Looking for current feedback on transcription companies - TMiller

Posted: Jan 01, 2015

I worked for MedQuist for over 10 yrs and then decided to take a little break, which I did.  I'm thinking about going back to work in medical transcription from home and would appreciate any current feedback you can give me on companies to avoid or that you recommend.  Thanks! Smile

company reviews - TMiller

So are you saying that none of them are worth working for?

I am the first poster - see msg

I am the one who asked if you were just needing to make extra money. I asked that because obviously MT does not pay much anymore and I was going to recommend doing IC work if you don't need the insurance. I honestly cannot recommend any as I have only worked for a couple. And the one I work for now, I cannot mention on here, plus its small and they aren't hiring so it would be pointless. I am an IC. Maybe try reading here on the company boards and see what companies are out there then do a search on them or post and ask for specific info regarding those companies. I wish I could be of more help, but I am just trying to hang on long enough to hopefully get through a training program. I forgot to mention though that I do work for iMedx part-time, cannot say what they are like since I am just getting started. Good luck with your search. MT does not pay much anymore and whatever you do, try to apply with places that pay for spaces since pay is already low enough, you need every little bit you can get.
Are you recommending IC work because - it pays more per line?

I'm not the OP, but am curious. I am barely making minimum wage at Nuance and I don't want their health insurance.

I'm wondering if IC pays more per line but just no medical, no retirement benefits? Thanks in Advance.
In most cases yes. - see msg

it depends on who you work for. At iMedx I only make 8/4 for IC part-time. But my full-time job I make 9 cpl straight typing. There are quit a few companies out there that do pay more for IC, I have seen many advertising on MT jobs when I was looking for part-time work. I dont know about NEMT transcription, but they had an ad a few weeks back and United is currently hiring IC and employee according to their website. I really dont know of a lot of companies off the top of my head.

My husband is disabled and we qualified for the Obamacare so I currently am not paying anything for the insurance I have. That may change next year when they reevaluate my income based on what happens when I finish school. Good luck though. I just prefer IC because yes, the option is there to make a little more in most cases and I like the flexibility that comes with it. I would assume just about any company out there would be better than Nuance based on what I've read on their board lately. I would be so stressed with their pay plan if I worked there.
PS - The idea behind IC is that they dont have pay health insurance - & taxes, so its SUPPOSE to be more based on that.

You can't base it all on the opinions of others - sm

Just find out who is hiring and search that specific company on here, but beware that just because someone else may not like a company, doesn't mean that you wouldn't be happy there.

Five years ago, there was a company hiring on this job board and the rate was lower than most and so many MTs posted rants about it being "slave wages" and how if a person worked for that, they were a "disgrace to the MT field" etc. Well, I really needed a job, so I applied and got the job. Now, five years later, I still work for the company and we still do straight typing with no plans to transition to VR. I have gotten two raises in those five years, which may not seem like a lot, but I am probably make more per line than most companies pay at this point and I make a decent living, for sure.

So, just try them out, go with your gut and good luck.

Very positive feedback! - Nice for a change...

Thanks everyone for your 2 cents. I used to work for MQ as an MME and was making much less when I decided to quit than when I first started, which was sad. I'm just thinking part time, as we have good group health insurance through my husband's company. I loved the work, just got burnt out from the last supervisor I had (all the others were great), with her refusing any kind of time off that hadn't been approved at least 2-3 months earlier, and even then it was pretty iffy on getting it approved. I worked split shifts, so it was hard to get away or get a break from it at all.

nice wage - minmouse

For the one making a decent wage, that is the exception to the rule, if I found a job like that, I wouldn't leave either, but I just wanted to point out, no you can make a decision based on the opinion of the others, but do you honestly think that people on this board are just ranting on for nothing? This is for real This is the life for more than half of MTs now. I wish I was imagining the disrespect and lack of pay at these MTSO services, but I'm not and neither are the others. I've only worked at 3 MTSO services and honestly, one of the three was the best, because at least we got like an $800 bonus at the end of the year, but they got sold to an Indian service, the other transcription service got brought out too and the one I work at now is the WORST! Luckily, I am starting a new job soon and will say good-bye to transcription all together. Please do not be rude back. I am just stating what others are experiencing, and actually I use to never post on this board but now since I have a new job, I feel okay posting what it is really like to be an MT with an MTSO in America! Certainly is different from when I started approximately 20 years ago. I had planned to retire in transcription and work part-time when retired.

Negative Feedback Regarding Augusta Coding And Transcription
May 09, 2012

I have been reading all of the negative feedback about Augusta Coding and Transcription and I am so upset.  I have been with this company for almost two years and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  They have been the most flexible and easiest people to work with in the world.  There are monthly fees for platform and direct deposit, about $13 per pp,  but that is what being an Independent Contractor is all about.  I have not worked for a company yet that doesnt charge anything. ...
