A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Eight years ago, I started school for medical transcription. I had grand dreams of being able to have a well-paying career while still staying home with my kids. After all, based on my husband's pay we could not afford for me to stay at home without bringing in an income and preferred to not have to pay for daycare for our 2 (now 3) kids.
Now here I am, with my head in my hands, making exactly the same as I did when I landed my first MT job. This is the only profession I know of where you can have 7 years of experience, while meeting the company's ridiculous quality requirements, and still consistently have your pay decreased.
The only way I can make up for what they are now going to start taking out of my paycheck (and the food out of my kids' mouths and the clothes off their backs) is to work the "overnight" shift--providing there is enough work to do at that time, of course. But now with the news of this new pay plan in place, N has overhired and overstaffed to the point that there is not enough work to go around anyway. Good luck making any of the quotas now.
So, that's it. I am looking for a new, non-MT job. I would rather work overnight stocking produce at the local grocery store for $10 an hour than deal with this crap anymore. The stress just is not worth it to me. But with having young kids still, and my husband working during the day, I would have to work the graveyard shift somewhere, but I bet I would be better appreciated anywhere else I went. Heck, I might even get a raise once in a while!
