Time to boycott MTTest.com - sm

Posted: Jan 11, 2012

Just took another test at that site and, as we all know, most of the time the tests are ridiculously easy and yet I keep failing...supposedly.  Something fishy in Vancouver:)))

I know, right!!! I've felt the same; never a response on what the issue was.... - Mrs. Pass

Creepy - Old MT

[ In Reply To ..]
That is so funny you mention that. I took one of those tests for a company that was so ridculously easy, and I flunked. I couldn't imagine how I could flunk something so easy. My current job with ALL acute care is at least 10 times harder, and I get 98-100% audit scores.

You are correct. something stinks with MTTest. - babs123

MTTest - Puzzled

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay I have taken plenty of tests on MTTest and I have never failed one. The last time I took one was about 1-1/2 years ago. Perhaps this is something recent? Otherwise, I am just a bit puzzled why companies would go to the expense of paying MTTest to test applicants and then fail them. Am I missing something here? Flame me if you must but I feel like I am asking a legitimate question here.

What you are missing - mttt

Is that there's NOTHING wrong with mttest, but the test-takers have to blame someone rather than take accountability. I've taken many tests through mttest and never failed one.

The issue isn't MTTEST. The issue is there are people who are MTs and because they've been one for 10, 15, 20+ years they think that automatically translates into skill. It doesn't.

I have certainly considered that as a possibility, having seen some really poor quality work being done, even by those who have been in the industry for a long time. That being said, I thought I should point out a major fallacy in the argument that it is because MTTest is designed to fail people. Some companies have harder tests and some have easier tests. Sometimes the downloading doesn't work well, there are technical difficulties, ESLs who you could hardly accuse of having any English ability at all, and tricky questions, but none of these problems are issues that any reasonably experienced MT shouldn't be able to successfully overcome. If an MT thinks the test was easy but still failed, maybe they should look a bit harder at their skill level and stop assuming that their many years of experience means that they aren't capable of making mistakes. In fact, it is that sort of hubris that is the problem, IMO.

The silence here is deafening. No one? No one going to defend how "crooked" MTTest is? Alrighty then.
MT Test - Employed but looking
[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't say it's "crooked" but I think there are problems with it. I don't think the transcription test is graded by humans and I think that's an issue. I've passed the testing for some companies but not others. I just took one for a well known company that I didn't pass and I am questioning that because I do think there were technical issues. Most of the time I have not been able to accept the offer of employment because the benefit packages, especially health insurance, have not been suitable for me. One thing I'd like to change would be to receive my test results or at least know how I scored.

Boycott MTTest!
Jul 15, 2010

I believe that if we all boycott MTTest, that these companies will have to find other ways to test applicants.  From this point on, I will no longer take any tests through the MTTest website.  Also, any company who throws more than 3 or 4 dictations at you for testing purposes isn't worth working for.  So, MTSOs, get ready for the onslaught because I doubt that I'm the only one willing to do this.  No company is worth the grief of having to spend hours taking tests, ...

Mttest.com - What A Waste Of My Time
Sep 17, 2010

I just had to say that when I see a company looking for MTs and they have to test through mttest, I cross them off my list of potential employment.  What a waste of my time.  Took it years ago and would never do it again.  There has to be some other way or just look at a person's resume and phone previous employers.  If I have over 25 years of experience, took pride in getting my CMT and have tons of experience in every specialty, chances are I am a good bet.  Just venting. ...

Mttest Vs Career Step Mttest
Sep 30, 2010

On the mttest site I have noticed that some are by Career Step and others are not.  I always pass the ones that are not, but when Career Step is involved, I seem to be told every time I need more schooling and this is after being an MT for 18 years and also having run my own business.  Does anyone know of any companies that do not use Career Step for testing?  Where I work now didnt and I had no problems.  Other places I worked, I was not tested with Career Step involved and ...

Using Mttest For Companies
Mar 25, 2010

How exactly do you score well on these automatically graded tests from mttest?  I am a CMT with many years experience and while I do pass, sometimes I get a score in the 80s and then other times its the high 90s.  I have been told that some let it automatically score and others manually score them.  What is the secret?  Is it just a formatting thing that throws the scores off so much? ...

MTTest - Wondering
Jul 17, 2010

Regaring MTTest and their pass/fail inconsistencies - I'm wondering if they don't set these things to fail anything after a certain number of test takers.  I'm just saying, if I were an MTSO hring a weed-wacker like MTTest, and with the high number of applicants these years, I'd be saying something on the order of "just send me the top 20."  and so MTTest takes the top 20 from say...50, or even the top from after 2 days of open testing, and then 'defaults ...

What Is The MTTest Website?
Oct 19, 2010

I'm a recent MT grad. and was wondering how this website works? Are there any websites that offer practice tests that are similar to the type online companies use? Tips For Using The Mttest.com Site
May 12, 2010

The site is very literal.  Here are some tips. Objective: 1.  Thoroughly read the instructions.  Don't try to think about the instructions - simply read them and follow them.  For example if it tells you to type the correct spelling of a word into a field (picking a misspelled word out of a phrase), only type that word - not anything else.  2.  Look up every single word and definition before you make a choice.  I don't care how much you T ...

Anyone Out There Recently Passed The Mttest.com
Mar 07, 2014

HELP? Has anyone out there recently passed the mttest.com (created by Career Step) that most all companies are utilizing to prescreen their candidates? I am a Career Step graduate (high honors) with many years experience working for a very large global transcription company; yet I cannot seem to pass the aforementioned test to save my life. I find this strange for the following reasons: 1. I passed the same (or nearly the same) test, on the 1st try, with a 99% combined score t ...

MTTest Testing Sites
Dec 09, 2014

It has been my experience that any time a company requests that you go to their testing site to complete a test, it seems to be a waste of time in screening candidates.  The audio files are extremely hard to hear and half the time the audio skips.  There should be a better way to screen applicants than by using these testing sites.  It is a no-win situation.  You spend two hours doing their screening and trying to transcribe reports that are not the work type that they are ev ...

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

Overtime Because Of The Time Clock Time Zone Change?
Feb 06, 2011

It has been inconvenient, and maybe a bit confusing at times, to check my time card hours for my shift as, because of my time zone, part of my hours show up on the next day because I work 2nd shift. I wonder if I will get overtime for yesterday, even though I did not work overtime. I had to start work several hours early because of maintenance, so all hours were completed before the hour my hours start showing up on the next day. Fine. But the last couple hours of yesterday show up as today, ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
