Nuance or Amphion..... - smeeps

Posted: Apr 13, 2013

I have had the interview with Ampion as was said in my previous message.  I've got a good feeling about it.  Last night, I get an email from Nuance that I passed their testing and they want to speak to me about a possible position.  What to do......Undecided

my opinion - been there

In the recent past I worked for Amphion... acute care, not radiology, so unsure how that compares. I was promised a large acute care account with plenty of work... went nja within 30 days.. offered to learn a new account...which continued to happen for 5 months. I learned 5 accounts in as many months and was continually nja. Additionally, in acute care, they only pay VBC (no pay for spaces).

Again, people were great there.. just never enough work.

Amphion or Nuance, the lesser of 2 evils - anon

Go to the Nuance board. That may help you decide. I don't know anything about Amphion, but Nuance will probably gobble them up soon. My experience has not been good.

One thing I have Noticed - smeeps

Nuance ALWAYS has an ad here, and to me, that's not good.
Nuance has ads EVERYwhere, all over the net! NM - Glad I left!

.

Exactly my experience, except I only lasted 2 months. Nicey-nice - people, terrible overstaffing of accounts. nm

Amphion - MLS

I would choose Amphion. They are very very organized. They give you handbooks, QA manuals, account instructions. You hardly have to ask anything because they give you written details about everything.

As with all MT companies, be aware of the production requirements. Anything less than 35 hours a week is part-time for Amphion. Work 34 hours and then have parttime production requirements. Once you get to where you are meeting the adjusted 10,000 per pay period line requirement, move to a full time employee. That way you stay away from them dogging you for production. Once you are off their starting wage, your production will always have to be above your state's minimum wage. Learn/orient the first month, the second month work hard on getting to production.

If you are quality type person, you will not have problems with QA. Once you are released to work w/o proofing they don't bother you. You get a once monthly QA report.

To me, Nuance is only as a last resort. Too many horror stories floating about them.

I said I 'needed' 24 hours to think about it.

Taking The Plunge, Couldn't Resist The Schedule(nothing from Amphion) - smeeps
[ In Reply To ..]
We'll see how it goes. The lady at Amphion never got back to me even after stating she would yesterday "ASAP". They do seem like a great company. On to this next chapter, hope it's a decent one.
I just accepted with them too - mainly based on schedule - lope

The pay is no worse than any other service is paying for employee status, and it just has to carry me through my EKG tech training. I got a schedule of Tu to Sat 6 am to 2 pm - which is perfect for me.
pay - been there

keep in mind though the pay is the same as others around... they do not pay for spaces, only VBC. Even with what they call their adjusted lines (?? a line is a line is it not??) I never recouped the loss of for only VBC pay. I am a seasoned MT, 10+ years experience working for MTSOs, so lack of production based skill was not an issue. Literally translated to at least a $2 hour loss. Good luck to you though. Keep in mind too... I was promised a great schedule, just with the NJA on all 5 accounts I was working throughout the week anyway.

Hope it works better for you. Keep us posted
I know about the VBC sm - lope

I am doing a small IC job right now while I was looking and I compared a half day's worth of work counting with and without spaces and headers. It looks like about the same as you said. I have 13 years experience and just was laid off from an hourly job, so it seems like even with the VBC I should be able to make almost the same per-hour rate I was and no commute - provided I don't get NJA and don't get jacked around on five accounts. I hope I understand correctly, but the recruiter explained the adjusted line thing and said that is only used to calculate production for full/part time status, not for pay, that each and every line is paid as a regular 65-char VBC but 1.5 edited lines is counted as a line for production calculation purposes. I hope I understand that correctly, because if I see it being paid on adjusted line I won't be sticking around.

It is really my only decent offer right now, so I will give it the old college try and stick around to answer questions in the future.
OOPS, please ignore this...thought you went with Amphion - been there too

Feel free to email me, I actually work at Amphion as an MT/editor. A lot of the info posted here is bogus.
so if you disagree with with an opinion its bogus? - been there

I did work for Amphion, I did train on 5 accounts in as many months and had 3-4 jobs in my queue from 4 different accounts at one time. Trust me, my experience was not bogus. Great it works for you, it did not for me and others, but unlike you I realize everyone does not have the same experiences with companies, although I don't call their experience a lie.

Different companies work for different people. IMHO, you should try it. Maybe it will be just what you are looking for. If not, you have not lost anything except a little time. We are all so different and have different needs and opinions. What might work for me would not work for you and vice versa. I say, give it a go! (BTW, I know nothing about the company, good, bad, or indifferend). Good luck!

Looking for feedback both negative and positive on these three companies.  I have been hired by one and have interviews with the other two.  Two of the companies are strictly  VR and one is straight typing.  I am looking for pros and cons on VR versus straight typing, how QA personnel are to work with, difficult dictation, and whether or not the work is steady. Thank you for anything you have to offer.  ...

Is Amphion Part Of Nuance?
Sep 12, 2013

I work for Amphion and I'm generally happy with it. That said, I've seen on here before that Amphion is part of Nuance. Then in one of my emails recently I saw the name Nuance mentioned (in reference to workload). Is that true? That kinda makes me a little uneasy seeing that MM and N are the top two undesirables (that's putting it nicely). I've read through the Nuance postings and see alot of negative comments and I am wondering if some of that applies to Amphion MTs too. My ...

Amphion Or TTS - Affiliated With Nuance?

Both these are hiring for less than 40 hours a week.  See pros and cons for both.  I had seen where TTS uses Nuance's QA?  Nuance grid system is just what I want to get away from. Comparison of the 2 companies appreciated. Considered SoftScript, but see there is no way in *^*&^ to get any day shift hours even with splitting part 1st shift and part 2nd or 3rd. ...

Amphion Or Nuance? Lesser Of 2 Evils....
Apr 15, 2015

I am wondering if there are any current Amphion employees out there that can give me an idea what it is like over there? Pay, accounts, platform? I tested with them yesterday but then saw some poor reviews on another site. I currently work for Nuance and am wondering if just staying with what I know might be better, or should I try to do both part-time until something else comes along??? I am wanting to get into coding but have to bide my time until I can pay for school, which is why I applied f ...

Q For Amphion MTs
Sep 29, 2010

Anyone ever get fired from Amphion for not meeting line requirements? I work for them FT or more as needed and have yet to make the 12,000 line requirement. I've been with them for 6 months now and have not heard a peep about it. My QA is meeting requirements and my attendance is excellent, but I have yet to make the line count. I've switched my schedule, asked for another team, another account, work extra, racked my brain, all to no answer or just "no". I'm not sure what to do a ...
