This place makes me literally ill. No joke - MT

Posted: Oct 02, 2012

I don't think I am going back to working here. My son thinks it isn't right for me to leave b/c of a bad boss who micromanages everyone until they cannot breathe.  I have another source for money and for the little I make here it isn't worth the effort anymore. Just writing to warn others about the micromanaging done here.  The pay is so little, it isn't worth it. Thanks for listening. I know this is a negative move on my behalf regarding money but you cannot take money to the grave.  Here's to choosing life... Thanks for listening to my vent.

My son, daughter and husband have begged me to quit this place. I have an okay boss (but I really dont think she can even type). This place causes me to have headaches, chest pain and it's just not worth it. I have been an MT for 20+ years and I have never had a problem with QA, any supervisors, nothing until I came here. If I had another source of income (and I am looking), I would be gone without notice.

Sometimes, you just have to vent.

I thought it was just me. Really glad to hear that I'm not the only one who was stressing to the point of being sick for a company who couldn't care less about their staff. I quit several months ago and it was the best decision I've ever made!

Has anyone ever thought about using this experience as an opportunity to learn how to deal with anxiety, things in life that are beyond our control? It can't always be that it is always someone else's fault!
It is just you. Please. - nm

It is you! It's something how a majority of people of this board complain about the same type of problems with this company. Maybe YOU go out in life thinking everyone else is at fault who have all the similar problems in the world???
It isn't just you - There are just many bitter MTs that think...
[ In Reply To ..]
...just because they have done this since dinosaurs roamed the earth that they should be given a handout. Nuance has a TON of employees, and it is generally the same type of "I'm better than you" mentalities and "I've done this for 20 years, so I know everything" type of people who are bombarding this board with negativity. The thing is, many are scared of change, and this career is changing... So, you have a choice: Sit around and gripe about how unfair this is, or take the opportunities to learn how this field is changing, accept it, learn about it, and grow with it. Or, if you don't want to do that, change your career... Voice recognition is not going anywhere. It is here to stay, so make the most of it or move on and give the positions to those of us who really want them. :)
Is it just me - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
That's the impression I get from these boards. That's why I asked. I am not the best MT in the world. I don't know everything. But I have been very successful at Nuance. There is such a thing as personal responsibility, which I don't see a lot from the gripes on this board.
Exactly! - New Nuance MT
[ In Reply To ..]
If you run out of work, learn a new account. If QA flags you on something, learn the reason why, and don't keep making the same mistakes. (I would definitely prefer someone to be uber picky with my medical records instead of not caring.) I hear people gripe about running out of work and in the same breath gripe because they were asked to work when there is an abundance of it. It IS all about personal responsibility, and the only way anybody is going to succeed working from home is by accepting responsibility for your own work and being proactive about your career!
ps: is it just me - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I know someone is going to jump on me for having said I'm not the best MT, ha ha, Nuance hires people who are not even good MTs. I know I make mistakes. I accept that I make mistakes. I learn from them. I learn something new every day. It's not about me having any anxiety attack from Fiesa, it's about me doing the best jog I can for the institution and the patient.

This entire thread is funny to me. I just simply stated my opinion and somebody thinks I can't adapt and I been around since the stoneage? I can work circles around you sister.

As well, I am not the only unhappy camper on here as I can see from the DISLIKES on your comments.

As with other MTSO, Nuance promised everything and then finds ways not to live up to that.

I hope you're happy with 4 cpl and being a doormat. As for me, I DISAGREE.

Oh, it's about you doing the best "JOG". LOL. I can see that you are NOT.

Yeah, you never made a typo in an informal forum. - nm

"I can work circles around you sister." - This is exactly the type of...
[ In Reply To ..]
"I'm better than you" mentality that I was talking about. Disgusting, actually...
NM and typo - mt20years
[ In Reply To ..]
I have no "im better than you" mentality but I can probably still work circles around you. I won't back down from that statement.

Nonetheless, my only problem is with the way Nuance does business. No problem with you since your opinion does not affect my position in any way, shape or form. So get over yourself. AND HAVE A GREAT DAY. LOL.
This is why I am glad - I work from home
[ In Reply To ..]
How could anybody stand working in the same office day in and day out with the constant complaining, negativity, and proclaiming to be better than everybody else?
OH BROTHER - PLZ
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you crazy? Why NOT have the work when we are scheduled to WORK? I have a life of my own that needs attention outside of NUANCE! They don't pay enough to have me babysit the computer all the time!

YOU DEFINATELY SOUND LIKE A TL!!
Really? - hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
Ok so you struck my nerve just now. I have been a loyal employee for years now going through my second buyout now Transcend to Nuance. I have anxiety the medical condition so I find your statement insensitive. This company and this industry does not value us. I have been literally made sick. It is not just my job that is true but it does not help at all that I have to worry about running out of work every day now and not making enough to pay my bills and then if I get sick I feel like I have to explain my every move and defend myself. I take off for a dr appt I have to make it up later that day even though there is nothing to type. Leave your desk and they need you get nasty emails but don't get paid for the downtime waiting for work. No raises, no appreciation and feeling like a number will cause anxiety and that is this company's fault. They value nothing but their bottom line who cares if we cannot pay our bills because they overhired and now have old TLs typing as MLS taking more work away from us. Deal with that anxiety! Deal with knowing you checks has less than halfed.

[ In Reply To ..]
I quit this company a month ago too and very happy with the new place I work for. NO MORE SPEECH WRECK TO DEAL WITH. I could not also stand these Hitler-type QAs anymore who get a huge thrill of making MTs feel like they're worthless!

SM-It IS just you - mt20years

[ In Reply To ..]
See, It is just you.

This has nothing to do with 20 year experienced MTs not wanting to change - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Reading into it much? Who said it was about 20 year MTs not wanting to change. Seems like you read into it. OP said the place makes her sick. Period. Seems to me it is the MICROMANAGING which is, I agree WRONG and BAD MANAGEMENT which bothers her.
And I say to her go for a better place to be... this place indeed makes people sick and for those who enjoy it, good for you.. and to that person I say, good for you, now go micromanage another person into wanting to quit... gives you a sense of power and Nuance enables that behavior, wait your turn will come. That's a promise.

"wait your turn will come. That's a promise." - NO, it wont. Your experience is

[ In Reply To ..]
not everyone's experience. What works for some may not necessarily work for others, but that is no reason to go speaking negativity on anyone.
your turn - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, rest assured, your turn will come, maybe not on your current job, but it will come. Not speaking negativity, just fact.

Everybody gets a turn in this industry.
I doubt that very seriously. I do well, I make good money - and WILL CONTINUE TO DO WELL.
[ In Reply To ..]
So as you believe, so shall you recieve and I dont believe that for one minute.

People with negative attitudes tend to have negative outcomes and Im not a negative person and I dont buy into the stuff I read here. I dont even work for Nuance, but I am an MT and I was the one who posted that not everyone's experience is the same.

If there are happy MTs at Nuance, let them be happy. You speak such strong words, as though you are wishing and hoping to see someone suffer or have misfortune. Why not agree to disagree without trying to pull everyone else into your misery.

If you are that unhappy, I do hope that you find a better job that suits you, but in the meantime, the negative insults wishing/hoping the worst or speaking bad things on people should seriously stop.

Like the old saying goes - The very hole you dig for someone else could be the very hole you fall into yourself.
How delusional are you? - MT with self-respect
[ In Reply To ..]
This is exactly the kind of complacency that has this industry working for pennies per line.
You don't work for Nuance???!! Why are you even answering here. - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
How can you comment on the micromanaging that goes on in a place you DO NOT WORK. How in the world do you but in a conversation you know nothing of??!! This floors me you have the NERVE to criticize people going through experience in a particular company you are not even involved with! What NERVE

Nuance blows. 4 cents is NOT COOL. - RC

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't give a rip if some other MT thinks I'm lazy or ungrateful or can't adapt because I think Nuance blows.

I think they're insane for believing 4 cents a line is a good job. It isn't.

And it certainly isn't enough money to be treated poorly - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
And to be belittled. Add on 50K or so more and maybe then that treatment might be tolerated.
Either way. Nope. Nothing in life is worth being treated poorly. And I do not think the OP is alone.

I dont think anyone is advocating for 4 cents, I think - even the most happiest of

[ In Reply To ..]
MTs would have to agree that the pay for Nuance sucks.

so, I have to ask, WHY are you happy again? - pay is the bottom line here

[ In Reply To ..]
I really don't get how anyone can be happy with this pay. As far as accepting what the industry has come to, I think that's silly. No one has to accept anything and be happy with such low pay. This is just what Nuance wants you to think, that you're not good enough for anything else, you're not good enough for better pay, we can easily replace you with someone better, you should be lucky to have this job with all your errors in FIESA... Reminds me of what an abusive spouse would say and it's sick and abusive.

If it "blows" so bad, - why did you take the job?

[ In Reply To ..]
You could have turned down the offer, but you agreed to this rate. If it bothers you that much, get another job...

No kidding? - RC

[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks for the advice. I had totally failed to figure that out for myself.

I took the job because I needed a job. I'm in training for a different job, but in the meantime, I work for Nuance.

It still blows.
So you just want to . . . - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Bellyache to anyone who will listen about what you feel are poor choices you have made in your life? That's what I mean about responsibility earlier.
Oh, puhleease. - RC
[ In Reply To ..]
I am giving my opinion on Nuance, and this is the place to do it. If you don't approve, that's not my problem. And save your "responsibility" lecture for someone you may have actually met or know a smidgen of information about.

Do YOU think 4 cents is a good wage????

Taking the job - fedup

[ In Reply To ..]
Some of us were not given a choice. I made much more money when it was Webmedx. Enter Nuance, cut pay and turn this into the worst job I've held in 25 years. Save your breath, I've been looking along with most MTs here.

Why did some accept the job? sm - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Some of us came over with WMX, hoping for the best, including increased production, found out otherwise.

Personally, I loved my accounts having worked on them a considerable amout of time. Also, quite used to platform we work on.

A Load Off Literally
Jul 17, 2013

Finally quit. Except for leaving MM I have never felt such a load taken off my shoulders. I am going to a hospital system where historically they do not treat people like robots, or slaves. I was going to try to hang on here, by hermiting (do my job and not look at e mails, etc) but decided to try to get out and with a lot of job hunting it worked. I still cannot believe how much pressure has lifted. Oddly I no longer feel depressed. I guess now I know what was causing my sadness... I am not say ...

Literally Physically Sick Of This
Jul 30, 2013

These are the last 3 days of my notice. I thought I would be elated. Instead, I had a really really bad day (again). I have always done well, been in the business forever. I learned to hang on here a year, rarely if ever paid mind to the nasty e mails because I kept my nose to the grindstone. I managed to get bonus almost every payperiod the last several months, and last time got the big bonus.   All of a sudden out of nowhere about 3 weeks ago I suddenly sucked so bad as an MT it seems I ...

I Am Literally Going BROKE Working For This Company
Dec 05, 2011

My region has just brought on a few new accounts which would be considered a good thing for most but here is my problem.  I'm an MME so these new accounts are all 100% QA which means I've only made $0.03 cpl for days now.  To make it a thousand times worse, it seems as if every doctor on one of our new accounts has a different set of samples and formatting to follow so when I'm not earning $0.03 cpl QA'ing other people's work I've got at least a dozen samples open ...

Literally Was Falling Asleep While Typing Just Now...

Apr 19, 2012

I have noticed that my right index finger is a little bigger than the left, feeling a little tender, not real painful yet.  I measured them and sure enough it IS bigger.  Great, does this mean I'm getting arthritis or something?  In my late 40s--am I old enough for this?  Probably.   I just hope this doesn't get any worse.  I'll be in big trouble.   I had to drop my medical insurance.  And if I can't work, I don't know w ...

Frustration And Anger Over This Job Might Literally Be Killing Me.
Apr 02, 2015

I once took great pride in the practice of medical transcription.  Funny that we didn't call ourselves "editors" then, because the fact is that we really were editors in much more of the true sense of that word than we are now.  A true editor can take garbage, stomp it, filter it, ferment it, age it, and ultimately bring forth a bottle of delicious wine from it. This, we did also.  From garbage dictations, we used superior language skills, a knowledge of many subjects, skill ...

Hospital Pay--is This A JOKE?
Dec 30, 2009

Okay, so halfway out of curiosity, I applied to my local hospital, which is a large regional hospital, for an MT job.  They wanted a "seasoned" MT with CMT, who transcribes 250 lines an hour.  Okay, I thought, they might actually compensate better than I think since they have well-defined high standards.  WRONG!  They are offering $11.35 AN HOUR!  What a slap in the face!  You get a whole extra dollar if you work 2nd shift.  What an insult--they just have ...
