Money Owed - Meh

Posted: Apr 14, 2015

I haven't filed any tax forms since I've been working here. Not really financially literate But my sister told me that I should file tax form and determined that I owe about $800 for 2014. I thought I made little money as it is let alone have to pay an additional $800 for working at Nuance during 2014.

Would Like To Know - Meh

I'm not sure why I got a dislike for my posting. However, I would like to know if others have owed hundreds of dollars also when filing their taxes for the year.

Probably someone just disliking that you - have to pay. nm

Taxes - Radass

1400 here. That's every year. All the good tax deductions grew up and moved away. And I have to keep giving them money so they won't come back. But this is better than it was when I worked as a contractor. I'm on a handy dandy payment plan with Uncle Sam paying back 24,000 in taxes that I racked up as a contractor. It happens. File those taxes today even if it's just an extension because that non-filing penalty stings worse than the penalty for waiting until October to pay.

Not being financially literate is not - xx

an adequate excuse for not filing your taxes. You're going to have to pay that eventually, and if you keep sticking your head in the sand and ignoring it, it is just going to get worse and worse with penalties and interest.

not real sure - what you mean

[ In Reply To ..]
that you haven't filed your taxes since you have worked for N, but it sounds like you're not having enough taken out of your check for reason for another? are you single, married with children, head of household or what? it also depends on which form you are eligible to fill out, i.e, ez or 1040a. regardless, you have to file taxes. that's one of our 'rights' as a US citizen. another poster was right ... it will only grow and never ever go away until paid.

Head In Sand - Meh

I'm an isolated disabled individual who had no parental guidance. That explains why. Now don't harangue me because I'm not using it as an excuse, but when you've lived my circumstances, you have to figure out everything yourself later in life.

didn't mean to - offend you

[ In Reply To ..]
was really only trying to give some insight.
No Offense - Meh
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't find your comment offensive, but I was just explaining why I've had my head in the sand. I just don't understnad why I get dislikes, however, for my posting. The only explanation is the dislikes are from judgmental people who cannot understand why one may be completely financially illiterate (and I know in my case it's not due to irresponsibility on my part).

Why Dislikes - Meh

[ In Reply To ..]
Do I get dislikes for posting this comment because I'm financially illiterate? Or do I get dislikes because I'm being irresponsible, in the dislikers' opinion? I'm just trying to figure things out. Can't help it if I've been disadvantaged. Again, not using it as an excuse but just explaining why I'm impractical and have my head in the sand (but trying to take it out). However, I've said nothing wrong but only trying to help myself and therefore taking responsibility. This forum has so many negative people.
i'm truly sorry - about the dislikes
[ In Reply To ..]
it was not me. just as advice from a 51-year-old who has been doing this since i was 18, file your taxes and set up a payment arrangement with the irs for your back-taxes due and file every year from here on out.
Final Comment - Meh

Thank you for your remark. I found this comment and maybe one or two other comments to be supportive. However, I find this forum to be overall negative and it would behoove me not to frequent this forum again, actually. I think more of my time can be more well-spent educating myself on things that I missed out on.
Meh - keep in mind the IRS will tell you what - you owe based on the numbers
[ In Reply To ..]
alone. If you were to file a return and take all your deductions you are entitled to (they don't know about that as they only run the basic numbers in coming up with their "bill") chances are you will not owe, or maybe a small amount. Have you taken all your home office deductions? Use something like turbotax or HRblock online. I wouldn't let it just sit as that $800 has the potential to turn into 3 times that amound with interest and penalites. IRS debt is something you don't want to carry. Good luck!
Who cares about dislikes? - Radass
[ In Reply To ..]
Don't take it so personally. This is an anonymous forum. Nobody even knows who you are. Maybe they had a bad day at Nuance. Lots of those around. You had a good thread here with a lot of hits. Who cares if someone doesn't like whatever about it? No skin off your back. I hope you got the information you need. Don't worry about the rest. Remember, you can't please everyone all the time so there's absolutly no point in even trying.

FYI For Others Owed Money By Omniscribes. Sm
May 01, 2013

Filing fee plus service fee for small claims in Bexar County, Texas, is $96 and according to the clerk I talked with, you can include recovery of that amount in your claim. This has gone on for too long. She violated her contract/agreement with us when she continually missed the payments, so any agreement not to let others know about this is void. Obviously, the best way to avoid having people post about an MTSO and her late paying practices is to be on time with your payments. ...

Wages Owed - Help Me Out Here
Mar 10, 2012

I've got the form to file a complaint re:  Not getting paid for research, verifying patient name, cruddy dictators who shouldn't be in VR/ASR, etc. The person filing the complaint has to figure out how much the employer owes - any suggestions, or examples?  Say, for over a year's time? My example would be:  It takes 8 minutes to go through all my emails (a requirement of my job) weekly (yes, I timed myself) - so that's 8 x 4 = 32 minutes a month JUST for emai ...

Those Owed Wages By DIT Please Read!!!
Jul 10, 2010

I worked for DIT from 01/10 through 03/10.  I quit when I didn't receive my first paycheck on time.  At this point DIT still owes me $278.  From the other posts I've seen, it looks like DIT Transcription has been doing this to their MTs for a couple of years now.  They just brought on a bunch of new clinics, yet my final paycheck from them bounced.  To add insult to injury, my bank charged ME an NSF fee.   Both the South Carolina Labor Board and State of ...

Anyone Ever Pay Monthly Taxes For Taxes Owed
May 12, 2014

I owed a bit of money for last years taxes, which I do not have so am making monthly payments.  I sent in the form to request to pay monthly, but have not heard anything back.  Has anyone done this and is this unusual (that I have not heard back anything)?  I was reading all these websites and they were saying just keep mailing in what you can each month until it's paid off and then you might owe penalties, which I understand.  It stinks, but right now I have more bills ...

BIG MONEY
Jul 28, 2010

Okay, so I signed on with Transcend because they said, "Do you want to be guaranteed $900 per pay period as full time?" Well, sure. That sure reeled me in. I had always been afraid they ran out of work. Now it turns out that you HAVE to earn $900 IN ORDER TO BE full time. Big difference! It's like saying, "If you win the Olympic gold medal, you'll be guaranteed a first-place finish!" Or, "If you win the election, you'll be guaranteed more votes than your opponent!" It's so ba ...

How Do I Get My Money?!
Nov 21, 2011

Ok, finally, the horrors have happened to me. All was well, but now I'm getting seriously pissed. I work 8 hour shifts 5 days a week. Those hours are mandatory. My pay is equalling less than minimum wage. I e-mailed the company asking them about having to pay me minimum wage given the mandatory hours. The only response I got was "I'll look into it." That was over a week ago. In addition, the platform we use that records our lines is not recording all my jobs! I write down all the job ...

If You're In It Just For The Money, Don't Become An MT
Sep 03, 2012

I've had the same line rate (9 cpl) for 5 years, and I notice the new accounts they offer MTs pay 7.5 or 8 cpl at most. I must admit, though that I do work for a great company (I've been with them 12 years); they offer lots of flexibility (no required shifts or hours, just a reasonable line quota), payment promptly by direct deposit twice a month like clockwork, an easy to use transcription platform and wonderful QA and support staff. I have a lot of job satisfaction, though for my yea ...

Where Does The Extra Money Go?
Sep 27, 2010

I assume that the MT companies set up a contract with the client for them to pay on a per-line basis.  Of course, they charge more than they pay us; that's how they make their money & that's fine.  But what I'm wondering is... when we get a report that comes in as VR instead of straight typing, where does the extra money go, since we get paid less for VR.  I feel like I work just as hard, if not harder on VR than typing a report.  So why don't we make ...

Does Anybody Make Any Money At This? Sm
Jan 18, 2011

I've heard of more MTs NOT making any money than making money.  I've worked from home before but had to work full-time from home and part time at the hospital just to pay the bills then ended up quitting at home and went back to the hospital full time because I could make more money working from the hospital 40 hours than working 60 hours between the two.  I loved working from home but I couldn't make any money at it.  But at the time I only had 2 years' ...

The Q Must Be Making A Lot Of Money Off Me.
Feb 13, 2011

I calculated my hourly pay for this week. Mind you, I gave it all my effort every day this week. Drum roll..... I made $6 per hour. Because we have to be paid at least minimum wage, I get paid $8 per hour. My accounts are 99% ASR. I have been getting paid minimum wage for sometime now. If they weren't making plenty of money off me, they would have let me go some time ago. ...

For Those Making Little Money (or Who've Had A Big Cut In Pay) - Sm
Feb 23, 2012

Day after day, I read comments here about people making less than minimum wage... or women who used to make a solid middle class living at this who now cry when they look at their W2... or who made in 2011 what they made in 1993. I'm curious to know why you continue to put up with this.  What is holding you back from seeking a better situation?  What are your circumstances?  Do you have low self-esteem?  Trapped in Appalachia with 2 hours to the closest hospital?  ...

What Happened To The Money???
Oct 08, 2012

I know, I know, but I'm desparate!! I used to work for a company who, I thought, paid extremely well; almost $40,000/year.  Now, I'm a single mom, working from home, full time, and can barely make it pay check to pay check.  Does anyone know a great paying company? Naive, I know, but somebody out there has gotta know something??? I'm not a newbie, I've been transcribing acute care for over 15 years.  But, this is not working out at all.  After my divorce, ...

More Money Editing??

I have been a transcriptionist for 30+ years. This past year, the hospital I was working for replaced myself and 27 other fabulous ladies with an outside service. MTs Making Big Money
May 07, 2013

Just saw some gab on a mt group on facebook (not naming which), stating that people are out there making 800 a week on straight typing. Where are these jobs...I want one. This discussion had me thinking that I missed the boat somewhere or someone is telling tales... ...

Making No Money
Aug 31, 2013

I work for a company that I make NO money.  YES, I am seeking other employment, I'm not just sitting there whining about it, but rather just keeping some income while I look for more income.  I have barely had work this week and even when I do have work, the VR system is so bad that I really don't clear minimum wage.  So, today, apparently they are behind and I'm getting emails every hour or so that say "You ladies need to jump in and help, make this money while you can"  I me ...

Can You Make Money Just Doing Editing?

Seriously inquiring as to whether or not there are MMEs out there making what they made when they were just QA.  If so, do you have full listen reports for more than half your day? If so, do you have any helpful hints?  MT/MEs are moving into the MME positions and I feel so bad that they have no idea what they are getting themselves into.  Hope you all make more than me.  As of the new year I will be looking for different employment.  So sad 20 years later and I'm n ...
