that they are hiring at 7.5 cpl when just 2-3 years ago I got a job there I started at 9 cpl. Why dose it seem that this is one of the only profession where wages go down over the years instead of up???

They can get away with it! They can lower wages and still get a 100 resumes a day from MTs who need work or newbies who will do anything to start out (which I can sympathize with). Unfortunately in troubled financial times and no decent MT jobs left in the hospitals or in an office or even with a service, they all do this. I have worked for 3-1/2 years for a company and it is all transcription, all American docs, no QA bullying, but I make 8 cpl (as an IC) and have never or will ever see a raise, incentive, weekend differential, nighttime diff, no PTO, and I am happy to have a job! I have chosen to do this and have taken what they offer. I do know this is it for me; no more big companies, have been there and tried that. When this company goes, I will be forced to find something else. It is truly sad and I know most MTs really love what they do and enjoy transcription and each and every one of these companies have destroyed that. We should all quit and let them fend for themselves at their 7.5 cpl.

Factually saying there are no 'decent' MT jobs left is incorrect, plus whose definition of decent? Some MTs tolerate working lower pay, I am not. Company I am IC with pays over 8 cents, straight typing, and there are production bonuses available up to 10 cents a line. (6500+ for 2 week period). It took me 4 years to get settled in my current situation.

It is more difficult to find a good paying MT job now but not impossible. It's what a person's level of comfort is.

Saying there are no decent MT jobs out there is like saying there are no decent guys out there because we chose the not-so-good-guy and got burned.

Bad-mouthing the MT career in general leaves me a bit discouraged and puzzled. It's not a one-size-fits-all.

I had to quit each for various reasons. My current job only pays 8 cpl, but I make much more per hour than I did at either of those jobs because of the ease of the account and the repetitive doctors. Unfortunately, my account is now going to EMR, so going to lose it soon. So I went back to my prior companies to see about getting my job back and they now only pay 7 cpl. No thank you!! When I lose the current MT position I have, I am out of MT for good. Not right at all. I was okay with not getting a raise these past 7 years even as my cost of living has increased, but I am not going to take a pay cut. Can't afford to. I don't know how anyone lives off MT wages these days. We have moved to a lower cost of living area and downsized our home and are still barely making it. We can't cut anymore. Time to move on and put my energy and skills to use elsewhere, somewhere they are appreciated.

I basically work nonstop - I have no life, my health is declining, my tailbone hurts so bad to sit. That's what it takes to make ends meet in this profession anymore. It's sickening. Not sure how much longer I can hang on, I guess til I can't feel my fingers anymore.

Are they kidding? Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! Yes, the clients will be getting blanks and I know they will be complaining. The Q keeps sending us e-mails telling us to cut down on QA submissions. Are they kidding? Okay, I just started my first job with an MTSO, and now I'm looking at an empty queue. This is the same running-out-of-work scenario that has been following me for the past 6 years, everywhere I go. I've worked at a hospital doing transcription and getting an hourly wage, and I've also done transcription at home. At-home was not a good experience for me. Editing MM's ASR is so mind numbing! I get back 1-2 reports a week from a client audit with stupid errors, errors I don't make when I am straight typing! And you can certainly tell the horrendous number of errors that I am correcting by my line count. The better the output, the better my count. I don't mind clocking in and out, everyone has to do that, but if there is down time that needs to be added to my timecard or the like then that should be their job not ours. I don't have time for all this unpaid crap. I just want to clock in and do my work then clock out and forget about the rest. I could have participated in my company's 401K for 3 years now, but when I went to sign the paperwork and read through the fine print there were things stated in there like I could lose everything that I put into it if the investiment company went bankrupt and that this "IS" an investment and not a promise to pay..... If some people are going so far above and beyond what is expected of them that they are giving 250%, how in the world are they not working more than the regular shift? Every day it is drummed into our heads that we have to watch our schedules so as not to go over. If we're already working full time and giving 100% or more, how can we give 250% without going over? and it is tough...I work doggedly to do this in the 8 hours I am allotted..not because it takes 8 hours, but because I have to do within 8 hours. If I was given a block of time, like it has been suggested, I could easily get this done with 6 hours (on and off) of editing and/or the little bit of typing I get. Do you mind comparing? I like to know if I am in the average range of what I need to do. By the way, in the old days, a full day for me was never more than 30 ...
