Any information on SoftScript - Sad MT

Posted: Oct 22, 2013

Any information on SoftScript would be greatly appreciated.  Are they really 100% U.S. based, good/bad to work for, etc.?  My situation is becoming dire, am running out of work daily and have to find another position.

they have a clunky platform, many extra steps for each job before you can upload - crazy long acct specs sm

[ In Reply To ..]
they brag about how their line count requirement is lower than most -- well duh becuase you have to have 3 or more screens open at a time, constantly going back and forth and if you click this before you click that then you're screwd and the job won't upload right -- they will HOUND you over not getting some minute detail right in the account specs which are long, convoluted and time conuming to navigate -- they could be good but man could they use some streamlining in their processes -- oh and training, you will sit on the phone for 2 hours and listen to someone read you the account specs word for word, umm I can read for myself thnks !

Thanks for the information. Sounds like I'd be going from one bad situation into anoher. Maybe I should just quit and apply for welfare. Have been sending resumes out, am getting nowhere fast and my finances are at the point where this may be the month I finaly totally crash, burn, and have no roof over my head.

give them a try i disagree with the poster - LA

i think the platform is excellent and very quick and easy to use and we have excellent PMs!!
there are much more efficient programs out there, not having to search and apply and add - in seprate windows -- look around
[ In Reply To ..]
if you've never worked on a great plaform then yes you could be duped into thinking this one is great -- trust me -- even Dictaphone is more efficient that this POC
not sure what you mean there is only one screen - LA

To LA - GET A FREAKIN CLUE - Sheila
[ In Reply To ..]
Your post proves you do not use the program on daily basis. Yes there is 1 screen for the client. Then you have to go to Word to type your report. BUT with certain clients (most), you have to search demos, search docs, or better yet go to the reference site and get demos.......This is EXTRA work that the MTs DO NOT GET PAID FOR! Along with the simple fact that the AS are extremely ridiculous. Again taking more study/research time. AGAIN work the MTs are NOT GETTING PAID FOR! To all: I left this company after many, many years of service to them. Am I a "mad" ex-employee, absolutely not. Am I tired of people getting the shaft......absolutely yes. Remember to make the company responsible for every tidbit you have to do that YOU are NOT paid for. File the right paperwork, etc. This is no matter who you work for. Most MT companies try to screw people just because we work from home. Stand up for yourself!!!!!!
disgruntled much?? LMAO - mpr
[ In Reply To ..]
have been there a lot of years and there is one screen and its the word screen in the client
I am not disgruntled at all! They were great! at ONE time! Things change - Sheila
[ In Reply To ..]
If you were there longer than I was.... good for you! and it worked for you! It was great for me! I loved it until CR was put over it and then.......... yea not so much. She is so NOT a people person. Treats her managers like crap. So again..........not disgruntled. but I know how they really work. Sorry but MY opinion after 8 years
i have been there over a decade and never heard of a Sheila - mpr

I know the feeling of doom. I don't know where you live but you may qualify for food stamps. I qualified when I was on unemployment. (still am). I also qualified for energy assistance. If you apply, DO NOT answer "yes" to the question (Do you want to apply for the PIPP Plus program). Just apply for your energy assistance. Either electric, or heating or both. Never PIPP. I made that mistake and my next bill was 3 times higher than my usual bill. And I had to reverse the process. So now I at least have a credit of 353 dollars and don't have to pay the electric bill for a while. Anything to bide time till I find a job. I'm 61 and its really hard to find a job outside the house (when you're a bit crippled). It's scary so if you're not crippled you can get a cashier job at a pet shop or a store. I can't stand for a long time or I would do it. You'll be happier and make more money.
It is horrible how many of us are - In The Same Boat
[ In Reply To ..]
First of all, thank you for your advice about the energy assistance. So many times a person just does know what to do when first applying.

I was struck by how similar your situation is to so many MTs of a certain age. Everyone says, "Go get another job" when I tell them what's happened to transcription, but the change in this industry could not have come at a worse time for me and so many others age-wise. Not only are we an ageist society in general, but many of us do have health problems. And we're tired and depressed which makes it even harder to have the necessary energy to make a major change.

I was in management at SS years ago. Worst place I - me

[ In Reply To ..]
ever worked. When you've worked for a good company as I have, working for a company like SS afterwards makes you realize how horrendous they are. If you need a job and they are your only option I would take the job, but I would continue looking for something better.

LA may love it there, but for her one positive post there are probably 10 posts about how horrendous they are. With that many negative posts you can't blame it all on the MT and company not being a good fit, a poor quality MT, etc.

I don't know what situation you are in, but SS is the worst job I have had sm - in my 35+ years as an MT

I ran out of work constantly, except for Friday and Saturday. I was asked to sit there and check every 1/2 hour or hour for work (I don't remember which), so maybe in an 8-hour shift, I'd have 500 lines. If you document it that way, then you are only doing 62.5 lph, which would be grounds for termination. If you "fudge" your time sheet and say you only did those 500 lines in 3 hours, then you do not qualify for benefits. Communication was horrible and as the other person said, the platform was slow and clunky. It is straight typing and they do pay decent with weekend and shift differential, but I wouldn't rely on it for my primary income. Good luck, whatever you do.

WE ARE OVERFLOWING WITH WORK!!! - LA

Yeah, for about 40 minutes - Foolmeonce

[ In Reply To ..]
Management panics and sends out emails about lots of work and how everyone needs to help because we are falling behind (although I have no STAT jobs in my Q, so how can we can be that far behind??), so then everyone does, and after about 40 minutes I get the NJA message. Really, it's ridiculous. Why can't they have a couple of MTs on an as-needed basis float to cover those accounts that occasionally build up?
Why can't a couple of MT's float as-needed?? - missyB

[ In Reply To ..]
I loved it there but I was getting so little work I had to quit. I hate where I am now but at least I can get lines. The workflow was also screwy. I think LA must be in management.

I am an MT.

I used to have lots of work in my own accounts - SSMT

[ In Reply To ..]
That was until the last year or 2 when they kept hiring MTs on my accounts, so there are too many MTs and not enough work, and then I get shoved out constantly to all the extra accounts. Of course it would make too much sense for them to put the new MTs they hire on the accounts that are always behind instead of expecting the MTs they already have established on accounts getting pushed out and having to keep up with 15-20 other accounts. My primary account has changed so many times over the years and can't remember the last time I even got work in my own accounts instead of all the tertiary accounts I get stuck with every day I get the dreaded message saying there are no more jobs.

LA, you have a good attitude and that is probably - wise one

[ In Reply To ..]
why you get the work.

I worked for SoftScript for awhile after working for the "Q." I will tell you that I hated it there, but that doesn't mean it is all bad. There are pros and cons. I know someone who works there and is very happy with it. I say give it a try and see if it works out for you. The pros are that it is all US-based, all straight transcription, and so you can make some money. My friend loves her manager but I didn't like mine. They give you a mentor for the first few weeks of employment (although mine went on vacation after the first few days). There are 2 big cons in my opinion. One is the platform they use is not user friendly at all and not geared toward production. God forbid the dictator tell you at the end of the report that it is a different report type than they told you at beginning, or that you need to change the report type. You will have to cut the report, then re-do the demographics to change the report type, and then paste the report into the new template. QA is hard-core, and I was an MT for over 25 years when I started there. The acct specs are the worst I have ever seen (and lengthy). When you are out of work, you go into a pool of accts you have never had, so then you have to add all those acct specs to your file. Sometimes you are going back and forth between accts, so hard to keep the specs straight. Each acct spec error in a report is a major error, so it is hard to pass QA on a consistent basis. Would be a great company to work for if they would streamline their process. Good luck to you.

another con - justme

I forgot to tell you that the PTO is one of the worst in the industry. I think you get a week paid after you have been there 2 years, and the first year the newest MTs have to work all the holidays.

I agree with SM as above (1st post) to everything. SoftScript rep promised TONS OF WORK!! Yeah, right. My production manager would freak at 2 accounts out of 20 having 60 small jobs in the queue (other accounts would have maybe 0-4 jobs), allow make-up time to all other MTs, if editors were slow they were allowed to transcribe, and within an hour no more work. Most days, log on, no work. Was told check back every 1/2 hour and WOW! there'd be 1 job to do. Never got a job over 5 minutes long. This happened all too often; I'd make $20 per 8-hour shift and I have 17 years' experience. And having the trainer read the account specs/instructions to me very fast annoyed me too! Needless to say, don't waste your time with this one either.

Any New Information About TTS?
Mar 21, 2010

Hi, I am speaking with TTS about a job.  The thing that I am concerned about is they said in their introduction that, "Production time is tracked off the technology system and monitors the time you are actually in the document working (hands on the keyboard or foot on the pedal).  If you are idle in excess of 4 minutes the time stops tracking.  You must remain actively working.  If you are researching etc, give it 3 minutes." I am assuming this means that you if you get ...
