Shame on you AHDI - disgusted

Posted: Jul 17, 2012

They try to get you to certify as an MT, join our organization they say, some companies (although not many anymore) want you to be a CMT, yet as I went onto the website to look something up, Indian transcription companies are advertising on the Benchmark website?  How is that supporting the American MTs and you want us to pay you money every year?  Shame on you.  You will never get any of my money or support.

That is also why I refuse to use Benchmark - through MModal!

Yes, Shame On Them!!!

I believe it's unethical for AHDI to sell and/or promote products - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe AHDI has a habit of getting in bed with one group and then another. They are almost always very bad decisions. Benchmark is one of those. It was a temporary fix, bringing in new members. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in feeling undue pressure to use it. Then they have all those seminars and workshops that promote whatever someone dreams up to make money on the newest knowledge you must have to survive. The truth is, none of those things have helped anyone but the people who "sold" them to AHDI and then AHDI gets money for pressuring us to buy them.

They are wrong to think this kind of high-pressure sales is going to save the organization. The organization is only going to save itself when it becomes relevant to us, the MT---not the MTSO---not the vendors who make products and sell services---but the MTs. It may be too late for them to understand that. It may be that those in charge, the people who are on the board at this moment, just don't know what to do. That's understandable. Lots of organizations are folding these days when they become obsolete because of bad decisions made in the past. We can't go back and undo the decisions made by past AHDI and AAMT leaders. We can hope that the new group of leaders will be wiser and make better decisions. I don't have much hope of that happening. Our AAMT/AHDI leaders who looked out for themselves, promoting overseas outsourcing and making money doing it have acted imprudently. They treated their charge as if it didn't matter at all. They were placed in positions of authority and made decisions to their own benefit rather than in the interests of members.

When their actions hurt us as MTs, they excused their behavior in more ways than I can count. "We aren't a union." "We didn't make up that line count measurement." "We are there to protect and represent the patient's medical record, not the medical transcriptionist."

I respected some of those people until they proved that they couldn't be trusted.

I say this, if an officer has ever participated in sending our work overseas, they should either not be eligible for office or should be voted out. Any future leaders should have to verify that they have not acted against us before they are allowed to participate in anything AHDI does or promotes. If they have been part of outsourcing, they shouldn't be allowed to sell things to us, market products to us, write articles advising us, or be speakers at events. It's just wrong to keep rewarding people for hurting us.

Let's don't throw the organization out. Let's throw out the people who have hurt us and are still, to this day, taking money from us, convincing us that they know more than we do. Just pay them the money and they will give us products, teach us, advise us, and if we don't, we will be the losers. It's too late for that. Surely we aren't stupid enough to continue going back for more. Are we?

Maybe that's why the name was changed from "AMERICAN" Association for Medical Transcription. That was a big hint right there. Nothing American about it. They have exploited MTs for years.

That's one that Claudia didn't do. That was the man who followed her as CEO - Very bad idea no matter who did it

[ In Reply To ..]
It just seems like these people come in, make money off us by making really stupid, harmful decisions, and then bolting as soon as someone offers them a job. It probably really looks good on a resume that a person has run an organization. They don't realize they've run it alright, run it into the ground.
I saw another example of that today that shocked me - Disgusted
[ In Reply To ..]
I ran into another person who always used to run his mouth off about everything under the sun while he was involved with AAMT/AHDI. Now he is promoting something else on the coding section.
Before promoting this new Coding gig he was an MT student and carried on - and on and on
[ In Reply To ..]
That guy carried on and on about first one thing, then another. Nobody could shut him up. Then I think he got in with AHDI and now this.

You know what I'm tired of? I'm tired of people putting themselves out there as experts when they aren't. They are promoters. Experts can be good. Promoters are out to get one thing, money, from you and me.

The rules are:

Make it sound easy!
Make it sound fast!

Tell your target audience that they are smarter and better than other people. Appeal to their pride.

Don't get into the details. No facts. Just paint a beautiful picture. MTs will buy it. They will buy anything, right?

When it's all said and done, blame it on the MT when things don't turn out. Offer them a job at reduced pay. They'll take it because they believe they have to. Better still. Make it an "opportunity" they would be stupid to turn down. MTs believe anything.
You know what I'm tired of too: Bloggers and Facebook - Back To The Good Old Days
[ In Reply To ..]
I used to think it might be fun to read a blog or two and have friends on Facebook. Now it seems like every time you open your e-mail, somebody on some blog is trying to promote something, sell something, or convince you of something.

I've lost interest in all blogs. I am so bored with Facebook. All of it is just another way for salesmen/sales women to get your money.

Personally, I like a peaceful life talking to people who don't want to sell me anything or promoting anything. I guess I just like the good old days.
line counts - Me too
[ In Reply To ..]
I know this has been asked a million times, but what is the standard amount of lines per MT per Hr as stated by AHDI? Not what you personally can do, but what AHDI says... straight typing, no VR, etc... Thanks

They really mean "strive to fatten the checking accounts of the big suits, hire non-Americans, on whom you will gladly bestow you vast sum of knowledge to help train, who will work for peanuts and thereby turn what used to be a very lucrative and rewarding profession into a minimum-wage job; at the same time comproming patients' medical records and care; and, most importantly, be glad you have a job, sit there and type/wait for work, put your family life on hold indefinitely, make yourself available 7/24, maintain 98.5% to 100% accuracy or you will be written up and/or fired; and FOR GOD'S SAKE, quit your complaining and be glad you have a job!

Sorry if this offends anyone; not directly aimed at any one person. Just an old MT who is fed up and blowing off steam. I'm applying at WalMart tomorrow (really).

A Little Shame At Being An MT?
Aug 03, 2012

Does anyone feel this way about being an MT nowadays?  I am in a cycling club with a doctor and a nurse, and I was very reluctant to let them know what I do for a living, mainly because of knowing how poor the quality of transcription has gotten with offshoring, etc.   As a matter of fact, I would have kept quiet about it altogether, but my husband mentioned it at some point during a ride one day.  I was mortified.  It is terrible to not be proud of one's profession. &nb ...

It's A Cryin Shame
Dec 26, 2010

It is horrible and scary to think of the future (or lack thereof) of medical transcription.  All of the MTs I know, including myself have truly liked their job and tried to do the best we could no matter what.  We have all bought books, made notes, go online for research, worked evenings, late nights, holidays and so forth, to accommodate the companies we work for and this is the thanks we get.  Now I know the economy is in the dumper and jobs are scarce everywhere, BUT, we were t ...

MT Shame For Not Meeting TAT.
Jun 13, 2015

I am so tired of receiving the frantic emails about TAT, I am tired of being on MOT, I am tired of attempts being made to make the MTs feel like it is THEIR fault the POD has the highest number of unedited jobs in the system.  I am tired of groups being blamed for work going out of TAT when the problem is under staffing.  We are human.  We are limited in the amount of production we can crank out.  If high volume is the case for a week or two, I can understand putting in a lit ...

It's A Real Shame That These Big, Bad Monster MTSOs-
Feb 26, 2015

have to offer sign-on incentives to get MTs to apply for work. Obviously they aren't real up on what is being said on these boards about their company and could care less as long as clients are lining their pocket with the money. As long as we work for slave wages nothing is going to change. I am in the same boat as a lot of the MTs, barely getting by. I just had to say... this is my 2 cents worth ...

I Will Not Allow Keystrokes To "shame Me"
Jul 20, 2011

"Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!" Per Wikipedia this means "If you play a trick on me and I fall for it, shame on you for fooling me. But if you play a trick on me and I fall for it again, then shame on me for being foolish." What I Want From AHDI
Jun 14, 2012

People ask me what I want from AHDI or if it's worth being a member. I am a member. I ask myself why I still pay my membership dues and what I hope to get in return for that money. That's a tough question. Years ago I learned from their journal. I met lots of great people at conventions and seminars. Then the journal and web site started being more promotional instead of educational or professional. There was always something new that was going to change our lives if we would just sig ...

AHDI BOS 3
Oct 10, 2014

I recently began a new position where they adhere to the AHDI Book of Style 3 guidelines.  Obviously, not having used this version before I was not aware one of the wonderful changes AHDI has made.  I understand AHDI exists to set the standards as one of their main objectives.  I also was under the assumption that AHDI had been made up primarily of MTs (at least that is who made them to start with) and has grown to include MTSOs.  What I find so infuriating and baffling at t ...

AHDI And RMT Exam
Dec 05, 2010

I will be graduating from TTC's Medical Transcription class soon so I am now wondering if I should join AHDI and if I should take the RMT.  I have read the information on the AHDI site which of course points to the pros of both. But I have also read posts from seasoned MTs who have not joined AHDI and some of them say that taking the RMT (or CMT for that matter) carries very little, if any, weight when locating a job. I know if you join AHDI while in school you get a discount on member ...

Why Is AHDI A Scam, You Ask?
Aug 28, 2012

It was a get-rich scheme from the very beginning. Brilliant, really.
