I just started ASR today....and I love it! - Its so easy.

Posted: Jun 22, 2010

Its so easy.  I don't see alot of posts about the company i work for, so i won't post that, but their back end is fabulous!  And it was so easy today to do 190 lph, and I'm still training!

To those who have just decided they are "just not gonna do ASR", you better reconsider.  It is the wave of the future.  It works.  I am so glad I finally learned how to do it.

I really don't think we should shun it, we should embrace it.  Get yourself trained in it if you haven't already.  Just one MTs opinion.

Thanks for listening....

Glad you enjoy it - sm

Sometimes it is really the roll of the dice if you get a good platform and/or good accounts, but let me tell you, when things are working the way they are supposed to, it is MT Heaven! Do you mind telling what program you are using?

Well, it's certainly easier on the hands! - Been doing it nearly 3 months now

and I'm hoping to still get faster, because I'm still not making QUITE as much per hour as I was doing straight typing. Of course, I'm scary-fast with the straight typing, so it was easy to throw down a truly frightening line count.... :)

Well you embrace away. I'm glad you think it is easier. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are working on a "good" ASR program. I've been doing it 2 years and always have hated it and will never embrace it. A doctor I had 15 years ago tried it because it was the wave of the future and soon chucked it out the window where it belonged then and still belongs. If I wanted something easier on my hands I would not have become a transcriptionist. I would rather get up and shake my hands out once in awhile than shake my head in disgust after each report I have to correct by a stupid computer program. Anyway, good luck with that 190 LPH at half the pay. I can type that.

it's so easy? The way you do it, it sure is.... - really?

[ In Reply To ..]
If I were you I would first edit my own comments.

What about the pay? Also easy and light, I bet.

The wave of the future is: EMR.

that is an hourly pay of $ 7.60, maximum: cpl 4 cents - embrace it? nm

nm

are you joking? - what is your cpl

[ In Reply To ..]
even at 5.5 cpl which is what I make at another company, you're still only making just over $10/hour.

Consider yourself VERY fortunate if you are working on ASR that works the way it is supposed to with good drafts.

Hope those drafts don't become "too good", or you'll be out of a job.

Better save up your extra money now for the future.

glad you love it - MarineMom

I hate it. Not because of the pay, which sucks; and not because VR is stupid - although it is, and those are just the TOP reasons to hate it. I hate it because I LOVE to type, which is why I got into this job in the first place. I've been both a medical and legal transcriptionist, and I loved this job before VR. Now, I'm not so sure how much I love my job anymore....

Well - Its so easy

At least I am trying to think positively. You guys kills me, all wound up so tight. I mean, really, if someone doesn't agree with you, chop them to bits? Forgive me for being an optimist. At least I have a job, and I'm not unemployed on my "principles". I just started doing it, and I'm already doing a high volume. By the way, today, 391 lph. Thats almost $20 an hour. Work is work. How hard is it to edit? Easier job means more money. Who can't get that? I feel sorry for you guys.

I'm happy for you - but please understand

[ In Reply To ..]
the frustration many of us are feeling is that is it impossible to do 391 lph on ASR at other companies. All ASR is definitely not created equal. We are having to edit every other word and sometimes just type the whole chart out from scratch because it is so bad. So, my point is to consider yourself very, very fortunate to be in the position you are in. When you come on here and announce to the MT world that "it's so easy!", what do you expect from the majority of us who are not in the same ideal situation that you are in? Think about it. Don't feel sorry for me. Just be extremely grateful and hold onto that job you have!

You're lucky to have a good account and WORK - Backwards Typist

I can do 300 lph or more but run out of work every day. So, I'm not one of the happy ones lately. Usually, I run out around 10 a.m.

Just this morning, there was plenty of work..figured I'd run out at the usual time. After 1 hour, all the work disappeared and I know for a fact that there aren't that many people working at that time of the morning. So, where did it go?

Also, I was never really trained on it. I had to learn myself, so it took me a while longer to 'get it'.

To go from 2500 lines a day on one platform down to 1000 lines,if I'm lucky, on the new platform, is just not worth it.

Started New VR Job Today On Escription & ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Nov 15, 2010

I am so excited!  I started a new job today and I absolutely love my account and editing VR on this platform.  I made pretty good lines in just a couple hours using none of the VR key combinations because I haven't started utilizing them yet (figure it will take time to learn them) but I don't think avg. 300 lph is too bad on first day huh?  I was worried and now I can't imagine going back to transcribing, seriously.  I hope tomorrow and each day after is as go ...

Started DQS7 Today, And Not As Bad.... Smg
Apr 19, 2012

as I thought.   In fact, I did not sleep last night and my stomach was in a knot before I started work this morning.  Basically, I worried myself sick for nothing.  I am glad, however, that I went over the tutorials one more time last evening, so I think that really helped.   Though the screen is visually different, most of the commands are still the same.  The first report was slow going, took about 45 minutes to do because I was being sooooo very caref ...

AND then spells it again - extubated, e-x-t-u-b-a-t-e-d, extubated e for elephant, x for crosses, t for tom, u for umbrella, b for .......... get the picture (sigh)? On top of that, the report is 28 minutes long!!! Should never have gotten out of bed this morning. LOL I do feel bad for him that he doesn't realize he doesn't have to spell every other ...

How To Get Started As A MT?
Mar 30, 2011

Hello everyone!  I just found this forum.  I currently work part-time as a legal virtual assistant.  My background is in personal injury law and would like to get my feet wet and start medical and legal transcribing.  Would anyone be so kind as to advise how I start.  I already hold a B.A. in political science and do not think I need to go through a AA program.  Bottom line, I am confused and don't know where to begin.  Please help! Started My First Job, But It Went Horrible!
Jun 08, 2010

Hey everybody, I just needed to vent a little bit. I started my first day on my first job, and it went absolutely horrible. I was using the Emdat InScribe platform, which seems easy enough, but they have sooo many templates that the doctor should be using and isn't. My first few reports were okay, but then everything went downhill. I'm supposed to use the templates, but half the time, I had to erase 3/4 of them because it wasn't what he was saying. The wrong templates would load, ...

Just Getting Started... Education??
Jun 17, 2011

Hello All! I have recently decided to begin a career in MT, and am trying to weigh my education options. I have a bachelor's degree in Hearing, Speech & Language Sciences, so I'm great with interpreting speech/language and am also pretty good at deciphering English as a second language. I've also worked for a hospital scheduling outpatient testing for the past three years, so I have a bit of a background in medical terminology (still so much to learn!) and the inner workings ...

It is going to be tough, but it definitely is going to be worth it. ...

Switch From MTs To MMEs Has Started

You know who you are. You even asked questions on this board about setting up an MT company.   You have even stopped answering/reading e-mails, even though I have not harrassed you or have even been nasty.  I would, however, like to get paid.  Your excuses that you are waiting for lines counts from the client and that you will keep me updated is wearing thin.  Surely you must have line counts by now since the work was done in February.  Or is it because you have spe ...
