AHDI membership - mqmtnc

Posted: Apr 19, 2010

Can anyone help me register for the AHDI membership.  I haven't done this yet and can't figure it out.  I'm so confused.  When I go to the web page and try to register it keeps wanting me to pay $135.  Isn't this supposed to be free now with MQ?

What is RMT? - Anybody?

[ In Reply To ..]
Is it a test?

Never mind. I called AHDI. You have to pay - 120.00 if you are a member.

[ In Reply To ..]
If you are not a member of AHDI, then you pay 200.00. It is an exam. You have to register and can through AHDI which costs 10.00 and then pay 120.00 to take the exam. Exam is scheduled at a facility/place NOT ON-LINE and you take the test and if you pass, then you are an RMT just like the CMT business.

Is it worth the .025 for RMT after paying 10.00 plus 120.00?

Why Do This? - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm with poster who said don't send your money. I have been scratching my head trying to find a good reason to join, and have come up with nothing--been scratching my head for 12 years over this. Okay, maybe you get research material discounts, but you still pay an annual fee to join.

I have been a gainfully employed MT for over 12 years and never had a hard time finding a job or ever "wishing" I had joined that place. Nobody has ever asked me for any credentials and I have always had all the information I needed, even before the Internet was our main reference.
If indeed there was a raise forthcoming (which I - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
sincerely doubt since apparently we are ALL at the top of the pay scale according to MQ), would it even equal out to what it costs to join?
Last I Heard... - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
MQ does not pay higher for a credential. You are better off spending your money learning the "harder stuff" if you haven't yet.

I have only heard of one place that will pay higher for a CMT, but it's probably not much.

Exactly ! My FT job pays me a bonus every - year for my CMT that
[ In Reply To ..]
I have had for 12 years now. I don't know if our MQ pay raise will be able to meet the expense of the CMT or not.

My bonus pretty much ALMOST covers:
1. My 135-dollar-a-year AHDI membership
2. My CMT renewal fee due every 3 years.
3. The expenses for the weekend symposia and colloquia I attend to earn the continuing ed credits required to renew the CMT, as well as the webinars that also give CEs.

I did manage to get a new nifty desk chair once though with what was "left over" -- on a very, very big sale. Otherwise, any "extra" you get for getting the CMT usually goes right back into keeping it.

Not feeling motivated to take the RMT - TNMT

[ In Reply To ..]
When I graduated from my MT program last spring, I was looking forward to taking the RMT but decided to give myself a little "real world" experience first. I was with a company doing straight typing with acute care and then, I got hired by MQ five months later and went from doing acute care to typing letters all day (rather, doing VR for letters all day). Now, I'm not sure if I could pass the RMT b/c I've been doing this crap for the last seven months! When I tested for MQ, I tested into Tier 3 but asked to do Tier 2 until I got used to the platform (I wanted to do my best). After a month, I asked what I had to do to go to Tier 3 and, of course, I have never heard back from my CCM. I was excited to start with MQ, but I feel like I am less hireable now. The recruiter totally lied to me. The communication with CCMs is awful. They don't want us to succeed. They want us to shut up and keep typing. I used to care so much about my job. I looked forward to work every day. Not now. Not sure how much more of this I can take.
I used to think I was a top-notch transcriptionist. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I, too, think my skills have suffered with the MQ experience. All the jumping from one account to the other and the ASR. My speed and accuracy are in the crapper.
Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. - TNMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I got my certificate from the local community college. I had interaction with my teachers who always seemed to have positive feedback for me. One of them told me I would have no problems in the "real world". I was hired on by the company I did my clincals with and was off QA hold after two days. I had so much confidence and felt like my skills would only get better. When I left them to go to MQ, I was doing 125+ LPH on acute care, including op notes. I would hate to see what my LPH is now on straight typing and I second guess everything I once was sure of. Talk about a bummer.

Paying for Taking the CMT and other Credentialing Tests - MT Idiot

[ In Reply To ..]
YUP. That was the FIRST PLACE my intuition took me when I read "this ADVISORY." I thought I recalled from past info gleaned somehow, somewhere, that there was a FEE for getting the certification.

As far as I'm concerned, I've been doing this work for over ten years now -- and doing it WELL without the bloody certification. I actually used to make some money doing it -- before ASL. And many's the op report I've transcribed -- sent in my OB doctors -- which do not COMPORT with labor and delivery dictation. They are clearly operative reports. Also, I was trained to do ops and was doing them for years. I stopped doing them and voluntarily dropped back "tiers" to try to save my sanity by cutting the number of different dictators (READ MUMBLERS) I got. I went to Andrews School, and I studied my posterior off, and worked like a "dog," and used all my motivation and every brain-cell I had to get a "leg up" on the work. I spent hours and hours and hours studying things on the internet --- printed out copious amounts of material to study --- bought numerous texts on laboratory testing and EKG's --- etc., etc., etc.

So that this year, I could find myself dropping to below minimum wage --- for all the reasons which YOU ALL KNOW.

My favorite part is having to look up and verify addresses for cc's in 10 different states --- when there are 10 different doctors who have either the same name or a similar name, or work for a practice with a similar name --- i.e., "Pediatric Group" Peds Group of _______________, Pediatric Pratice of __________, etc., etc., etc. Think HIPPA. GOD ALMIGHTY -- DON'T SEND A COPY TO THE WRONG DOCTOR OR 'GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL -- DO NOT PASS GO."

Another raise:

". . .will receive $0.0050 line rate increases and MTs with confirmed RMT credentials will receive $0.0025 line rate increases."

Get out the calculator again. Let's see, tenths, hundredths, thousandths, millionths, bajillionths . . .

Mine would be .8 cents more on 200 lines - Does that equal to 120.00

[ In Reply To ..]
For paying for the exam if you are a member which is 135.00 dollars for AHDI or forget ADHI and pay 200.00 dollars for the exam.

That is a lot of 0.8 each 200 lines to reach 200.00 dollars.
0.05 raise - mqmtnc
[ In Reply To ..]
I figured it up and with the CMT raise I'd make $100 more every pay period. I could have the exam covered in just a month. That's about $5200 more a year.

RMT is the test you take right after graduating... - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
If you have a couple years (or prob more) of experience, then you will want to take the CMT. That's a 0.0050 per line raise. Not much, but hey, at least they are not taking away this time. For me that would amount to about 100 more or less per month, so it's worth it. Anyone who already has their CMT (or RMT) be sure to let your CCM know that you want this raise.

Please. Do yourself a favor and dont give your hard- - earned money to those crooks. nm

[ In Reply To ..]

Well, I can't say I like or support ADHI, but - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
for about 100 extra per month in my paycheck, I'm going for it. Since we all already are free members now, and the CMT test is, what, about 300 bux, yes, I can say that it is worth it.

Yes, but remember you have to earn 36? credits - MTr

[ In Reply To ..]
I can't remember how you earn those credits, but think some of them are earned by attending ADHI meetings. Have to pay air fare, hotel, food, etc. If anyone knows how those points are earned, please let us know.

$5 for 1000, $50 for 10,000, and $100 for 20,000. For me thats about $200 a month. Definitely worth it.

of lines I get each month and times this by .0050. That gives me 110 bucks per month. Nothing to turn your nose up at.
Remember ASR rate though, - Just Sayin
[ In Reply To ..]
which is 60% of your MT rate. So if you get a 0.0050 raise and say that brings you up to 0.0850, your ASR rate will be 0.051, which is not actually a 0.0050 raise. Your raise is actually 60% of 0.0050.

I would never sell out my Americal principles for 100 bucks per month--or for ten grand per month. CMT has sold many thousands of MTs out with their support of offshoring. How can anyone support them? Just sayin.

who depend on you, things start to look different. I don't see it as helping ADHI, I'm helping my family. Yes, they may get a couple hundred bux from me for the test, but that's IT. I will maintain my credentials the free route and, like the poster below said, there ARE free ways to do it.
I'm a - CMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Here's a positive aspect of being a CMT (in my opinion anyway). In this job, the more you learn, the more you earn. The more you know, the less time you spend looking things up or you have a better idea of where to start your search for a certain term. It is not an easy test, and a lot of the things I learned while studying for it have stuck with me. In order to keep my credentials, I have to earn the CECs...more learning! I just don't think I would bother if I didn't have the CMT behind my name.

This week has been the turning point for me. As I was thinking about all of the presenters and debaters at ACE this year, they had one thing in common. What I Want From AHDI
