Remote MTs using Dragon Medical for typing reportsmote users - Pauline

Posted: Jan 28, 2012

Hi guys:  I used to a hospital MT with just straight typing.  I was paid by hour, good job, then outsourced to making cents a line.  I had a job for 3 years with company only paying VBC.  I had to have a job with benefits so I took it and lasted with them for 3 years until they lost the account.

Now I have landed a job with just straight typing, but still VBC.  They line count is very very high and I am struggling to make the lines.  I even had an expander, but still is a struggle.  My line count used to be 10 cents a line and 10.5 for weekends.  This job pays even less but again I needed a job.

Their program is basically word.  My question is, have any of you purchased Dragon Medical Speech Program for typing your reports and not telling your boss for those of you that work remotely?  I know this would help me meet their requirements and most likely if I do not make it in 90 days that is it for me.  I love this account and good doctors, sooooo thankful for that.  I have had my share of bad dictators.   For any of you that use speech  programs, do you feel it actually does help type the reports faster?  Dragon is so expensive, but I am getting kind of desperate.   Company line requirement is close to 1400 VBC.  I used to have a job that their requirement was only 800 VBC and it was a  struggle even to get that some days.  Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.   My work looks great, but the line count issue is a whole other story.  I was never a speed demon anymore, but more on the accurate side.   I would hate to purchase that program and it not work.

Don't know about expense, but QVC had it after Christmas for less than $100. - ??

I don't know a lot about the Dragon, but I watched right after Christmas on QVC the hosts were demonstrating the dragon voice recognition system. It was going for less than $100 and I didn't see why it wouldn't work for what we do. Don't know, something to check on I guess.

VR Dragon - crystal

Student copies of Dragon go for $100, regular version 11 goes for $200+. If you buy the medical version?? I thought that the medical was strictly for clinics and larger companies. I also thought it was very expensive. As a student on SUM program I ONLY use VR - version 11. I use voice expansion created by me, and I can follow a good dictator at about 3-4 words behind what they voice. Yes, it's listening and talking at the same time. I was introduced to that when working for hard-of-hearing clients at a company via phone.
VR is here to stay. I only type about 70 wpm. I guess I am one person that MUST work out their home.

Dragon Medical
Aug 26, 2012

My son's pediatrician says she tried the Dragon product for doctor's to dictate and edit their own work.  She says Vyvanse came out as underpants and every time she tried to correct it, it came out something else - even after she spelled it.  She gave up -- what a surprise.....   I think that has a place in clinic work, if doctors aren't pressed to see a thousand patients in a day by their employer, but definitely not fit for hospital dictation.  Frankly, I w ...

New To Medical Transcription-Dragon?

I'm new to medical transcription and thinking about buying Dragon software.  Does it work on wav files from different doctors?  If you have a Mac and MacSpeech could you transfer those files to the Mac and then back to the PC to send back?  I don't want all of my work done through Dragon, I just want it more for clarification and accuracy.     Thanks! ...

Dragon Medical 360 - EScription
Mar 28, 2014

Question for those who work from home on eScription -  Dragon Medical 360, what is the real purpose of doing:  Alt + . when one, when at the right point, can just do "." on its own?  Does that have something to do with how Nuance charges the client for lines?  I was just wondering if anyone knows.  Appreciate an answer to this. ...

Dec 08, 2011

Can you resell Dragon Naturally Speaking software by Nuance?  I'm looking to upgrade from Dragon Medical 9/10 to 11, which is now called Dragon Medical Practice Edition, and the upgrade costs $599.  Can a person who has bought this sell it if they no longer use it?  Does anyone ever see either the program itself or the upgrade for resale?  Has anyone seen it for less than $599 lately?  Far as I can tell this Medical version isn't even sold at Nuance anymore, ju ...

Dec 29, 2014

It was recently suggested to me that I get Dragon Medical practice Edition, Version 2 for use on transcription, coding, billing and editing. As someone who works from home, I am hoping to investigate the pros and cons of investing in this program and whether its worth it ($1,399.00!!) Does anyone have any experience using this program for transcription, etc who would like to comment? Is it worth the time investment and the money investment? Is the program fairly easy to set up and use ie: l ...

Remote Scribes
Jun 24, 2013

We all know the frustration in dictation where they don't use a pause button, how our salaries dwindle to nothing as a result.  I noted an ad on the Job Seeker's Board to train to become a "remote scribe" for .07 to .08 CPL.  Doesn't it seem this would also dwindle to nothing as it seems there would be far more waiting for data to enter and would take forever to complete a line if you are working in real time.  Anyone have any info on how this would work? ...
