Pearson Transcription - ABCDEFG

Posted: Apr 29th, 2022 - 1:22 pm In Reply to: Pearson - It would be nice to hear

My very first transcription job was with Nuance Transcription, so I know what that was all about. I currently work for Pearson Transcription, and I'd like to shed some light on some things that are true about Pearson Transcription: What we do at Pearson Transcription is not really traditional medical transcription. We primarily do Independent Medical Evaluations and Independent Chiropractic Evaluations. No SOAP notes here. No Operative Reports here. We also have several accounts for attorneys and courthouses. Several of the doctors we transcribe for are also called as expert witnesses in court cases. Nearly everything we do finds its way into a courtroom at some point in time. Court schedules are unpredictable at times. If a case gets called into Court at 9am tomorrow morning and the expert witness doctor or lawyer or whoever gets the needed dictation to Pearson at 5pm the previous day, that sometimes means you pull an all-nighter to meet that client's needs. A lot of the time, we are at the mercy of the Court system which means our jobs don't always fit between 9am and 5pm every day with weekends off. That's just not how this works. For those of you complaining about the cost of Olympus, you are an independent contractor. If you don't want to buy the software, don't buy the software. That only means that Pearson won't be able to give you certain accounts. Some of our legal accounts require that we use For The Record, which, in my opinion, is some of the worst software known to man. As an IC, you have the option to get it or not get it. Not having it only means you can't work the accounts that require it, which limits which accounts Pearson can use you for. As far as the erratic spring storms in the South, those do happen and you can only do what you can do. I do most of my work from a desktop...because I love my desktop. But I have a laptop and a charger for those times when the power goes out and the desktop is not an option. It all really boils down to how much you do or don't want to work for a company and how much money you do or don't want to put into doing it. "It takes money to make money" is still true. The bottom line is that you are an IC. The I stands for Independent. You can choose what company you work for or don't work for. End of story. I find all this personal bashing really distasteful and unnecessary.
