Skype - No thanks

Posted: Apr 8th, 2022 - 4:33 pm In Reply to: Has anyone ever worked for Pearson Transcription - CMT

Same story as everyone else. I was recently offered a position there, but I, too, said thanks, but no thanks. She told me that it was $350 for that Olympus program and I had to have it within a few weeks of starting. I wondered if she maybe gets some sort of kickback from them by having her contractors purchase it. Also, she requires that you not only have Skype on your work PC, but also on your mobile phone. I still have the contract she sent me (which I did not sign) and this is what it states:

"Contractor must be available by telephone, email, and Skype messaging, and remain logged into Skype on their cellular device during Pearson business hours. Contractor is expected to acknowledge and participate in instructional Skype posts for job updates and information. Failure to participate or acknowledge messaging will be grounds for contract separation."

So, basically, she wants to have tabs on you and have access to you at all times, even if you're not working. Tracy Pearson doesn't seem to understand what INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR means. I don't even think they would be allowed to require this sort of thing as an employee. There was no way I was going to go through all that nonsense for a lousy 7 cpl IC position. It's way too much and her expectations of her contractors are totally unreasonable and unrealistic. She needs to chill with all her requirements and increase what she pays.
