Nuance - Anyone else having discrepancy in hours worked? - Anon

Posted: Nov 23, 2011

Over the last two pay periods, at the end of the period, the amount of hours they tell me I worked is extremely low compared to the hours that I actually worked. Last pay period, prior to "approving my time card", the total amount of hours they calculated that I worked over a two week period was 12 hours!!!! When in reality I had worked 36 hours. When I emailed my supervisor, as usual it took three days for her to answer and by then, she had already approved my time card because I hadn't. She said that my hours matched up to the hours that I was typing in the system which in no way could have been accurate. I was told to keep a written log of my hours, but how is that going to help when it all comes down to my word against theirs....any advice?

Yes, exact same problem but.... - Nuance employee

My TL calls me out on it all the time and I don't have an answer. I had one pay period where I worked overtime and had worked 86 hours but my system hours showed up as like 62 hours and I was reprimanded and told that I should not be logged in if I'm not working only for the short time it takes to check e-mail or go to the bathroom. I emailed her back and told her that there was no way I could have possibly done the lines that I have in the system in 62 hours. That was over a half a weeks amount of work and somehow the system must be flawed. I'm sorry you are having this problem but at the same time glad to know I'm not the only one.

Does this have anything to do with making sure - your actual hours SM

compared to your lines actually shows you making minimum wage or below? I know this happens at other companies, which in my opinion is illegal.

Agree - Mt2

Happens at my company too. I was told by HR that the time worked needs to equal minimum wage payment. This way they do not get in trouble for you sitting there waiting for work, or for making so little on speech editing. As well, if you notice, it keeps you very part-time which will nullify your benefits in case you want any. Sorry to say this but it is true. And you really can't say anything b/c they have burden of proof on their side since you work at home and they calculate time worked as system time. So to get the hours you sit there you'd have to be typing every second you sit there. That is impossible b/c you are a person, not a machine.

Aha!!! that explains why I didn't show any PTO accrual. They had me logged in as under 50 hours when I "thought" I had worked 80. Better get better about timing out for phone calls, putting in a roast, taking out a load of laundry, etc. I know I am bad about that, so I guess they are correct in penalizing me for it.

How are you doing on line count? I have found that the only way I can get anywhere close to the required amount of lines per hour is to be totally obsessed with punching in and out for every little thing that takes me away from typing.

I think I am wasting more time than I thought. I keep my play computer on the same desk and I think I jump on and off facebook too much. Better turn that screen off and discipline myself or I will never qualify for benefits. Thanks for heads up. My manager would probably be getting on me about this soon, at least now I kinda know what I am doing wrong and can start fixing it first.
I bet atty skilled in employement law could tell you how to - get around this and SM

document your real hours worked so you dont have to be part of their illegal activity.
So are we supposed to log off time clock when the q is empty? - blondie
[ In Reply To ..]
I was told to log off the time clock when I run out of work. In other words, they don't pay for sitting there with no work or waiting for work, which sucks. So does everybody else log off or stay logged in?
How about if we start documenting our real work time - and trading e-mail addresses privately? NM

I read - sm

I read on another forum that when the MT checked her lines, they actually showed negative! Better make sure there is not a glitch in the system.

Yep happened here too - blondie

Last pay period I had 30 hours. I didn't work a whole lot those 2 weeks, had moved and all that. Well it had 27 hours on their end. I thought I must be nuts but I am pretty good at keeping up with my hours on the log in site. So I dunno.

The way it will work is when you file lawsuit, do you - think they are going to want to SM

bring their bogus records to court? Will be easy enough to see the times the jobs were done/submitted. And if that is a period of time strung over 12-16 hours when their "records" showed you just worked an 8 hour shift, should be a no-brainer as to who is in the right. YOU!!

Required to clock in only production time - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
My employer requires that we only clock in time our fingers are on the keyboard, which does not include time looking for account rules or looking up anything, just solely production time. So it is easy to work 30 hours for a 20-hour a week position, etc.

Nuance Hours/lines Discrepancy
Nov 30, 2011

There was a post last week on Nuance pay discrepancies. I had a 3 hour discrepancy, didn't think too much of it. I thought maybe I made a mistake. This time it is a 5 hour discrepancy. I know I didn't make a 5 hour mistake on my time punches. My lines are not what they should be either. I am about to find another job. I don't make enough as it is without being shorted. Did anyone else notice this with this last pay period? ...

Has anyone noticed a reduction in lines? I completed 2 speech documents this moring. ESL, but not terrible. I copied/pasted the body text (no headers/footers) into blank Word document and ran the Word Properties after each was completed. Together there were 13,375 keystrokes (VBC + spaces), and divided by 65 the total was 205.76923 lines. However, when I went to IChart I was only credited with completing 149.38 lines. As before, the dictation was not difficult and I typed at least 80 wpm. When I signed off I had transcribed 525 lines ...

Webmedx SR Line Counts Discrepancy
Oct 14, 2010

I apologize to sound like an Webmedx complainer. Not my intent, but I am extremely concerned regarding the SR jobs I'm transcribing and receiving correct compensation. The way I understand it, an SR/VR draft report already has a tallied line count when it goes to an MT and if during the course of your edit, you delete lines, the line count always reflects this by being less, it does not stay at the original SR drafted line count. Makes sense, and I have no issues with th ...
