD9 and some computerized systems. I'd love to continue working at home. Right now I am an MT but wouled like to do something else. Us transcriptionists fear our supervisors calls, letters...we avoid email sometimes for fear of the dreadfull termination letters. Ready for bed now. I need to wo ...
Hello, I am a MT and wanted to also do coding, could you please tell me how to search for jobs at home once I am done with school ?? Does anybody have a board for coder jobs thanks so much ...
We all learn from our mistakes. Some of us just take longer. After bumbling around for several years with HIT training, etc., it's time to get serious and go for a coding certificate. What a waste these past several years have been and still not even close to being prepared for a CCS or a job as a coder. Starting over again but doing it right this time. In order to get a coding job, you need that CCS. The rest was just filling in time and wasting money. ...
Slowly they will transfer accounts, one by one, to India, starting with the easiest accounts/work types first. Soon we here in the US will be left with ONLY the bottom of the barrel indecipherable CRAP........which we will have to send to QA hence our pay will be practically reduced to what they pay for Indians to do the work. A lot of us will finally throw in the towel, not being able to accept minimum wage, which will be fine with them. They just don't want it all happen ...
Yep, you read that right: Twitter. I have an account and just now I did a search at the top of the page, and you wouldn't believe all the results that came up, local results from different parts of the country posting coding jobs. It's great. So that's just FYI for y'all. ...
The people I know who will now be getting medical insurance will obviously now go to the doctor when they get sick. It makes sense to me that there will be more coding and more billing, right? That's a good thing for us I think. ...
It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. If an employer can PROMISE IN ...
Kind of wondering if this last job posting on the jobs board might be associated with one of those "you pay us to find you a job" type of organization. I googled Medical Jobs Online and found nothing stating that are a legitimate MTSO :( ...
Accepted a job, gave 2 weeks notice, and yesterday was my first day. I was to be helping out transcription (1000 jobs behind), and then sitting with billing and training with coding as their coder will be out on maternity leave in December. The office is adding another surgeon, and they are rapidly expanding. So I gave a proper 2 weeks' notice to my former employer (2 hours on the road there and back, low salary - now less than half distance and $3 more an hour) and starte ...
I tried entering my ID plus dep on the Fluency for Transcription page and it said my account was inactive. Okay, so I tried twice with Remedy to get it reactivated. Both times I got emails telling me it was working. Tried again and no luck. Am I on the right page, the one with the hideous orange splash, the same one we use to find our stats? Any help appreciated, I really don't want to have to call tech support if I don't have to. Do I even need to d ...
Is there really such a thing as an AA degree in coding? Sounds odd to me. Health administration or management, or RHIT I can see, but coding?
Is it not better to just become Certified even if you dont have an AA degree? ...
Wondering if there are any coders out there who can give me an idea of the fate of coding due to the EMR. Are there still coding jobs out there? Would it be wise to attend school for coding at this point or do you think it will be lost to the EMR eventually? I live in a rural area and there are advertisements for registered/accredited coders at medical facilities, but I'm afraid of spending all that time and money on schooling only to not be able to find a job. Any information/insight w ...
I am thinking about changing from MT to coding. Are there many opportunities to work from home with coding? What would be a good school to attend?
Thank you for the help. ...
My sister is taking an online coding course and complains that there is no real "teaching," that she's basically just doing the work in the work book and entering answers online, then taking an online chapter test. This makes me wonder about the necessity of signing up for an actual course. I would like to learn how to code, but to me, without any actual instruction, what's the purpose of signing up for one of these online courses? ...
