beyond discouraged RE QA audits - NMT

Posted: Apr 29, 2012

I don't usually post here - guess I've reached my discouragement limit for the night! I work on a very difficult account as I'm sure many of you do as well, and I spend a great deal of time listening and re-listening to these difficult dictators to make sure I am hearing correctly.  I just checked my audits again and see that I have received another 1 point deduction on a post audit for something they heard differently that I apparently did.  It frustrates me no end that there is no way that I can re-listen to the dictation myself but just have to take their word that what they heard is correct.  This has happened before recently and it is beyond discouraging -- I really do work hard at being accurate.  Sorry, just very discouraged these days; ust needed to share, I guess, no one else to share this stuff with.  I've been doing this for a very long time (I know, that doesn't necessarily make me a good transcriptionist) and I feel like I've worked hard to do a very good job.  Thanks for "listening."  :)

you CAN check the report and relisten thru escription - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
using the job number listed on the correction. Go to the escription website, log in using your log in info and search for dictation. The info for you to do this is located on the info you were given when hired that contains all your passwords. Check that to get the exact website info, as I cannot think of it at the moment as I am not logged in/working at the moment.

I don't work on the escription platform and have been told that they cannot pull the jobs back in for me to listen to on my platform.

Okay, in all situations such as this I think we should - refuse to accept the error. Formally. SM

[ In Reply To ..]
We're typically far more experienced on the dictators involved, and we all know from experience how far from perfect QA reviews can be. It's one thing to shrug at some QA claim when it doesn't cost you anything, another to lose several hundred to potentially thousands of dollars of earned income.

If we can't verify the error, we should not accept it.

I am new and just looked at my first FIESA report and don't understand some of the corrections. Why on a lot of them it shows ERROR: your dictation and then underneath CORRECT: they have the exact same thing typed with no difference. There was nothing taken off but it didn't make any sense

In FIESA, the "post audit" reports count towards your bonus. The "pended audits" are information and do not count towards/against bonus. Hope this helps.

I am a little confused, but I thought my supervisor sent an email a while back saying that our FIESA scores do NOT affect our incentive pay ... only the quarterly random review. She said the FIESA scores are only to "help" us.

Has anyone else heard this? Or did I miss understand? (Of course, I can't find the email now to see exactly what she said.)
That sounds familiar. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can find that. (nm) - anon

I am also going to miss out on the incentive because of one big mistake. Three reports checked - 100% on two of them and one very, very long report came in at 94.7% because of one big error (a drug sound-alike) and a bunch of little ones (the 0.25) ones that make absolutely no difference in the report. I accept the drug mistake, but it was almost as if QA looked until they found enough little ones to bring the average down below what is required for the incentive. I have estimated that in 3 months, I will loose nearly $1000.00 in incentive because of it. I came in with Webmedx and in the 4 years that I worked for Webmedx, I never had a QA evaluation below 99% and most were 100%. I am so tired of this. I don't mind ISR - on Enterprise - I actually can do fairly well on it if I stick with it, but I have to make up my mind now that I will not try to get the incentive because for the next 3 months, does it even matter what my QA score is? I'm screwed anyway.
Is there anybody with this huge company that would actually take time to listen? I would be willing to make a phone call or send an e-mail but who is it?

To Tired - Goner

[ In Reply To ..]
Same boat here....99% accurate for 6 years at Webmedx, now 97 due to omission of ONE word. Thus, my supervisor is waking to my notice tomorrow. When one figures it out, for me, it is 3200.00 loss for one word. Like you, the other 2 reports were 100%. I am not working one more minute for a company like this. All they will be left with his newbies, which is fine for them less money to pay out.

same here also.... - nuancemt

I am so over this company. I'm moving within the year. I'm not giving a notice either - just email with "I quit"

They want to screw me over with this so-called incentive pay and the low wages - why should I give notice?
I could have written it. I do a very good job, look up every address - and name spelling, am fast AND conscientious, but
[ In Reply To ..]
QA came along and, like you, and true or not, it seemed as if reports were mined for little nothing stuff, apparently unable to assign me even a tacky paper star for the overall excellence. I haven't lost my incentive yet, but it's obviously a matter of time and bad luck before I have to try to fight for what I've earned. Money. I don't look for or need stroking from people I'll never meet, but if there's a time for weighing in good performance, during audit would be it.

Oh, I'm sure I made a lot of the mistakes listed. I was embarrassed, but I was even more surprised than I should have been because that sure was not my everyday performance. Maybe it was a bad day; I do have them occasionally.

In any case, though, this markdown system can result in penalties that are totally inappropriate to my overall performance. I am routinely conscientious, on every report doing what I am expected to do to produce proper reports. None of the don't-care sloppiness often seen. No not bothering to insert a heading because none was dictated, running the PE into labs as a block, and dozens of other ways to spit on quality. I'm one of those who pull the average up out of the trough.

Like always doing what I can to make sure the data are correct.
Verifying questionable statements in reports on file (this account has a lot of reports on line to check through).
Filling in all the blanks I can even though I'm always way below the % to QA allowed and don't have to worry about that (I know my job).
Knowing and respecting clients' specs.
Bending over backwards on punctuation to make sure the meaning is exactly what the dictator intends.
And still managing not to over edit and to rack up good line counts.

I do a VERY good job on a difficult account others don't want to work because the sound quality is poor and it requires a lot of editing, and the only feedback I get is risking losing a large part of my income over the accumulation of stuff like missing a missing period in a medication list, dropping a quick comma before instead of after the word intended, being marked off for an auto-numbering format error (not mine) that's not even visible on the screen, or, especially, being informed I'm wrong about a word the dictator himself couldn't make out--except that I know it's what he says, where he says it, and means what he means it to say.
Most other companies score QA differently - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked in QA in several other companies and am an MT at Nuance. One huge unfair thing is if you send a really difficult repot with lots of blanks to QA, they actualy score that report. I have been destroyed on my QA score with those reports.

I have NEVER worked for another company that did that. If you sent a report to QA to be reviewed due to difficult dictator and lots of blanks it was NEVER counted towards your QA score.

I, too, am an MT at Nuance since they bought out the small company I was working for and what you're saying isn't true. They do not score the reports sent to QA (no matter how many blanks it has). As long as you have marked ALL the things you can't figure out with a blank, they do not count against your score. I have had to send in quite a few jobs with multiple blanks and never had any report scored that went to QA unless I missed a mistake and didn't have it blanked! It does, however, run up the total percentage you have sent to QA.

And it still doesn't count towards your QA score. Sorry...also, anon, maybe you should proofread your posts or try a little thing called Spellcheck! ;D

How Often is Incentive Pay Given? - nuancemt

[ In Reply To ..]
How often do they give out the incentive pay? I just checked Fiesa and I don't have any post-audit reports, just pending. Is it given every pay period?

Yes, every pay period. sm - anon

Look at the bottom of your time card when you approve it. It will have your QA score and how much bonus will be.

I'm So Discouraged
Oct 22, 2009

In the last month, i've had nothing but in-audible dictation to one degree or another.  Either ESL, plus background noise, bad audio/file, extremely fast talking, in-depth and complicated procedures with at least two corrections on each sentence.  Also running out of work at the beginning of the shift.  It just seems very hopeless and I worry about my finances all the time, and my health.  Just wanted to vent some, I just can't believe how awful its become here, I a ...

I Just Am So Discouraged.
Dec 28, 2009

I just had to send a report with 67...yes.. that's right, 67 QA markers.  I've been with this company since 2002, and never have I had such a difficult time with dictators.  I could make out about every 10th word or so.  To the poor soul who has to correct this report.. I am just so sorry.  I believe the most I've ever sent in after all these years was 19, and I thought I'd die when that happened.  I'm ready just to quit.... I don't make an ...

I'm so discouraged.  I just started and I'm not used to SR.  I'm not even close to what I need to get for line counts.  I only have done straight transcription in the past.  At this point, I want to throw in the towel, but it has been less than a week.  I totally dread going to work and I have NEVER felt that way with my other MT jobs.  Sorry for the depressing message, I'm just so lost.  And - I'm sure anyone that is used to SR would l ...

Getting So Discouraged....

I've been looking for a way out for over a year. Unemployed currently. Have applied to a multitude of jobs in my area.  No luck.  So I thought about pharm tech school.  Went to the school to register, class is full til next Jan.  So I'm back to searching MT jobs again, hating it, knowing the slave wage I will be offered.  Used to be in the past, if I applied for 5 jobs, I would get at least 4 responses and was able to pick and choose which company I wanted to ...

I was recently laid off as the account I was working on went to India.  I desperately need to be working as I have 2 kids to support.  I was offered a job at 0.03 a line editing.  I am debating whether I should accept this as it falls under the heading of  a job is better than no job and waitiing in the employment office really sucks and unemployment only pays $300 a week and this has to be more than that, right?  So my question is, do I take thiis and if so what kind of ...

New MT...feeling Very Discouraged
Sep 29, 2010

Hi, I have recently graduated from an MT program and have been spending a lot of time on this forum. It has made me think that I may have made a huge mistake. I understand that times are hard, but does anyone have any good advice? I just have been getting discouraged so much lately. I have two young children and want to be able to stay home and help my husband to take care of our family. He already works two jobs as it is (in the health care field) and we just want to get ahead. Did I make a mis ...

Anyone else losing self-respect because they continue to stay working for a company they have little respect for any more? And for the lurking corporate suits out there, I would like to ask you your opinions on why YOU think people continue to work for the company after multiple pay cuts and almost impossibly high quotas to achieve? Do you think we have some kind of blind loyalty to the company that would compel us to even work for free?  Do you think we speak in loving tones when referenci ...

Very Discouraged About Job Situation.
Jan 26, 2012

I have been in business for 30 years and I have never seen things this bad. I am currently out of work, after having steady work for the last 5 or 6 years. This is new for me and after applying for several companies and no response, I am very discouraged. The companies say they are bogged down with applications and not able to reply to everyone. I feel for all you out there who are out of work now. God help us all. I guess all we can do is pray for a miracle at this point. ...

Feel So Discouraged-sm
May 15, 2012

I just started with a new company. I've only been working a few weeks.  I feel lost.  No training to speak of on their software.  They often do not answer e-mails and on top of that they send e-mails every week threatening that if you do not do more, do it better, faster, etc. you will be out of a job.  Wow.....nice!  I am working hard and I do adhere to my committed hours and turn in quality work.  I don't know what else I can do.  I don't under ...

Feeling Very Discouraged
Aug 14, 2012

Good morning, everyone. I know a few of you followed the last couple times I posted about how I had gotten a new job with a reputable company and they would not let me off full QA and how I was getting only three reports a day. I then posted the news was better on Friday because I was let off QA and given two more accounts. This morning I am feeling pretty low. I now have a total of four accounts and no work in any of them. I was hired as an IC and told I would have steady work and that I ...

So Discouraged Fiesa
Aug 17, 2013

I don't usually post on here but I am so discouraged with the Fiesa major/critical errors - is anyone else getting them because they say you left a word out?  I listen SO HARD anymore (I even went and had a hearing test and Dr. check last week and my hearing is fine) to hear everything and yet apparently I'm not hearing everything.  I am in tears most of the time now. Sorry, I just wondered if anyone else has noticed an increase in this type of error lately.  Thanks ...

Overwhelmed, Scared, Discouraged
Jun 11, 2010

I just went through training with a new company. They seem like very nice people. But I feel so overwhelmed with everything that we went through in training, in a way I've never felt before. I feel unprepared to do my job on my start date. (Thankfully, it's not today). I feel like I can log in, and that's it. My trainer just blazed through everything as if I knew what she was talking about, as if I had done it all before. Like I said, she was super, super nice. But I feel lik ...

MT Training - Depressed, Discouraged
Aug 28, 2010

I graduated back in May of this year, from the MT program at a local two-year college. The program was a one-year program, but due to the way the required courses were scheduled, it took two years of attending full-time to finish it. I'm starting to wish I had discovered MTStars before I enrolled in the program; if I had known then what I know now about the MT field, it would have saved me almost $10,000 in tuition for training that feels worthless now! As I read postings by experienced ...

Discouraged That QA Is Taking All The Good Work
Jun 26, 2014

While I sit here with the boring run-of-the-mill work. I know they are allowed to do this, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I don't blame them. I blame the powers that be who decided that was okay. I'm bored out of my mind. I really am. Maybe I should send some more work their way so I can get some decent work that won't put me to sleep. No, probably not a good idea. When I was working as a QA, I sure didn't do that. Just a vent. ...

Discouraged...are There Legit Good Companies Out There
Jan 13, 2015

I'm certainly getting discouraged by reading more and more on this board.  I used to work for MModal when it was Medquist and they seem just as bad on here.  TTS has bad reviews.  Seriously other than working at an office, which simply isn't feasible for me, are there any reputable, legit companies out there?  I went to the job seeker's board, but it seems it's all FT, or Nuance/TTS/MModal.  Glad I kept my other job, but I had wanted a little extra i ...

Audits/qa
Dec 03, 2009

Can somebody tell me what this audit/QA procedure is now?  I'm so confused with when they are done, how many reports are done, etc., etc.  I had been told earlier that 5 reports would be randomly pulled monthly and checked.  You would be notified you had been audited and the results.  If you passed, another 5 would be done the next month and so on.  If you didn't pass the audit, then a redo audit within 7-14 days would be done on another 5 random reports.  ...

I don't understand how auditing works.  Two of my reports were reviewed, and in each case, a word I had puit in had a line through it, but then it was replaced with the same exact word!  For that, I got marked off, getting only 99.50% or 99.75%.  I wish there was a way we could give direct feedback to the auditors at the time we're viewing our reports. ...

QA Audits
Mar 18, 2015

:(   I have tried to give the QA program the benefit of the doubt, thinking it was being done fairly, rewarding us for near perfect QA scores.  I have managed to keep my QA score above 99% every week until last week.  Before last week, I normally have 8 to 11 reports pulled for audit, some short, some long.  Last week I had 1 critical, 1 major, and 2 minor mistakes which dropped me down to no bonus pay.  Not faulting anyone for that, totally my mistakes, legitimate errors.  But....once th ...

Anyone Been On PM Lately Over Audits?
Apr 03, 2015

I have only had 3 audits in 2-1/2 years. Even though I received notice of scores of 99.6 or 99.7, I did not receive any account of what my mistakes were to produce those scores. A comma? A hyphen? Not sure. They should let us know in case we keep doing it, and that could cause us to fail an audit in the future. Just think, a comma, a hyphen, Patient instead of The patient, his elbow instead of the elbow, etc. could actually cost you your job, your income, and your whole way of life. Sca ...

QC Audits I Never Knew About
Oct 14, 2009

Okay, I may be the last one to know this, but I thought the only QC audits I was getting were the ones showing up on the DQM QA Feedback screen where it says (1 unread) or (how many ever unread). When you click on them, if the report has been audited by your QC, it will have a percentage score.  But that's just for the reports you sent in with a blank. To see the ones randomly selected and audited, you have to use the QA Feedback Search feature and put in a date range. For example, I j ...
