Pearson - I passed

Posted: Apr 8th, 2022 - 10:49 am In Reply to: Has anyone ever worked for Pearson Transcription - CMT

I interviewed with her last fall and was offered a position, but I ended up not taking it. There were several red flags and issues of concern that were total deal breakers for me. First, you don't work out of a pool where you log in and the work that is available just downloads to your queue. They manually assign you work each day and you get an automated email telling you when the work has been assigned, what has been assigned, and when it is due by. They fully expect you to get it done by that specific time. A lot of the work is due back within just a few hours of it being assigned. If any report is even one nanosecond late, the client gets the report for free, which means that YOU don't get paid for that report. F that!!!!!! Secondly, they expect you to spend over $300 to purchase the Olympus audio player because Express Scribe Pro "isn't good enough" and "not all files work with it." They expect you to purchase this program very shortly after starting with them and they expect YOU to pay for it. I'm sorry, but if they want you to have some $300+ program in order to work for them, THEY need to provide it. You should never have to spend a single penny in order to get a job. Thirdly, they only pay once per month. That was an immediate deal breaker for me. If I had started when they wanted me to, I wouldn't have gotten my first paycheck for over a month. No thanks. I need to eat more than Ramen noodles and cereal and I'd prefer to keep a roof over my head. I will only work for either twice monthly, biweekly, or weekly pay. Monthly is just way too long to go without a paycheck. Lastly, they expect you to be available on Skype pretty much 24/7 so they can harass and micromanage you through instant message.

The owner of the company came across as very overbearing and difficult to work with. I immediately got the impression that she was someone who would constantly be breathing down your neck and was extremely OCD and a major control freak. She wanted things done NOW. The contractor paperwork had to be done IMMEDIATELY. I needed to add her to Skype IMMEDIATELY. All this for a measly 7 cpl. I took a hard pass.

Like the other poster mentioned, she advertises A LOT. I see her people posting on the MT Facebook groups all the time trying to hire. I'm fairly certain that she has already posted twice in the last 2-3 weeks. I think she probably has trouble hiring and keeping people, which doesn't surprise me in the least after hearing about how they operate and what they expect of people for such a low paying IC position with absolutely no perks or benefits.
