Coding jobs in Bangalore, India... - deja vu
Posted: Feb 16, 2014Seriously...
About your doomsday announcement... - It is only deja vu to vous.

You're late with your doomsday announcement. We have discussed it here before, roughly once a month, explaining the number of reasons that make the situation quite different than it was for MTs. Sorry you missed them.
You know, if you don't think coding and its related fields are what you would like to do, pretty much everyone here would agree on two things ... first, you shouldn't do it, and, second, you should find something to do that does not involve disparaging the choices of others.
Time will tell. - Chicken Little.

A large line item in the budget makes for a lot of incentive to find a way to do it cheaper. Seems obvious to me.
In fact, was mentioned at my company in passing at a recent town hall meeting along with the "excuse" of there not being enough people in the US to do it all here.
Why would you believe that when you do not believe - anything else they say?
[ In Reply To ..]
Clearly, you missed something ... coding is not a dead-end job. CODING IS JUST ONE OF MANY CLOSELY RELATED JOBS.
Coders who get there through HIM programs easily move into other HIM and informatics positions. Coders who start just with coding also move into other HIM and informatics positions, with or without additional education. They do this easily.
That is one of the selling points of coding ... that it is a good stepping-stone job.
I hope so. - Just would hate to see it...

go down for you all like it did for MTs.
Remember how smug all we MTs used to be - about our job security? heh, heh....

It's kind of sad, but then again, it's also kind of funny.
Speak for yourself -- as an MT I was never smug - student

But then again, I never thought anyone's misfortune was funny. I also never had enough time to troll boards that had nothing to do with me. It's funny . . . some of my best friends are MT's, and they are some of the most intelligent, funny and compassionate people I know. Too bad I don't see much of that here.
My facility is sure spending a lot of money to get s ready for ICD-10. - Student

I would not think they would invest so much now, to outsource later. Coders don't cost money, they bring in money. A lot of money.

Deja vu - Why does it matter
[ In Reply To ..]
If you are not a coder, why does it matter to you? Do you get up every morning and surf the web for bad news?
Like I said originally... - deja vu

this was stated by the CEO of our company in a town hall meeting about coding being outsourced due to a shortage of people in the U.S. to do the work. Sorry if you don't want to hear it.
I wonder if it's the same "shortage" of people - in the US that the MTSOs claimed - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
there was for MTs. That was their original "excuse" for offshoring. Then the schools cranked out tons of new MTs, many of which were unable to find jobs.
Could that be the course coding will take? I certainly hope not, but the way things have been going in medicine the last decade, stranger things have happened.
If the quality of coding from offshore companies . . . - student
[ In Reply To ..]
is as bad as the quality produced by offshore transcription companies, they will never put up with it. Hospitals seem willing to accept garbage transcription from offshore, (and it is ridiculous how bad it is), just because it is cheaper. However, coding affects their bottom line. Regardless, none of the coders seem that concerned about it, so if you aren't a coder, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Coding Jobs Going To India? Dec 21, 2011This is a question for coders. I am thinking about taking the coding course through Andrews school. I am just asking about the outlook for medical coding in the future. Have any coders out there lost their jobs due to it going to India or overseas or to any computerized program like Epic or Amazing Charts. I am just asking before I take the course through Andrews. I think there is a future in coding.
Thank you for any replies. ...

Coding Jobs Sep 21, 2013I've been tossing around the idea of going to school for coding. I researched jobs yesterday, though and I saw no jobs paying higher than $18/hr. For those of you working in the field, can you confirm or deny if you make more than that? I'm still pulling in $24-28 doing MT and am going to need at least that in a new job (I get that starting out I wouldn't get that, but I do have some experience in coding and would hope that would at least land me mid level).  ...
Do You Think Coding Jobs Will Be Sent Overseas Some Day As Well? Sm Dec 23, 2009I really need to get out of the MT profession. I am a newly single mom and am making less money as an MT than I was 5 years ago. I just cannot afford to do this anymore. I always see coding jobs posted at my local hospital. Do you think these jobs will be sent overseas just like transcription? I am thinking of going into nursing but don't know yet. What would be a good healthcare career to get into? ...

HIT Training But No Jobs - Should Have Studied Pure Coding May 11, 2015We all learn from our mistakes. Some of us just take longer. What a waste these past several years have been and still not even close to being prepared for a CCS or a job as a coder. Starting over again but doing it right this time. In order to get a coding job, you need that CCS. The rest was just filling in time and wasting money. ...

Just Another Vent About Jobs, No Jobs, Requirement Of Jobs, Etc. Aug 18, 2010It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

Hired For Coding/billing/transcription, But Told No Coding Aug 13, 2013Accepted a job, gave 2 weeks notice, and yesterday was my first day. I was to be helping out transcription (1000 jobs behind), and then sitting with billing and training with coding as their coder will be out on maternity leave in December. The office is adding another surgeon, and they are rapidly expanding. So I gave a proper 2 weeks' notice to my former employer (2 hours on the road there and back, low salary - now less than half distance and $3 more an hour) and starte ...

Coding School - Fate Of Coding Due To EMR Apr 10, 2012Wondering if there are any coders out there who can give me an idea of the fate of coding due to the EMR. Are there still coding jobs out there? Would it be wise to attend school for coding at this point or do you think it will be lost to the EMR eventually? I live in a rural area and there are advertisements for registered/accredited coders at medical facilities, but I'm afraid of spending all that time and money on schooling only to not be able to find a job.
