I've worked at a hospital doing transcription and getting an hourly wage, and I've also done transcription at home. At-home was not a good experience for me. I about went bankrupt, but the good thing is that I have more experience now. I'm trying to decide whether to go back to a hospital and get an hourly pay or work from home again... Thanks for any input! I appreciate it!

so it's not really applicable. And I was making more than my friends who worked at McDonald's at minimum wage (but they got free meals and I didn't).

The least I've made in recent years was 7 cents a line, which is waaaaay too low.

I won't tell you the most I've ever made because it will make everyone (including me!) cry because those days are, alas, long gone.... But I will say that it was a production-based job, and I am a scary-fast typist, and the doctors I was working for knew very well that you get what you pay for, and they were quite willing to keep me happy. (And I was. Very.)

Whether you'd be better off with an hourly job or a production job is going to be based on (a) how much you might get offered for either of those today, and (b) how fast you are. If you can consistently type 200 lines per hour (which is fairly fast) and you were being paid, for instance, 8 cents a line, that would translate to $16 an hour. You can extrapolate other math scenarios from there.

working for the company I work for now BUT that happens only frequently with good dictators. I work at home and still transcribe, no VR. I pray every day that it stays that way.....

The least I've made is about $7 an hour and the most I've made is about $45 an hour.

The most I ever made was around $25/hour. The - least I ever made was 6 cpl back in - sm

1977. But of course, if you factor in what a dollar (or a penny) is worth today in 2011, as compared to 1977, then even at 9 cpl, I'm making way, WAY less than I did in '77.

Man, mt2long, you must have been busting your ___ to do that.

My least was about $8.00 an hour working for the Navy in 1971. My most is $32.55 an hour for Kaiser who only requires 80 minutes a day.

It wouldn't be so bad if there was just no work in my BOB and I could ask for more back up accounts from other BOB but the whole western region is out of work! Are they kidding? Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! Yes, the clients will be getting blanks and I know they will be complaining. The Q keeps sending us e-mails telling us to cut down on QA submissions. Are they kidding? Editing MM's ASR is so mind numbing! I get back 1-2 reports a week from a client audit with stupid errors, errors I don't make when I am straight typing! And you can certainly tell the horrendous number of errors that I am correcting by my line count. The better the output, the better my count. I don't mind clocking in and out, everyone has to do that, but if there is down time that needs to be added to my timecard or the like then that should be their job not ours. I don't have time for all this unpaid crap. I just want to clock in and do my work then clock out and forget about the rest. I could have participated in my company's 401K for 3 years now, but when I went to sign the paperwork and read through the fine print there were things stated in there like I could lose everything that I put into it if the investiment company went bankrupt and that this "IS" an investment and not a promise to pay..... If some people are going so far above and beyond what is expected of them that they are giving 250%, how in the world are they not working more than the regular shift? and it is tough...I work doggedly to do this in the 8 hours I am allotted..not because it takes 8 hours, but because I have to do within 8 hours. If I was given a block of time, like it has been suggested, I could easily get this done with 6 hours (on and off) of editing and/or the little bit of typing I get. Do you mind comparing? I like to know if I am in the average range of what I need to do. By the way, in the old days, a full day for me was never more than 30 ...
