Need info on legit corporate transcription companies - ZvilleMT

I have a friend that would like to get into doing transcription so she can stay home with her kids. She's done transcription before, but never medical. I've done some research for her, but it's hard to tell which companies are legit or not. Does anyone know of any companies that have corporate transcription and pay decently, other than Ubiqus, which isn't hiring right now?

Most companies now are looking for guaranteed numbers per shift, which she might find very hard to do with kids at home. It's not easy trying to listen to dictation, do the research and maintain high quality with constant interruptions from babies/children. Having said that, I don't know of any corporate transcription companies. Good luck to her!

If you want to keep that friend don't direct her toward medical transcription. The bigger companies you see on MTJobs are all global and in the process of shuffling all their work to India. They don't give a flying fig about their employees here in the USA. Your friend will not find any quality time with her family because she'll spend 8 or more hours a day waiting for nonexistent work to populater her screen and the pay is per line, below poverty level. Talk her out of it.

I've been dissuading others from working in this "profession." As one person wrote, it's "circling the drain" and is mostly unstable with very ruthless and greed-driven businesses calling most of the shots and setting the unfortunate example. If anything, entering this profession leads to turmoil at home and high amounts of stress.

Had a family member, who was an extremely talented MT; however, the company she worked for didn't approve of the number of interruptions she experienced due to her young children. They told her to either find day care for them or quit, and she quit.

If you can work for a non-corporate business, jump at the chance. That's the way the profession used to be - privately owned. Corporations need to satisfy stockholders, directors, upper management, middle management and lower management first. The best way to do that is outsource and cut salaries of those producing income. I recently found this. I haven't applied anywhere yet (sprucing up my resume), but a good majority of these companies look ok. I'm not sure how up-to-date the list actually is, as I found a few dead links, but the blog itself is not stagnant.

It's a start at least.

WordZXpressed does some auto insurance transcription, claims adjuster interviews with usually just 2 people talking in question/answer style so not like doing panels or meetings where everybody is talking at once, no funky terminology. Pay is 7 or 7.5 per line, but the work is pretty easy and pay is every other week and on time. I think it is an IC position, but that may have changed. Lots of work available on that account - don't know if they are hiring right now, but wouldn't hurt to check. Nice people there.

I think the email we got from L. yesterday (on a Sunday!) was really overboard. She said the were " tired " of work being out of TAT on the weekends.
