Nuance markets several types of medical software. - Some better than others.

Here's a list of the software packages currently listed on one of their own websites:

Dictaphone® Enterprise Speech System: Onsite speech-assisted transcription
eScription: On-demand/ASP-model speech-assisted transcription
Dragon® Medical: A family of real-time speech recognition solutions that enable clinicians to dictate into and navigate their EHR by voice
Dragon® Medical Enterprise Network Edition: Speech-enabled clinical documentation for hospitals, health systems, and larger practices
Dragon Medical Practice Edition: Speech-enabled clinical documentation for small-to mid-sized practices
Dragon Medical Mobile: Mobile point-of-care solutions for real-time speech recognition and dictation capabilities
PowerScribe® 360: Real-time, speech recognition for diagnostic reporting
SpeechMagic™: Speech recognition for system developers.

Some platforms are not even supported anymore, so Nuance is switching the providers who had invested in those over to newer "improved" technologies. (Each change requires the MT to learn a new platform in order to keep typing for that account).

Yes, it is a racket that will no doubt cost some patient his/her life some day. By then there will be even newer technologies already in development phases to replace that one.

Many surgeries are already largely templated and modified with onsite point and click capabilities.

Just sayin'.
