anything about Fox Transcribe? - curious

Does anyone know anything about Fox Transcribe? Appreciate the info. Thanks!

work with them - MJINATL

[ In Reply To ..]
I currently work for them - for about a month or two now. Not bad, not bad. I guess I became soooo increasingly frustrated with the out of work situations with a couple of the MTSO's I worked for, I thought I'd take a leap and see what FoxTranscribe was about. The pay isn't the best (.50 cents/per audio), but the pay is weekly and I know there's chance for pay increase later on. There's tons of work to be done - basically you're typing interviews between one or more party's, meetings, etc. a huge variety of general transcription. I love it because there's no schedule you're confined to, you can choose to select an audio or not and once you do select an audio or two or three - whatever fits your schedule, you can make all the money you want. You know when the audio has to be back. I still have my medical transcription as a first priority - just depends on what you're seeking. (FoxTranscribe pays via PayPal)

Okay that helps a lot! I was wondering about the Paypal because I don't have an account and was leary about setting this up, but I appreciate your information. That sounds good. I too and tired of the shaky ground that MTs are facing...was looking beyond the confines of general medical transcription too. Thank you!

When I pulled up the template to test..there was nothing on it. It was blank. ?? Was that your experience too?
Thanks again!

You are given 2 audio files and the template. I pulled the 2 files into Express Scribe and typed them on the template (separately) and returned them.

Fox Transcribe - Application process

[ In Reply To ..]
Hi,

I filled out the application for Fox Transcribe a few days ago and was wondering if anyone knew when they usually respond back (either way, yes or no). Thanks. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I applied on Thursday and got an email - applicant

.50 a min or 30 bucks an audio hour? PULEEEEEEZE!!! - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Come on, fellow transcriptionists! That rate is a rip-off! I have said it over and over on here that the MINIMUM rate for general with NO experience is $45 an audio hour and with experience a MINIMUM rate of $60 and a/h. AND THIS IS FOR CLEAR AUDIO, TWO-SPEAKERS - it goes up, wayyyyy up, from there. You are doing the same thing to general transcription that the off-shores are doing to MT - you are accepting unacceptable rates, driving down our wages! You are turning any form of transcription into slave labor rates!

STOP TAKING THESE JOBS FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY! HELP OUT YOUR FELLOW TRANSCRIPTIONS AND YOURSELVES BY NOT ACCEPTING THAT HORRIBLE WAGE!

What's weird is there of plenty of general transcription places ... - me

[ In Reply To ..]
...that pay much, much better than that--with a similar system of flexible scheduling, etc. You just have to look for them. I can't understand why anyone would value themselves so little.

because that is what we have been taught to accept just to get a job! - anon

Get off your soap box - working

You show me where and I will gladly sign up. Been doing this for 10 years...I'm tired of "outsourcing"..."streamlining"....and all the other fancy terms that are used to state the overall reality that MT jobs are NOT stable.

Give us a break - working

[ In Reply To ..]
For me personally, I am not looking to get rich. I am looking to supplement and in case you have not noticed...the medical transcription world is going downhill FAST. The general rate of 0.07 cents per 65 character line is a rip-off too. A little money is better than no money. If you choose to hold out on to high-paying companies, that is your business, but don't criticize those of us who are tired of the medical transcription world and their games. Plenty of work that is less money, is better than barely any work and lots of money per line. Use common sense here.

How can I apply - wondering

[ In Reply To ..]
This is the best thing I have heard in awhile. Yes, some money is better than no money, I completely agree. I checked their website, and I do not see any career section etc.. how can I apply for a position there? Are they hiring? I could keep this sad job I have now with only work on 3 days of the week and transcribe for this company very easily, 20 year MT! Thanks

Seriously, there's a huge backlog and they're begging people to work! You could start seeing money in your account this Monday (well, you know, depending on how long hiring takes).

I can type only about 25-30 minutes in an hour, so it would - $12.5 an hour for me, nm

.

On focus groups, you would be typing max 15 min an hour - this is the reality of what it takes - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been doing general and legal for years. MT for 24 years. I absolutely will NOT do medical seminars or focus groups. You will lose your behind on them. You all need to go to a legal/general transcription forum and see how it really is; how much money you should be making for work like this. There is so much to look up that you watch your money maker go right down to the level of MT wages. I've done entertainment (think reality TV shows), railroad accident interviews, police, VA hearings, Social Security Appeal Hearings - that's where your money is. Not this focus group crap.
General transcription - Runamok
[ In Reply To ..]
My best friend got into doing this right out of MT school and was working her behind off to try to make any money at all. She found a lot of it interesting but there would be so many people talking at one time and trying to overtalk each other and she was "googling" as much, if not more, for this than MT work. She did get a job doing seminars on medical research (cancer) and loved that because she was learning a lot, though she was looking up a lot and there was not much information out there and a lot of the drugs were not being said as she thought they would be spelled so there was a lot of research with that as well - it was just more interesting for her. She did it to supplement her husband's income and did very well - she just worked way too many hours and I am sure it was not close to $12 or $15 an hour. But, every job is different and every transcriptionist is different. If you can do it without losing anything, go for it. You don't know if you don't try I guess.
Fox Transcribe - working
[ In Reply To ..]
Once again, some of us are just supplementing our income. It doesn't matter what experience you have, if you don't have experience with THIS company..then you can't say. Like I posted before....a little money long-term is better than lots of money short-term. The MT world is becoming a joke. The few who are still making a good living...will one day be singing the same song as the rest of us. I once made a good living too...It is unstable. If you aren't looking to get rich and only supplement...this company is a good start.
If Fox doesn't pay enough, then (sm) - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
...what are the names of the companies that pay so much better?

I've worked with Fox since April and have been pretty happy with them. They have TONS of work and no set schedule. It is a good way to supplement your income. I'd say I make $12-15/hour on average.

Before I started with them I read comments online saying their rates were terrible and should be much higher. I decided to go with them anyway because I knew for a fact they were hiring. I've Googled and found other general transcription companies but they didn't seem to be hiring. I've heard of other freelance transcription sites where you have to bid for jobs against other transcriptionists and that sounded like a big hassle.

The people at Fox have all been nice and easy to work with, software works smoothly, etc.

[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you for your reply. The only MTs critical of this type of work are the few who are still working regularly. BUT, like I said...they will be joining the rest of us who are out of work and tired of the MT game!
Thanks for the encouragement!
If what they say is true (sm) - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
...that the pay is so much better elsewhere, then great! However, how about sharing something helpful like the NAMES of these companies? I think the people making these comments are genuinely trying to be helpful, but something tells me their information was true maybe 5-6 years ago but isn't so much today. If I am wrong, please let me know, WITH SPECIFIC INFORMATION, please. I would seriously love to be wrong and make twice the pay.

Yeah, I used to make great money as an MT, then WebMedX got bought out by Nuance (I left before that happened since I was regularly losing 20 hours a paycheck due to low work). It's just common sense to find some backup work and not rely 100% on an MT paycheck. I'd much rather find some pickup work for $12-15 an hour than come here every day bitching about how I ran out of work yet again.
That's not a true statement... - this is what I do for a living sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I also do WC MT and legal. I saw an ad yesterday advertising for CLEAR audio TWO-SPEAKER interviews starting at 60 a/h. I have plenty of work, but these companies are out there. You just have to look and go to the non-medical forums. O-desk and those other types of bid sites are mainly cheapskate people wanting off-shore wages for crap work. There are so many companies that have good-paying work, not like Fox - you just have to step out of the MT box to look for it.
again - specifics? (sm) - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
Fox charges the clients $60 an audio hour; $.60 an audio hour comes out $36 an audio hour paid to the transcriptionist.

Again, "I saw an ad yesterday" is not specific information. A link to the ad you are referring to is. Thanks! (BTW, I did look look into VerbalInk and asked about it here but I got no responses. Was going to apply there but I didn't have time to futz around with my resume).
duh (sm) - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
I meant $0.60 a *minute* is $36 an audio hour.

Since KS is so picky about training my first paycheck was only for three days. Everything's up to speed now, but in the meantime, working at Fox meant I could pay my credit card and all my utility bills without dipping into savings. Working there I've made an extra $600-$800 a month. I really don't have any problems with them and I really value the flexibility.
I have spent the better part of 3 days searching - do tell
[ In Reply To ..]
every "non-MT" forum I can find, multiple, multiple sites and looked at multiple companies and I've yet to find a single company paying what you state. I haven't given up, but I think the companies of which you speak are harder to find than you seem to think. Most that I've looked at are only charging clients $1 to $2 an audio minute. As the other poster stated, I'd love to see a link to one of these higher-paying jobs.
mtstars - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
I did see an ad right here on mtstars for Babbletype, which says they pay $1 per audio minute transcribed (so $60/audio hour for the transcriptionist).

They weren't very clear on how they handled scheduling and assigning work and I saw bad things about them in the mtstars archives (bad audio quality, etc.). With Fox you can pick and choose your assignments and listen to the audio before claiming a job.
Sorry, I was referring to the higher paying jobs the (sm) - do tell
[ In Reply To ..]
other poster, "this is what I do for a living" mentioned in her post.
I think the issue (sm) - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
...is that maybe people are reluctant to share the names of companies that pay well and have lots of work for fear of the market getting flooded and the work drying up.

I also think a lot of general transcription companies don't directly advertise what they pay right on their website, you have to apply first and talk to them and negotiate and whatnot. So I'm gonna give that a try. I've updated my resume and I'm sending out e-mails. In the meantime, Fox meets my needs pretty well.
Raise - someone
[ In Reply To ..]
Hey. I'm applying for a position with FT.

I read that they pay $.50 per audio minute (and this can increase by up to 50%). I was wondering if they've ever given you a raise in the 3 months you've worked for them.

Thanks.
pay - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
I actually always made $0.60 an audio minute based on my testing and experience. The ad I saw in April originally had a pay range from $0.35 to $0.60 an audio minute; the newer one looks like they just pay everyone $0.50.

So I'm guessing $0.60 is the top range and I'm at that so I wasn't offered any raise. It's true that you can make a 50% bonus; this is an incentive to get people working on jobs that are very late. So it won't be true for every job, but the opportunity for 50% bonus on certain jobs will be available immediately, you don't have to wait or "earn" it.
Re:pay - someone

I see. Thanks a lot for the thorough response. I appreciate it.
Would love more info from current employee - Alec
[ In Reply To ..]
I completed the testing and sent information and now just waiting for a response. I am wondering how many hours you work on average? I know it sounds like you can work any hours you want, but do you let them know that ahead of time, just pick up work at any time, you want, etc.? Also, is it correct that they pay weekly? Very interested in finding out more from someone who is satisfied in their job and could provide additional information.
answer - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
Yep, you just pick up work whenever you want, you don't have to give them any kind of notice of when you're available. Lately they've been sending e-mails begging people to work but if you don't have time, you don't have time. I work maybe 10-15 hours a week?

Yes, they really pay every week on Monday, usually late afternoon. It takes two days to transfer from Paypal to my bank account, so the money is available to me on Wednesday.

Be sure to set aside about four hours for every one hour of recording to make sure you can get it done. Easier files will be quicker. I use lots of expansions in Microsoft Word (autocorrect) to help with my speed.
Just started and wondering about New Hire paperwork - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
They haven't asked for my proof of identity or SS# for tax purposes or anything. The other place I contract with asked for all the usual new hire stuff, so I'm wondering why Fox Transcribe didn't require anything whatsoever from me. Was this your experience as well?
sm - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, that's right. That means you're an independent contractor and you'll owe more at tax time (in the meantime it means more $$ 'cuz no taxes are taken out).
What about a W9? - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
The other place I contract with required a W9...
sm - New @ KS
[ In Reply To ..]
Nope, I didn't get any paperwork. Is it really that weird? I had another independent contractor job years ago and I don't think I had any paperwork with her other than sending a time sheet/lines produced. No official tax documents.

I meant to ask them about it and never did; let me know what you hear if you do. You could go by your Paypal statements to fill out your taxes.

Thank you so much for the information. It is appreciated. I currently do both medical and nonmedical and am looking for something to supplement my income. I have been doing this for 20 years and type well over 110 WPM with excellent accuracy, but the truth of the matter is that medical transcription is phasing out more and more and am looking at losing possibly 2 positions in the near future. The dictators on the test were great, and I had no problem at all, so I am excited and hope to hear back from them. Thank you again for the information!
Fox Audio - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
The nice thing about Fox is that you can listen to the audio before you actually claim the job. The other place I contract with requires you to claim the job before you can listen to the audio, so you never know what you're getting. Good luck :)

Dont like PayPal - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I dont like getting paid by PayPal at all. PayPal charges you to transfer your money to another account, so you are working for a little less than what you think. I finally told my one job that was paying that way, I would rather risk a paper check than do that anymore.

I'm not charged any fee by PayPal - New @ KS
