You said it perfectly and to the point.
For whatever reason you decide to be continually robbed of your skills and not compensated in a fair manner is your choice and the tunnel vision that goes along with that speaks volumes about your mentality. Obviously, you are willing to work, but to work even for low wages along with being abused and doing free work is something that cannot be justified.
