I just had to send a report with 67...yes.. that's right, 67 QA markers. I've been with this company since 2002, and never have I had such a difficult time with dictators. I could make out about every 10th word or so. To the poor soul who has to correct this report.. I am just so sorry. I believe the most I've ever sent in after all these years was 19, and I thought I'd die when that happened.

I'm ready just to quit.... I don't make any money, anyway...not anymore.

It happens to the best of us. You can't get blood out of a stone. Sometimes you just can't help it, you can't hear what you can't hear!! Far better to leave blanks than guess. If you've been with MQ since 2002, you're earned your stripes and you're no dummy. Don't beat yourself up over this, really!

We've all had those reports...or days...when we've felt trampled on and beat down. I personally have been having nothing but crap dictators all day today and I'm not sure that I've had even 1 report go through without any blanks yet today.

It upsets me to a certain extent, but then again, I am not a miracle worker. If I can't hear it or understand it, I leave a blank and try to let it go. I have had reports go through with far too many blanks in them, but what else can I do?

Until the Q decides to give us better audio quality and/or the dictators start dictating properly, we can only do so much.

I know it's hard to do sometimes, but keep your chin up and know that you are not alone in your feelings!

Yeah.. I guess so. I just stopped working after that one and turned on The Comedy Channel to listen to some stand-up...

What I need is a pain pill the size of one those sweet-n-sour huge candies.. neck is killing me, pain runs down my right shoulder blade, then into right arm... .lost my insurance with the "Q" because I couldn't keep up because of health reasons... makes sense to me.. lol.. I'm just full of it today..just not sure what "it" is.

Gotta get back to it. For some reason, this stupid hospital holds their work for days and then sends it in all at once. Then.. it's almost out of TAT; the dictators are really bad; the sound quality also sucks...sorry... I know.. it'll get worse.. LOL...

I had a report last week with 40+ QA markers. It's not us - it's those mush-mouthed @!%$# dictators! Sound quality not so great at times, too. Hang in there. I try to just get through the report as fast as possible and hope I don't end up in tears, then relisten to blanks and just move on - that's all we can do. We CANNOT perform miracles with the garbage we are given. Keep your chin up! :)

Here's what I do when I get a dictator that I just can't make heads or tails of. If I cannot get through an entire paragraph/heading without leaving less than 2 markers, I just abandon the job. I'd rather do that and hope the next one is better, than spend time on an obvious horrid dictator.

I know they keep track of the reports we abandon and break, but they also track the QA submissions. So, it's really a lose-lose situation as far as I'm concerned for us MTs. I'd rather try to get my lines in rather than waste time trying to figure out some mush-mouthed, crap dictator.

If you can't get it, then probably no one else - will be able to either.

So why not be a team player and just wade through it and do it ? I have spent entire shifts on nothing but "horrid dictators" probably thanks to MTs like you who want to just skim of the good ones and leave the crap to other people. With any luck you will get performance managed for abandoning jobs.

I've never heard anyone use the term cherry-picking reports before.

I guess I'm a cherry picker too, because I've done both breaks and abdandons in the past. I was told to do it in my training to avoid wasting otherwise productive time. I guess the trainer never heard of the cherry-picking term either.

I would like to take hat off to all those MTs who have never done a break or abandon, and would never do it no matter what. You are a true trooper in every sense of the word. More power to you.

Furthermore, you're welcome for all the crap jobs I must have sent your way over these years. I mean, everyone knows the crap jobs only come from all the cherry-picking that happens in this company. What else could be the source of it?

I just have to put my two cents worth in about cherry picking It is a common and well-known problem in the transcription industry. I've been in the industry for 18 years, so I know. Some companies deal with it, some stick their heads in the sand. Cherry picking is like pooping on your fellow employees. Do you cherry pickers think the dictation is just going into la-la land never to be seen again? Someone is going to have to pick up that job you abandoned and transcribe it. Anyone worth their salt as a true transcriptionist does not cherry pick and leave the crap for others to do. It is selfish and so unprofessional. You would dig our heels in and take on the challenge and become a better transcriptionist for it.

Not being mean either, but I get crap dictators on a daily basis too.

However, I'm not beyond breaking or abandoning a job that has me at my wits end and is affecting my line count.

Just because I can't figure out the dictator doesn't automatically mean the next person in line won't be able to either. I've completed many reports that were sent my way in that manner without any problems, so I know it can be done very easily at times.

bashing the poster for the "cherry-picking" thing has ever done an abandon or break on a job before? Not one person has done it ever? I really find that very hard to believe. We've all done it at one time. Maybe during training. Maybe while sick or really tired. Maybe because we just didn't want to put in the effort.

Crap jobs are here all the time. We all get them. We all do them.

Don't bash somebody for being honest in stating they break/abandon jobs.

No, I don't do it. I was trained not to unless it was the end of a work day because they did not want us working overtime and if you had 15 minutes to go with an extremely long report coming up next, they wanted you to pick something that would get you out of there on time. It was considered a vile offense no matter where I worked. I didn't like it being done to me and believe me, offenders got caught. Besides, say you break a document because you have a crappy dictator - who's to say the next one isn't going to be worse and it's a 45 minute dictation? Karma, baby.

no one wants to admit it. I find it impossible to believe that all those folks constantly crying and moaning about poor line counts and crap dictators, have never once done a break/abandon on any job.

How about those folks constantly getting NJA? Don't you think they'd want to get any job over nothing at all? Nothing means no money. At least something will pay a bit.

What about the MMEs? Do you think they'd rather get the crap reports sent to them because the MT refused to break the job and just sent it in with 40-50 blanks for them to try an figure out? MMEs are our fellow employees too.

Why not let another MT have a go at trying to make a complete report out of the crappy dictation?

Why do you think MQ allows a specific number of these to be done? They know that you will at some point have to break or abandon a job you get.

You are not dumping anything on anybody by doing it. You are simply implementing one of the tools that MQ has given you to use as an MT.

Continue to blame the crap dictation on those who break reports, but take into consideration everybody in the loop of the report and not just the MT.

We were told never to abandon a job by our CCM. If we do, we are to call her right away - and she does answer the phone. (I'm lucky enough to have a good one.)

always try to just break a job. At least this way you will get some credit for the lines you've managed to do.
Abandon only as a last option but no need to notify CCM.

I always make note of any jobs I've done this on. That way if I'm ever asked about them, I know why I did it. Also, I have an accurate number of how many jobs I've done a break/abandon on.

I was given strict instructions in my training as to what those functions are for, and they are NOT to just get rid of a job that you don't want to do.

I wouldn't have wished that report on my worst enemy, so I did muddle through as best I could. I just checked my feedback, and the report isn't there. I wonder if someone is STILL trying to work on it or if it was sent back to the hospital. I can't imagine how anyone could understand what he was saying. I figured it would be there by now, but it isn't.

It's maybe once in a blue moon that I get so disgusted that I abandon a job. I have had to break a job when an emergency arose, and I couldn't finish the job, but that rarely happens.

I wish I had thought to write down the job number and check with my supervisor about it. I'll keep checking throughout the day to see what corrections, if any, were accomplished.

I'm certainly getting discouraged by reading more and more on this board. I used to work for MModal when it was Medquist and they seem just as bad on here. TTS has bad reviews.
