Started my first job, but it went horrible! - maybemtisnot4me

Hey everybody,

I just needed to vent a little bit. I started my first day on my first job, and it went absolutely horrible. I was using the Emdat InScribe platform, which seems easy enough, but they have sooo many templates that the doctor should be using and isn't. My first few reports were okay, but then everything went downhill. I'm supposed to use the templates, but half the time, I had to erase 3/4 of them because it wasn't what he was saying. The wrong templates would load, and then I would have to search for the correct ones, which weren't so easy to find. A days work that should have taken me 6 hours to do has turned into 12. Anyways, I'll be lucky if they want me back tomorrow. Thanks for listening and good luck to the rest of you newbies. This was just my bad day, it doesn't have to be yours.

Hey, first days are always bad, but it does get better. It sounds like you had the misfortune of being saddled with a problem doctor too. Take a deep breath and make a fresh start today. Keep us posted on how it's going.

First of all, take a deep breath.

Don't beat yourself up over this; many times the company knows that the doctor deviates from templates.

Even someone with a lot of experience could have a day like you did. No matter. Just start again the next day.

If you have the attitude you can't then you won't. Have the attitude you can and you will!!!!!

Just wanted to say thanks everyone! I wanted to quit sooo many times last night. I thought I would never finish, but I have this problem with never being able to start something unless I intend to finish it. I intend to do it all over again today, and hopefully things will go much better:)

copy your report - into Word

that way you don't have to retype it if you need to change templates. :)

Thanks for the helpful advice. It actually crossed my mind, but that was only after I had already retyped multiple reports. Can you say Duh! Today went much better:) It is still taking me a while, but it is my first job and only my 2nd day. Once I can actually build up text expanders, it will get even better. Thank you all!

THAT attitude will get your far in the world, be it with MTing or any other aspect of your life.

I'd wish you best of luck, but somehow I don't think you'll need it :-).

I know there are a lot of comments on here about M-modal being horrible and I have to definitely agreed, it is the only VR I have used so nothing to really compare it to but cannot do many more lines per hour than I transcribe (usually about 275 lph or so), anyone willing to share how much they do on M-modal and how long the account has been on VR? Just my curiosity since I don't seem to make any progress in increasing my lines per hour. Thanks in advance. ...

I would just like to say that Nuance is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! If you are thinking about working for this company, DON'T! Second, I was wondering if anyone knows who I can call about my pay check. Since I got laid off from Webmedx in September I've been on unemployment. I tried to work for Alltype and couldn't do it. The pay was alright but the support was awful, they just threw me into the job with no training, hardly any information on my accounts, no contact whatsoever from supervisors. Let me preface this by saying that I know that ultimately this is what we're here for, to train the systems to understand every dictator. With that being said, has anyone else noticed that some of the dictators who have been purely straight transcription for years (while all of their colleagues are on speech wreck) are now on speech as well? I quit with NO notice 3 months ago and sent a scathing resignation letter, the BEST thing I ever did!!! The letter I wrote was completely accurate, reason why I probably did not receive a response. I begin to wonder if the reports of them sending the good stuff overseas and leaving the junk for us are true. Honestly, today nothing but horrible cell phone or who knows what audio and 15 minute long non ISR by new dictators who are bad too, and the ISR ones have such awful audio the time it takes to figure them out is redonculous. I am on working right now and had to get away and vent on her for a second because the editing with voice wreck is SOOOO bad right now, I am putting way more effort into the reports than what I am getting paid for. There are amazingly stupid mistakes, whole sentences missing, other sentences made up that are nothing like the dictator is saying.
