Does anyone know of hospitals in Phoenix that have a transcription department? - Private messages are fine.

Posted: Aug 08, 2013

I will be relocating there soon for my husband's job and need to find another hospital or clinic transcription job. I'll wash dishes somewhere before I go back to one of the nationals after what I experienced with Nuance purchasing my wonderful company, so I'd really like to find something in a local hospital. If they let us work remote after a short training period, pretty much anywhere in Arizona would do.

Feel free to send a private message if you don't any to cause a flood of applicants someplace. I have 13 years of experience including teaching hospitals and am very good at my job. I can back it up on live written and transcription tests and have good references. I know people worry about sending any random person to the good employers, so I feel I need to state some of that. :-) Any info is greatly appreciated. I'm working on finding this info myself as well, but any heads-ups would be fabulous.

Im typing on my phone, so I apologize if autocorrect took some liberties with my word choices.

Hospital transcription in AZ - AnOldMT

Three years ago, I was laid off at one of the last hospitals that had an in-house medical transcription department in the Phoenix area. I don't know of any other hospitals in the area who have in-house transcription; all the work has been outsourced as far as I can tell and I haven't been able to find any transcription positions here and have almost 40 years of experience. Good luck!

ditto and includes all surrounding areas to Phoenix like Sun City, etc. Closest I've - seen lately have been ads

for in-house down in Tucson and up in Flagstaff.

Well, darn. Looks like it may be time for a career change then. - Good jobs are so hard to find.

My short experience with being acquired by Nuance was one of the worst periods in my life, no exaggeration. I absolutely love the hospital that I'm working for. I'm so sad to leave it.

There are two that are in-house in Phoenix - justsayin

Mayo Clinic is still in-house and so is Scottsdale Healthcare. Scottsdale Healthcare is not hiring anymore. Several have retired in the past 3 months. They are mostly VR, the ER has used Dragon for 3 years or scribes and they outsource Acute Care to stay in TAT rather than hire or provide OT. I give them 6 months or less before fully outsourced. Mayo also uses VR, not sure what percentage. Not hiring. I just retired after 25 years. Get a HIT AAS degree and move into other areas. Transcription is on its last legs.

Hospital Transcription Department To National Company

Is there anybody here who worked for a hospital in the transcrption department only to have their jobs yanked out from under t hem and sent to a National such as Nuance?  I know somebody who works for a local hospital and it looks like they secretly are in the process of making this move....some very strange secretive things going on that makes me wonder...... What was the  process for your hospital if this happened to you?????  I'm wondering if my suspicions are spot-on. &nb ...

AAMT Book Of Style To Be The Set Rules For Our Transcription Department?
Jan 19, 2010

I am currently looking for a new online job.  I have been doing medical transcription for nine years now but work for a small hospital.  I do not currently have, nor does my hospital require, the AAMT book of style to be the set rules for our transcription department.  We still use q.h.s. etc.  I recently had a job interview but blew it because the company requires their MTs to know the latest AAMT book of style front and back.  Is this a big deal to know this book word for word?  Wonderin ...

US Transcription And Phoenix Medcom
Jan 21, 2010

Curious about the good, bad and ugly on each of these companies? I applied to both and have been accepted at Phoenix, but wanting to know more about from anyone working for them or having worked for them. I was laid off recently from another well known company talked about here on this board quite a bit recently, and am looking for another IC gig so I found Phoenix Medcom and hopefully found a good fit and a new home! Thanks! ...

There Goes Another MT Department. S/m
Nov 24, 2013

I have a sister who is the head of med rec in a hospital in Iowa. This hospital is part of a large system. They are moving to VR within the next year. Those MTs are worried about their jobs. I told my sister to give them a heads up - their $20+/hour jobs will be gone. Their superb benefits will be gone. I feel for them - this is happening to all of us - being paid peanuts for our experience and knowledge. They already have EMR in place and there are patients who, once they've log ...

Department Capitalization
Aug 23, 2012

I have been going back and forth on this, but doc says, "He was also found to be hypertensive. Patient's hypertension was managed by *anesthesia* and a 12-lead EKG was obtained." My gut is wanting to capitalize anesthesia to show that it was the anesthesiologists in the Anesthesia Department who managed the hypertension rather than anesthesia itself, but then again, maybe not? Would it be safer to not capitalize it? ...

To Capitalize Or Not...department Names
May 24, 2010

When do you capitalize departments?  I have been in the biz for 10 years, and my current QA staff is giving me conflicting feedback on my capitalization.  One QA manager is giving me errors for not capitalizing, the other is giving me errors when I do!  I was always taught that you didn't capitalize the department unless it was preceded by the proper name of the hospital (XYZ Hospital Emergency Department, etc). Also, as far as specialties, how do you handle those?  For ...

Capitalization - Department Is Used As An Entity
Aug 30, 2011

I have always been under the impression that when a department is used as an entity, such as "The patient was seen by the Pulmonary Department," that it would be capitalized.  If it were "The patient was seen in the pulmonary department," it would not be capitalized.  This is to denote that in the first example, the patient was actually seen by a person, not by the department itself (a thing).  I think this is an important distinction for clarity.  The account I am on is saying that pulmo ...

Hospital Medical Records Department
Nov 14, 2009

With HIPAA regulations tightening on who can get a carbon copy of a patient's medical record, MTs should NOT have the responsibility of sending any carbon copies at all.  All carbon copy requests for a patient's records should go directly to the hospital's medical records dept for a signed release verification from the patient for that copy to be sent.  Reports being sent from any outside provider without the proper signed release from the patient should be consider ...

Survey Of Interest For Department Of Labor Suit.
May 07, 2015

I've been observing Medquist/M*modal for the past number of years since their previous law suit. The technologies they have employed as of late are widely viewed as intentionally inhibiting, many employees stating that this speech recognition program, as well as constant shuffling of work pools, or "pods" prevent the familiarity that is central to profit, accuracy, and productivity. I intend to gauge the interest and willingness of participation in the current M*modal employee community. Pl ...

Why Don't Hospitals . . .
Aug 22, 2014

. . . and larger medical facilities hire disenfranchised MLS to dictate their doctors notes instead of sleep deprived nurses and residents who can't put 2 words together???  I'm not saying all RNs and residents dictate poorly, but in my experience a huge proportion leave a lot to be desired.   What with the doctor and nurse shortage, doesn't it make sense to utilize the MLS' command of medical language?   It would free up the nurses for nursing, the ...

Hospitals/outsourcing
