Work force - old and burned out

Posted: Apr 09, 2013

Indian MTs are being started at $40/week which is not a living wage even in India.  At that rate, MM can go through many layers of QA in India and still spend much less than they would using Americans.  They will replace as many US MTs as they possibly can, keeping Americans only if requested by the client.  They will find any excuse they can to do this.  The only hope is if clients are dissatisfied with the quality of the work and take steps to correct it.  There have been a few instances of this but I wouldn't count on it.  Don't sit at home and make yourself sick.  If you have any other course of action open to you - take it.

but I've been watching them for a long time. Most of you have never worked in an office where you could watch them in person and it adds yet another perspective. This is an opinion like everything else on this board. You don't have to believe it.

Your right old and burned out - sm

but you can't fix people that don't want to see the handwriting on the wall. I've been watching it also. It is so obvious what is happening.
If they can't hire & fairly pay American workers, then - MTSO shouldnt do business in US, either.

I'd like to see these companies booted out of the US entirely. They're nothing but a bunch of PARASITES on our nation.

well I'm hanging on as long as I can - because

I don't have a terrible situation right now; I'm making 10/6 and have a good boss and enough work. I will stay till the last dog is hung, as they say.

I've been an MT for over 12 years and thought I'd ride this out until the end of the line; however, workflow has become so unstable for such an extended period of time that I've had to move on from that plan. I can only survive on payday advances and yard sales so long! I'm getting older by the day, and I asked myself where I want to be in a year or two: doing the same thing and barely scratching out an existence or possibly in a new career? There's no reason to wait around any longer--it's not going to get better! I'm tired of feeling broke! I'm tired of sitting at the PC hoping for a report. I'm tired of feeling obsolete!

I agree with you-and getting more upset the more I talk about it. I have over 35 years experience and so glad I am at the end of my MT career- Before about 5 or 6 years ago, this was a wonderful career, great money, benefits. What the heck happened????

well said - MIA

I had to get out. I was just miserable, although I tried to stick it out, I really tried. When there was talk of docking my pay that's when I knew it was time to leave. I've updated my resume and have begun applying as a typist somewhere, anywhere but here. Wish I could have left the MT field (34 years) as happy as I started, but no regrets. I was scared, still am, but each day away from the yoke of MM gets easier and I now look forward to my future whatever it may be. My heart goes out to all who have been recently terminated. Stay positive, it does get easier.

WMX Reduction In Force Employees
Oct 05, 2010

Hoping everyone has found new and happy homes.  Frightening to think we can so easily lose our job (through no fault of our own).   I understand it was not just new people hired for that specific account but some of you had been there a while and were put on it and got zapped.  I thought of asking for transfer to it simply because it was a large account.  Wow, I dodged that bullet. Sorry you were not as lucky. Best of luck to you (and the rest of us). ...

SoftScript Disturbance In The Force
Oct 05, 2011

I have been through this several times before and I know the signs.  Work levels start to drop inexplicably for prolonged periods.  People get fired for specious reasons, the petty harrassment starts, another way to lessen your workforce before... what?  I feel something really, really bad coming our way, either offshoring, VR and cut in wages, getting sold, or all three.  It is no more business as usual here, something is up, and I wonder if anyone else has noticed.  Be ...

Word Clearly Sounds Like "E Force." See Message....
Jul 01, 2013

This doctor clearly dictates the word, E force, but I can't document it anywhere.  He dictates it in the following sentences.  (1)  "He has no neurocognitive slowing.  E force consistent with medication compliance with the Xanax 0.5 mg b.i.d."  (2)  "He has a clear sensorium.  E force is checked." Thank you very much for your help.    ...
