List of companies that hire "true" IC? - ScheduledOut

Posted: Sep 16, 2014

Searching in vain for companies that hire IC status with no scheduled/required hours, only requiring a certain number of lines within a 12 hour or 24 hour period.  They seem hard to come by these days.  Really need that kind of flexibility.  Thank you, in advance, for your input Sealed

it that way with RecordsOne on October 1. The down side is that work seems to be a bit sparse lately, so not sure how much work they can provide.

Yes, Inscribe does and they are hiring right now with a $250 sign on bonus.

RIDICULOUS TESTING - wk

They have that test like that to see who can follow directions. I took it and passed and thought it was detailed oriented, but that way they can weed out people who do not follow directions. They said that tons of people fail.

I have been reading some old posts about them, and much of it is unfavorable. As I said, though, they are old posts. Hopefully things have improved. I've been thinking of applying, but would like to hear from someone who works for them now. Thanks!

to read current posts. There is a lot that has been posted regarding this company, a lot of it not that old either.

I had used the "search" function and it brought up really old stuff. My bad. I am definitely not looking to supplement my income - I worked for OTI, and landed on the side that's not with the sisters. Looking for something at least decent part-time, more like full-time. I guess I may be one of those folks who has to look outside the career field. Maybe it's just the push I need, I don't know yet. Thanks, anyway.

I can only tell you of my recent experience with them. They search out resumes posted either here or elsewhere. They ask you to test. Yes, their test is difficult. In fact, I was told it was created that way deliberately, and only those who passed it were offered a position because by the time you got to HR, they knew you were a good MT. Here's the problem. I was offered a position, I accepted. I am a good and seasoned MT. However, the hospital account they put me on out of AZ was on a hospital platform created at the beginning of time that I do not care how experienced you are, you could not make a living. Then, there is the Blast Room. My TL was wonderful, QA was responsive, and they were a bunch of wonderful people. However, here is the rub. The account I was on was always out of TAT. Emails were overwhelming to get on and work. Then, there were the emails from Dani, the owner, too many times threatening, sent broadcast to everyone who had no need to know. My feeling was she should stay out of it and leave it to her managers like most MTSOs. I could understand how MTs were burned out, not getting on, making no money, but being harassed to get on and work. My account had some of the worst dictators I have ever come across in my career. When I first started, I was lucky after 9 to 10 hours to make $15.00. I am serious!

I may need a job, but as an IC, to make $15.00 for 9 to 10 hours because of the sorry platform(s), horrible dictators, blast room, and account specs was something I could not hang in for. It was not a hard decision for me to quit after a few weeks. As someone else said, there is a reason for the low minimum of 800 of lines per pay period.
Thanks so much - anon

I appreciate you taking a minute to tell me about your experience. Sounds like a horror story! I'll be steering clear of them. I hope you've found someone much more pleasant (and profitable) to work for since then!

Unless you just want a couple dollars here and there, RUN - FROM THIS COMPANY

[ In Reply To ..]
Unorganized management, changing the rules daily or at the whim of the owner. They say they pay on a tiered structure, but it is VERY difficult to make lines even for seasoned MTs because they use so many different platforms per report, and the bottom tier only pays 6.5 cpl for IC. Can't send blanks to QA without asking someone in messenger to listen to your voice file first.

If you're only working to give yourself something to do because you miss MT, this is the job for you. If you need to pay your bills, don't waste your time.

I was hired not long ago, and my sign-up bonus was $50.00. Also, they are not true IC. They do not pay you for all of the work you do for them in researching, meetings, or reading, etc. I have never been to a place that does not pay for all of the work you do.

I'm an IC - and my contract

[ In Reply To ..]
specifies a 24-TAT. I agreed to that.

I've hired ICs. We agree that something will be done within a given period of time. I know that unforseeable circumstances arise, and otherwise I expect them to keep to our agreement.

Is There Any Truth To A No-hire Black List?
Mar 19, 2014

I have worked for 20+ years with two companies and had good reviews and made good money.  No problems with meeting production.  Left one of the big 2 companies last January after pay cuts, nothing nasty, I just kindly and sincerely expressed my opinion why I was leaving.  Since then I've applied with 3 or 4 other companies, was told by one I was on *do not hire list*, but was never given a reason why.  Is there something I can do here?  I'm a good employee and ...

Why Don't The Big Companies Want To Hire
May 31, 2010

part-timers for weekend work anymore?  That's the way it was done for years, full-timers for M-F and part-timers for weekends, and it worked great because so many MTs are looking for extra weekend part-time work anyway.  It seems to be mostly the bigger corporations, as usual, changing things for the worse here.  Is it just the laziness of the HR & management people, not wanting to process part-timers?  I suspect a lot of the very-experienced MTs are working at small ...

Any Companies Hire M-F?
May 15, 2014

I know this is an extreme long-shot, but I'm wondering if there are any good MT companies out there that hire M-F and pay a fair line rate (for the way things are today anyway). It doesn't matter to me whether I work employee or IC. I just left Nuance a couple months ago and am working general transcription on my own schedule right now, but it's way too strenuous for the pay rate and the work is sporadic. I've got to figure out my next move, but I hate to go back to working e ...

Will Companies Hire A New MT From Careerstep

Are There Any Companies Still Out There That Hire For Straight Typing?

Short Cut For List Punctuation In A Drug List? (Fluency)
Dec 06, 2014

Is there is quick way to add commas between items in a list? Of course, using Ctl K in front a word will change the punctuation, but it will also change a capitalized drug to lower case, and you will still have to get to the beginning of the next drug which will require 2 Ctl arrows and backspace. Ctl arrow takes you to the beginning of the next word, but you will have to backspace to put in the comma. Adding punctuation to lists is so time consuming! ...
