Considering moving on.... - Looking for greener grass

Hey out there in the wonderful world of MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION. I am considering a change of scenery, wanting to jump ship and switch to another MTSO.....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Surely, there are some happy medical language specialists out there who enjoy their work and their accounts....can you share some ideas with me? Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

about the future of that either. I have another 10 years before retirement age and really would like to work even longer than that, but I am doubtful that there will be MT jobs for that long. I thought about coding, but I'm told those jobs are facing some of the same problems as MT, so ....... really unsure what to do. There is nursing, but even if I somehow came up with the money for schooling, by the time I'd finish, who would hire me? It is a scary situation, that's for sure.

Coding is not facing the same problems as MT.

Even if a coding job were eliminated, coders can use their knowledge in lateral and advanced positions in HIA. It is very easy to move around, get additional education, and stay employed in jobs that offer excellent compensation and value older employees for their stability and work ethic.

There is a career map on the AHIMA website illustrating this. There ars also articles discussing coding as a career field and as an HIA function.

dissuade anyone from entering coding or any other field. I simply shared MY thoughts and MY decisions/ponderings. Perhaps while I am educating myself on career choices, you should educate yourself on how to treat people with compassion, courtesy and respect.

seems to be enjoying snide remarks. They used the same terminology in addressing the above question about IC versus business associate, like you don't have sense to get in out of the rain. Take it with a grain of salt.

That poster has a bad reputation on this board of responding with insults and false accusations whenever someone says anything remotely negative about coding. We've all learned to ignore them. A lot of us no longer even bother asking questions on the Coding Board for this same reason. Not sure why the mod allows this to go on.

I've been thinking about closed captioning as a possible career change as well, but not even sure where to start. How does one get into this field? I'm assuming some schooling is required? Thanks for any info you might have on this!

It is $5000 or so, but the people who are taking the course seem very excited about it and the woman running the course has 100% job placement after you finish the course.

You have to decide what greener grass looks like. It's not likely anyone who has plenty of work, good accounts really wants to pad their company with too many MTs thus changing their own situation.

Happy MTs researched, did trial and error, and found jobs that work for them.

Good luck as you do the same.

Well, part of the reason for my initial post was to vent and put down on paper for the world to see that I am finally accepting the fact that it isnt going to get any better where I currently work. So, was just hoping someone would hand me that Proverbial "golden cup" with a positive answer. I do know that I must do my own research and try for things that fit my situation. I do know that most people with a plumb jog wont share, but then again, some folks will, because they are secure in their abilities and security, but the sour grapes responses dont help me or anyone else. So, once again, I find that posting or reading this forum is just a waste of my time and those MTs time who are seriously trying to hang in there at an age where it isnt so easy to change. I know I should, dont need anyone with snippy answers telling me so. Again, Thanks to those folks that have compassion and it shows in their answers and thrrrrrrpppppp to those mean bashing posters. Thanks for listening, going back to work now to make my $$$ to supplement my social security and 401K even if it is low wages and I am worth more.

I, too, was one of the "account specific victims" at SoftScript. I was fired for a QA score of 90%. This score was from 100% account specific errors (same error over and over in four different reports). Rather than counting one formatting or specific error, they dinged me over and over, making my QA score 90.4%. I am pleased to say I have found an open door to a job opportunity that is outside of MT work. It is a job that will utilize my experience in healthcare and my medical terminology. A very nice pay increase, regular holidays off with pay, and vacation and sick time. No weekend work. My old computer's hard drive is dying quickly. I need to move all my favorites/bookmarks from the old one to the new one. I've tried import and Export and it doesn't work. I tried copying the favorites to a CD-ROM but don't know how to get them onto the new computer. I've spent all morning searching for the answer and trying to move them over to no avail. Hello, I work for a local cardiology group and we use Nuance with Dragon (EXtext). I was wondering if there is a way to have the cursor move along automatically while I have the foot pedal down so I do not have to take my right hand off the keyboard to move the cursor with the right arrow button. I have run into this problem every time I have to switch to a new/different computer. In Office 2003 I save autocorrect entires with the first four initials of the docs last name containing their usual physical exam spiel or sometimes a sample of their entire report. There seems to be no limit to how many autocorrects can be saved or how long the save can be. The problem comes when trying to move them to a new computer. My employer use MedQuist’s DocQScribe software and is moving us all onto its VR. So far, what we’re seeing from the VR is almost completely garbage, but MedQuist claims that our corrections will “teach” the VR to recognize our dictators’ speech patterns. Thanks, Nuance, for moving me and several other MTs to what looks and sounds like a disastrous account just before the holidays. Yeah, the cents per line is a little bit higher than what I was making on my previous account, but when you factor in the slow going it will be because of the 73 PAGES OF ACCOUNT SPECS that we have to learn, the hundreds (maybe thousands??
