If you don't mind my asking, did anybody choose IC over employee with Transcend? and why? - Trying to decide

Still weighing my options and am not sure which way to go. I understand FT and PT got a cut in pay, but not ICs. Is this true? Any other downside to IC status other than the SE tax and being lowest on the totem pole to get work when it's slow?

even though I wanted IC. I figure it doesn't matter how much I like IC status, if work gets low and I get kicked off the system then I'm an IC with a flexible schedule, no commitments, and no paycheck.

HR and others gave the appearance of not having a clue about IC status and finding out anything about IC status like pulling teeth. And, they supposedly DO have IC status. Overt discouragement, IMO, of anything BUT full time.

From their standpoint, guess it makes sense. Not from mine.

at MDI...Everyone keeps posting about pay cuts and I was surprised when I received my paperwork that mine stayed the same, wonder why? Also, this whole IC versus employee thing is a little crazy. If you go IC and get your # by law you have the right to hand out that work to be completed by someone else since you have business #...can they really keep you from doing that?

Do you make more than .09? I believe cuts were only for people - MDIer

who make more than .09/line. First they said just for FT because of all the benefits. Then they cut PT too, don't know how they justified that with no benefits. Apparently they cut the IC rate too.

I'm with MDI right now and we have been told we will join Transcend payroll on 02/1/2010. Okay, I know this is a weird question, but I am a planner and am trying to figure out my monies for the future. The story is I worked on same account for 4 years under MDI with no complaints about my work, always went above and beyond. I was at top of pay scale. I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes. For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status? The same or more? ...

After browsing around in FIESA, I found what looks to be an instruction manual for the people who audit us and after looking at it, it sure does look like they can pick and choose which reports to audit, rather than randomly. I have also had the worst dictators audited more than the good ones. Of course it's easier to find a mistake that way and easier to keep our pay down! Remember 7 cpl is really equal to only 3.5 cpl if most of your jobs are VR. ...

Seriously, I honestly do not know what is going on in the western region. It wouldn't be so bad if there was just no work in my BOB and I could ask for more back up accounts from other BOB but the whole western region is out of work! It was the same way over the weekend, isn't there usually work on the weekends? Are they kidding? Who is going to be sending ANYTHING to QA and take a chance of having their pay cut? Especially if it's the beginning of the work week! Okay, I just started my first job with an MTSO, and now I'm looking at an empty queue. This is the same running-out-of-work scenario that has been following me for the past 6 years, everywhere I go. Editing MM's ASR is so mind numbing! I get back 1-2 reports a week from a client audit with stupid errors, errors I don't make when I am straight typing! And you can certainly tell the horrendous number of errors that I am correcting by my line count. The better the output, the better my count. I don't mind clocking in and out, everyone has to do that, but if there is down time that needs to be added to my timecard or the like then that should be their job not ours. I don't have time for all this unpaid crap. I just want to clock in and do my work then clock out and forget about the rest. They get paid the big bucks to take care of our timecards if there are additions that need to be added. ...
