Good and transcription company - an oxymoron? NM - shipwrecked

I thought this OP was on a different board... - ???
[ In Reply To ..]
I could've sworn this was originally posted on the Main Board that's why I said to check the Company Board. Apparently I was right. Oh well.
Anyway, I guess in answer to OP, maybe if he/she asks about a specific company, not just a "good" one, then maybe we could answer better.
that's why you should always use the password and give yourself - the option to delete. NM

I can hardly wait to be rid of this mess called MT. I just need another month or so to finish school and then I can send in my resignation letter to my nasty evil MTSO. I am starting to count the days! :)

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do now that MT has fallen so far from what it used to be. What can I do with my fund of medical terminology knowledge but no degree?

I am studying coding. A lot of people on this board are saying that what happened to MT can/will happen to coding. I guess only time will tell. I know I am not cut out for any type of hands-on patient care, so nursing, ultrasound tech, etc., were just not options for me. I sure wish I had gone to pharmacy school so many years ago, but it's definitely too late now!
Anyway, I've been in coding school for about a year now and it has definitely not been easy, especially while continuing to work as an MT. I have already passed the CPC and I am currently studying for the CCS. Good luck to you!
Thanks so much - CaliMT

for the information. As a matter of fact, I was just over on the Coding Board checking it out for information.
I know what you mean about not wanting to do hands-on patient care. I went to nursing school eons ago, and I didn't enjoy patient care so I quit and ended up working as a pharmacy tech (back before you had to be licensed to do it). I enjoyed that a lot and considered going to pharmacy school, but I got pregnant before I expected to and wanted to stay home with the baby...you know how that goes. So eventually, I became an MT and hoped that it would last me until I retired, but it's not a viable choice anymore. If coding will stick around for another 10 or 15 years, that would be all I need. I'm going to check out the AHIMA site for salary and job information.
I hope you've enjoyed your studies and that you get a great paying job! I hate to see MT going downhill, but it's time for me to stop complaining about it and start doing something productive. Congratulations on your initiative. I wish you the best!

It is on their website ... www.aapc.com.
You do want to consider working in settings other than just hospitals. The job market is larger outside hospitals. It is more likely to consider inexperienced, yet credentialed, coders. AAPC focuses more on outpatient coders, while AHIMA focuses more on hospital.
Coder salaries are good. There is a shortage of coders, too.
This is good to know...sm - CaliMT

Thanks for the information. I will check their website, too. I'm finding it difficult to decide where I want to go from here. I do love transcription, but with the pitiful pay now, I can't continue to do this. I'm an IC, and I'm beginning to lose clients to the EHR. Soon, I expect that all of them will have one, and then I will be forced to work for a national. I've tried that and didn't like it at all because none of them respond to my e-mails or fix the problems with their programs that are costing me time and money. And in the search that I made over the weekend, I saw that many of them are now only offering 6 cents a line! That's ridiculous and insulting. So I'm off to check out coding sites and jobs to see how that stacks up. Thanks again!

Good Companies Out There??? Jan 06, 2012Are there truly any good companies out there??? I can't begin to tell you how many I have been through in the last couple of years. I finally thought I found a good home with JLG, been with them since August and for the most part been pretty content. Then, we got bought out and guess by who, MQ! Now I have been with MQ before, twice! And both times leaving because I was not happy with their CHANGES! And here I am once again grandfathered in due to the buy out.

Any Good Companies Out There? Oct 13, 2012I have been working for an excellent company for seven years. Unfortunately, they were put out of business by a bunch of poachers from one of the national MTSOs. We were well paid and treated like gold. Now I'm scrambling trying to get applications out, but nearly every company I have considered has turned out to have at least two horror stories about not getting paid, being underpaid, mistreated employees, etc. Is anybody out there having a good experience? Does anybody have first-hand kno ...

Any Good IC Companies Out There? Dec 08, 2013Can anyone recommend a good IC? I'm concerned that my company is surreptitiously cutting my pay by manipulating the software. Are There Any Good Companies Out There? Jan 05, 2014For the past two years, I have worked for a terriffic company, caring, pay on time, etc. Am I bragging? No, the hospitals have been switching over to a Dragon based system and little by little the work is dwindling to the point there has been a 60% layoff. MY problem, are there any GOOD companies out there? I am so afraid as I am the sole support of my household to start with a company and not get paid, have no work. I read this board constantly and hope I don& ...
Good Companies And Bad Ones.. May 21, 2015I see posts on here from time to time complaining about employers. Granted, some employers are worse than others and some are just plain bad. However, I think we get so wrapped up in "ourselves" and what we want, that we forget to take a lot of things into consideration when we are up on our soapbox in a public, yet "anonymous" forum. Let's just get it straight here - there are no "perfect" companies -- just like there are no "perfect" individuals - but there are some comp ...
There Are Good Companies To Work For! Jan 19, 2011There is sooo much negative here that I just felt the need to say that there are good companies to work for. I always have plenty of work, my supervisor is polite, caring, and understanding. I love my job! And before anyone asks, NO, I will not give out the name of the company, because I don't want them being overwhelmed with emails and phone calls. Yes, I did look for this position for over a year, and worked for one not so nice company and two wonderful companies that just were not a matc ...

Any Good Companies Hiring Out There? Mar 19, 2013Are there any good MT companies out there any longer that actually pay something that we can live on? I know all about the "if you want to earn more, work more" deal but honestly, the pay has depreciated so much you would have to work 12 hours a day to make what I used to make in 8. Didn't go to school and get into this field of work 15 years ago to make less than a waitress. Any good companies out there? ...
Any Good Companies Left Out There? Apr 05, 2013I've been in the MT business for 7 years now. After being let go for low workload from my last company I was lucky enough to take the last 4 months off but now feeling the crunch and need to get back. Any Good Companies Left? May 07, 2013Are there ANY good companies out there? I only see negative about every single company that is hiring. Seriously, only negative. Can We Share The 'good' MT Companies To Work With Please!?! Mar 08, 2010I've been following the company and job seekers board for quite some time now, and seriously having a hard time staying positive/focused on finding a decent MT job! About Those Good-to-work-for Small Companies -- Mar 08, 2012Having most recently been at MDI, which sold to Transcend, and now is being bought by Nuance -- I am really bummed. Discouraged...are There Legit Good Companies Out There Jan 13, 2015I'm certainly getting discouraged by reading more and more on this board. I used to work for MModal when it was Medquist and they seem just as bad on here. TTS has bad reviews. Seriously other than working at an office, which simply isn't feasible for me, are there any reputable, legit companies out there? I went to the job seeker's board, but it seems it's all FT, or Nuance/TTS/MModal.
Glad I kept my other job, but I had wanted a little extra i ...
