I worked for DIT from 01/10 through 03/10.  I quit when I didn't receive my first paycheck on time.  At this point DIT still owes me $278.  From the other posts I've seen, it looks like DIT Transcription has been doing this to their MTs for a couple of years now.  They just brought on a bunch of new clinics, yet my final paycheck from them bounced.  To add insult to injury, my bank charged ME an NSF fee.

 

Both the South Carolina Labor Board and State of South Carolina said they couldn't do anything and that I should file in small claims court.  However, a woman in FL who is owed money filed in small claims court, won, but couldn't execute the judgment because according to the Sheriff, there was no property in DIT's name.

 

Recently I contacted my congressman and am currently waiting to hear back.  What I would like to do is send him a list of all the MTs I can locate who are still owed money by DIT.  If you would like to be added to the list, please send your name, the amount you're owed, and any other information you think might be relevant to me at flowersandhearts@hotmail.com.  Other suggestions posted (and inadvertently deleted) included contacting the Attorney General's office and contacting the Federal Trade Commission.

 

Hopefully we can get the authorities to investigate this situation and stop DIT Transcription's practice of not paying their MTs once and for all.

I am not a lawyer, but common sense tells me that: If a facility/client of DIT knows that DIT is not paying those who are doing the work, AND the facility/client continues to use DIT's services, wouldn't the facility/client be liable for some kind of collusion or aiding and abetting a criminal practice?

Maybe the facilities could be notified that whatever fees they are paying for work done, are not going to those who are doing the work.

Anyone who knows the legalities of this?

I doubt you could assign any kind of third-party liability to a hospital using DIT. As to "collusion," you would have to prove INTENT on the part of the hospital, which of course, is not there. You would also have a proximate cause issue. The hospital would most certainly be let off the hook on a Motion for Summary Judgment on that one. A better course, IMHO, would be to contact the Fraud Division Attorney General for whatever state you live in as well as the Fraud Division for whatever state DIT is incorporated in, assuming that it is indeed incorporated and is not some boiler room set-up. Has anybody contacted AHDI to see if they have any information on them? I generally have contempt for AHDI, but perhaps this is one area in which they might be helpful. I do think the idea of all of the victims of AHDI coming together is a good one. I hope you sue the socks off the owner.

Check with the DA office in your area about filing charges on the bad check. We just did that and now there is a warrant out for the person who wrote the check

Filing fee plus service fee for small claims in Bexar County, Texas, is $96 and according to the clerk I talked with, you can include recovery of that amount in your claim. I owed a bit of money for last years taxes, which I do not have so am making monthly payments.  I sent in the form to request to pay monthly, but have not heard anything back.  Has anyone done this and is this unusual (that I have not heard back anything)?  I was reading all these websites and they were saying just keep mailing in what you can each month until it's paid off and then you might owe penalties, which I understand.  It stinks, but right now I have more bills ...

How many are aware of the wage disparity between different accounts (they don't find it necessary to tell us such a silly detail as the hourly wage, you have to look it up online).  With the new accounts, some pay quite low (as low as MB that no one wants to work on) and it may be a shock for those working on those accounts when they get their paychecks! Does anyone else feel this way, work hard, trying to do a good job, need to pay the bills, need the insurance and end up with $80 for a full day's work and that is sometimes on a good day but $10.00 per hour seems to be on average what I get, after looking up docs, looking up meds, relistening to blanks, relistening to diagnosis, trying to understand lab values and yada, yada, yada.  Everyday becomes a marathon just to make $10 bucks an hour - haven't earned so little for man ...

My employer, who has several VA contracts, was audited by the DOL last year.  The findings of the audit were that the employer should have been paying us the prevailing hourly wage because the contracts were federal government contracts.  Many people got back pay for the period of time for which the books were audited, but not everyone did because the DOL only audited one of our accounts.  Even though all the rest of the MTs were paid exactly the same way (on a production basis), ...
