Paid per dictated minute? Can anyone shed light? - MT4Life

Can anyone shed any light on getting paid per the audio minute? I have only been paid per line and I can't even fathom how this would compare? Anyone have any experience this way? Please help ladies! Thanks!!

Industry average: 3:1 ratio. So it should take you 3 minutes to transcribe 1 minute of dictation.

The thing about being paid this way is you have to rely on AVERAGES.

If you have dictators that are way fast, or you have work that requires you to input lots of demographic information, etc, then you'll not make any money unless you have access to many templates.

OTOH, if the dictators are slow, you sit and wait while they hem and haw, you make out.

If this is the job that someone was talking about recently where they had lots and lots of really short dictations but lots and lots of demographics, pulling in old reports, etc, then I'd keep looking, you'll lose your shirt on that job.

My thoughts - Depends

On my current accounts I get a lot of dictators who take forever to dictate and thought this would be advantageous. I recently took a job that paid by the minute, but it seemed impossible to make any money. I was going along as fast as I could but wasn't making any money. I did 10 minutes of dictation in an hour (which would have been $10 when paid by minute) and that equated to 201 lines (which would have been $16 if paid my current cpl). My daily average was about $25-30 less than what I would have made if paid by the line (for 6 hours of work). I just couldn't justify working that hard for so much less than I would be making if paid by the line.

One suggestion for you is to make sure you get all the details, which some recruiters aren't too good about giving out. Is there a minimum amount that you are paid for each dictation--like a 15-second dictation would be paid at a minimum of 1 minute, etc. The details could make the difference.

Thank you... - MT4Life

Thank you kindly for your opinions. I guess I will have to ask more questions. I guess a lot of it depends on the dictators as well as platform. I just don't want to make the wrong decision and end up in the poor house!

Maybe they could work fo ...
